I've had a few minutes to process this news and consider the pros and cons of such a radical move, and I can consolidate my findings into one sentence.
 
This is fucking stupid.

Good appearance.  I started to cringe when Erina started doing her magic trick, but they played it well.  Then she completely redeemed herself with her answer to that question about Miki's parents.
 
Off topic, but is there a reason why Okamura is in that costume?  Is that a regular thing on this now?

At first I was kind of pissed off when I found out they didn't make it, but now I see it as something that will continue to motivate the girls to strive for Kouhaku.  Not that they'd start slacking off if they were invited this year.   Plus, as a Dodger fan I already have a built in coping mechanism...

Probably, but it wouldn't be the same.  The stream would be live, which is 08:00 here, whereas the Japanese channel would show it at midnight on New Years morning.

I wish I still got that crappy Japanese channel in Los Angeles so I could watch them perform the Attack on Titan theme.

I saw The Wind Rises last week.  Going into the movie, I didn't think I would care much about the fact that this guy designed a killing machine, but throughout the movie the only thing I could think about was how this guy would go on to design a killing machine.  They did try to show him as a dreame...

She reminds me of Aina with that haircut.   And I don't know exactly how to put this, but I don't really "buy" her image in that DVD.  I'm so used to seeing her act dorky and energetic, this sweet image seems so foreign.  Personally, I'd rather see a DVD of her trying to buy some magic bea...

I just had a (somewhat...) similar shipping issue with CDJapan. I was going to pre-order Brainstorming/Kimi Sae along with two other CDs, and at the time Brainstorming still had the first press posters available, so the shipping would've been ~3000 yen with FedEx. I didn't want the poster that much ...

So...there's like, a 0% chance that she doesn't know what this means, right?
