Kikkawa Yuu - Hapirapi ~Sunrise~

Today a teaser for Kikka's 2nd single Hapirapi ~Sunrise~ came out.

A release date has also been decided, 9/21.



I like it! It's cute and happy sounding~ I love her higher voice, but I bet some people are going to be like "Where is my deep voiced Yuu? D:<"

We should get a full concert rip sometime soon from the H!P Summer concert, where she is singing her new song as the OP act, just like at the winter concert.



This song is also going to be used as Nihon Terebi's new theme song. Hopefully Kikka will be able to gain some new fans from this!



On a side note I just realized Kikka looks a lot like Aragaki Yui.

She showed so much more potential than Manoeri with Fuyuzora Hanabi and Candy Pop but. They keep giving her Manoeri styled songs. She's basically Manoeri with vibrato at this point.

Candy Pop too was pretty deep to me.

Her higher voice is like her Cobeni voice for KiraRevo.

I always was under the impression that her voice was not extremely high, but somewhat "middle" (whatever the fuck that is in bariton-language) and a liiitle bit rough.

That's overstating it a bit. Her song is the theme to Nihon TV's Shiodome Fair. They like getting idols to perform at this summer-long fair so perhaps she'll also get some performances too.

Of course I can't talk for Saya, but I think it's extremely redundant to call her "You" instead of "Yuu", judging why they changed her second name.

I dunno, I'd say her voice is not cutesy, but I would not say it's low - just kind of normal?



B-sides are great and all, but no one in the general public gives a shit about the b side. The a-side is what makes the general public buy your single. The a-side is what gets a video, the a-side is what gets performed on TV. With songs like this, she's not going to make an impression on the general public in the least. As far as the general public knows, none of her great b-sides even exist. Songs like this are a dime a dozen.



I don't care when the H!P kids or Morning Musume put out a generic song because I don't feel like they have any potential as far as being chart toppers. I know that those days are over for most of H!P - hell, there really aren't any popular female idols other than AKB48 and Shojo Jidai right now. If you aren't Korean or flashing your panties while singing graduation songs, people aren't going to buy your single. There's more wiggle room for soloists, though, and to be honest, I think Yuu has the potential to be more than just an unknown, run-of-the-mill idol. Hell, I think that with a little more vocal training and better songs, she could more of a singer than an idol (much like Maki, Aya, and even Nacchi). I know success =/= quality, but damn. I've been rooting for this girl since her very first audition - I would really like to see her "make it", as they say.



TL;DR = Waah, waah, H!P sucks now, needs moar golden era, etc, etc, baaaah, moar sells plox. Call the wahmbulance.



P.S. I'm a huge AKB48 fan, so don't think I'm hating on them up there :P I love 'em but I have to poke fun at their pandering sometimes.

This about sums up how I feel too. Yuu has the potential to really make it outside of the idol niche market given the right material, so generic idol song exhibit B as her new A-side is depressing from that standpoint. Of course we'll most likely continue to get amazing B-sides, but I too want Yuu to do more than just put out amazing B-sides, and actually use those songs to propel her to where she deserves to be in a more mainstream light.

And not that I understand the business of handling music promotions and such, but it eludes me as to why Fuyuzora Hanabi didn't get snatched up as an anime/game/etc. tie-in. It's practically begging to be the opening song to some shounen show. It's one of the extremely, terribly rare cases of "typical" anything (in this case, "typical anime song") that's probably done just as well as the songs back in the day that started that trend. (I still remember Ayumi Hamasaki's "Depend On You" as one of the best typical anime tie-in songs even though it was technically for a PS1 game.) So that being said, I think Yuu's got that little extra something that, if pushed in the right direction, could really take her to the top.

Japanese fan blogs say that she says "Hapi Rapi" stands for "Happi Rappingu" (Happy Wrapping) and is supposed to mean "wrapped up in happiness."

Full PV is out :). It's on dailymotion though. This is actually my first time hearing the song cause I don't bother listening to previews or anything but aside from it being generic I love love love her voice at the 3:25 mark <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wub:' /> and then it gets boring again. Whoa, I missed a whole bunch of activity in this thread. I actually like the PV and the song, both are really cute. Even though she overdoes the lipsynching a bit, she comes off as really genuine. She looks like she's having a really good time. She also does a lot less of the typical H!P faces and poses that are always forced in their PVs - the pouting, holding up one finger, puffing up the cheeks, etc. It's kind of refreshing.



The only problem I have with this song and PV is that it should have come out in the summer. Japan is so very seasonally influenced. On September 1st, people instantly start wearing fall clothes even though it's still 30 degrees outside, and all the seasonal foods, decor, etc. changes pretty rapidly. This song about sunshine and her cute summer outfits she wears while walking among green summer leaves feel out of place already, and the official release isn't until October 5th =/



Anyway, full preview is out for Sweetie which is the c/w for Limited D. I think it's pretty awesome. While I haven't outright disliked any of her singles (I enjoy both) she seems to be on a trend of getting way more awesome b-sides. It's a shame, since b-sides tend to go unnoticed.
