Help with Stepmania:
Q: What the hell do I need to play these files? A: Stepmania! Go to this page, and download the appropriate version of Stepmania for your platform. - Windows: Stepmania 3.9 final. DO NOT use versions 3.0 or 4.0. Some stuff is incompatible. If SM doesn't work, post here, I guess, and I'll try to help you out. The Windows version come with the Max skin as its default. But there are plenty of really kick-ass original themes: I'll post my favorites somewhere in this thread. - Linux and Mac: They're there, but I've never used them. Read the readme file, and if something still doesn't work or you have any questions go to the SM forum. Read the existing topics to see if your issue has been covered. Setting up: Read the FAQs and Tutorials, and read the readme file! After that: First of all, as with any new game you buy/download, go set up the options first. The options are pretty self explanatory. The ones you should definitely check/change are the graphics options (640 resolution is perfectly fine; don't change it unless you have a kickass video card, since movies are going to be playing in the background. The difference between 640 and 1280 in Stepmania is basically negligible. They're arrows!) You might also consider turning off "Marvelous timing" under the Gameplay Options: this adds another evaluation (on top of Perfect, Great, Good, Boo, miss). Whether or not you turn it off depends on how old-school you are, most likely. File/directory structure: Your Songs folder should look like this (ignore the Extras folders. I'm stilltoo lazy to get an updated picture): (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/sanchny/HP%20SM/SMfolder.jpg) Lyrics There are multiple lyrics included for kana and kanji. Much wub to Mink and Hana for letting me use projecthello as a resource. I'll post instructions later on getting kanji to show up. If Stepmania doesn't work: post here first. Other solutions: - try an earlier version? There'll be a lot of incompatibilities, though, and 3.9 final is the best version there is. - try DWI? DWI is another simulator. It doesn't have as many features as SM, doesn't look like the real DDR as much as SM does, and hasn't been updated in almost 4 years (and likely will never be updated), but it's still an option if Stepmania won't work at all. The music and steps work on it, which is the most important thing (movies also work on it). Japanese characters do not work on it, so the song select screen is all in Romaji and the kana lyrics are useless. The banners don't work on it. You also have to set up the folder banner and the extra stages differently: if anyone wants to know how to do this in DWI, post here and I'll tell ya. - ask for help in the SM forum. Make sure you post in the appropriate thread, read the rules, and don't post anything stupid in general. I think that covers everything (IMG:http://forum.mm-bbs.net/style_emoticons/megamix_light/tongue.png) . I'll probably edit in more information later, if anything should come up. Feel free to ask any more question, and they'll get posted here. |

Was it just by chance that the screenshot with Makoto is failing the song on light?
I deleted stepmania a while ago, but I think I'll dl it again and check the new stuff out. Thanks. -------------------- ![]() QUOTE (Loop) The pleasures of unwilling flesh |

This is super awesome, thanks for uploading these and updating them (even though I honestly couldn't tell they weren't perfect the first time (IMG:http://forum.mm-bbs.net/style_emoticons/megamix_light/lol.png) ). (IMG:http://forum.mm-bbs.net/style_emoticons/megamix_light/nekowota.gif)
This stuff takes me back, man... I should really do some fanmixes again when I'm not so busy. -------------------- ![]() |

Stepmania looks pretty cool (especially the part where you can have your own music), but how do you play ddr on the pc?

You can buy a pad for the computer or use the keyboard arrows.
The pads for the computer aren't too cheap but if you enjoy it enough it's worth it. -Falcon |

Haha, I remember when these first came out I converted a couple of people to H!P-dom. Add arrows and all of a sudden it's (the music) fun, not weird? Hahaha. I need to get a USB converter so I can play. It won't be the same without the big screen, but at least it's music I like. Arrow keys ftl!

PS2 pad and a PS2->USB connector = lag more often than not, if it works at all in the first place, since only certain converters are made to emulate the d-pad instead of the analog sticks by default. But I guess that depends on how much you care. -------------------- |

Well, my converter was cheaper than a PC pad and it doesn't lag at all as far as I can tell :) You just have to press a button combo to put it on dance pad mode. -------------------- ![]() |

Even if mine did lag (which it doesn't), Stepmania has a delay feature to compensate for that.

^ Thank you! But when you say "links" do you mean the numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) under the different songs? 'Cause all I get when I click on those is a picture of arrows (steps?). =/

Sorry I'm being a pain, but I see no banner. Do you mean in sadude's first post? Because I see no images at all. (IMG:http://forum.mm-bbs.net/style_emoticons/megamix_light/unsure.png)

Images aren't disabled in my board settings. But it's happened at other places before and that's probably my dad's fault- he likes to put all sorts of controls on my computer.
Thank you for the links! I'm all good now, sorry. *promises* -------------------- ![]() |

My favorite theme at the moment has to be the DDRSupernova theme which you can find here on Rapidshare. Works perfectly with Stepmania 3.9 (doesn't work with version 4).
