Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Hm, this is true. Maybe idols and actresses are encouraged to keep a waifish figure to give off a less sexy, less threatening vibe? I 'unno.
I've met quite a few girls who moved to my city in high school from Korea, and they just constantly put themselves down. I met one girl who was unsatisfied with her skin color (she wasn't dark, but she told me she wanted to be less yellow and more white) and one who was tiny but wanted to be thinner because of the idols she'd seen. There's really a huge emphasis on perfection, and while some of it probably comes from the family, I think the media, like in most countries, is the biggest culprit.
Yep, I hear this kind of stuff from most of my Asian friends - Japanese, Chinese, Korean. In general teenage girls are obsessed with being perfect, but sadly the east Asian concept of perfect is even more narrow than the Western concept, in my experience :( Though Korea seems to be especially extreme - I mean, there's a reason most Korean actresses look nearly indistinguishable - there's almost only one "look" that's accepted! Small face, big eyes, high nose bridge, pale skin. Of course, in Japan, the same look is preferred, but you see a lot more variation. Makes me think of how my mom is so dark skinned and always talks about how jealous she is of my sheet white skin @_@ I would rather have her healthy tone than look like a vampire. The grass is always greener, I suppose.

The Korean definition of weight gain is maddening, to be honest. Korea is so... anti-curves! Like, of any kind, I don't mean curves as in 300-pounds curves. I mean tits and ass. It seems women are encouraged to remain waifish in body type - not just thin, but completely devoid of any feminine body shape. I mean, every once and a while you see a girl get props for her nice rack, but you mostly just see girls like Bom and Zinger getting shit for having an ass or for actually having thighs that aren't the same size as their calves. There is more variety in body type in Morning Musume alone than in Rainbow, T-ARA, and SNSD combined. I've never seen a girl in Kpop even get THICK, much less fat or chubby, but if she gets much over 45 kg, ohhh the back lash.
Hm, the korean racing models usually are very curvy though.
Maybe a mod can move our talk to the general K-Pop thread ?
The ideal body type in Korea is called the S-line:
But most idols don't actually have this kind of body, although they do have polls for best s-line and things like that. But they give names to everything, S-line, egg line, v-line, chocolate abs, honey legs, ect.

Yeah, but it's only an S line if you have a 22 inch waist or less =/ boobs and butt at a healthy weight = fat.

Here's the PV for Bad Girl
I'm kinda over SNSD though, I think they need to release something in Korea again because I'm not liking their Japanese stuff at all. I didn't even finish watching the PV.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
The girls themselves look good, but that's probably the only redeeming feature of the video. The choreography isn't catchy, appropriate, or otherwise interesting, and the greenscreened backgrounds just look lazy. For a group with their level of success, it boggles my mind that their videos have been so cheap and perfunctory since their debut. (ITNW had actual location shots!)

Yoona also looks exceptionally hot.

Someone should feed Sooyoung. Short shorts and a belly baring top are not very flattering on someone as thin as she is.
On another note, wtf is that choreo. And that green-screening. I'm sure they could have found a real warehouse.

Korean groups going to Japan are always a moneygrab ploy, but it was never this fucking blatant. Shame on you, SM fucksticks! They don't even look good anymore, it's bullshit! (Oh hi Mark.)
I swear I'm not gonna follow them anymore until they go back to Korea. This is just embarrassing. And yeah choreography????

Ugh, wtf is that video.
I personally really loved the choreography and outfits in their lip synced live performance of Bad Girl. The hip move at 1:24 and again at 3:25 (Seohyun! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />) looks hot and amazing. The music video just suffers from money-hungry over quality of any sort. (But Seohyun is always amazing to me. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />)

"Other entertainment labels are currently delaying comebacks and debuts in order to avoid direct competition. One representative said, “All the attention will be on SNSD anyway, so it’s useless to go head-to-head. On top of that, it’s an official album, so it’s likely that they will just sweep the charts.”
Pretty cocky statement, considering September already was shaping up to be a big month without them. And since none of these people will probably be moving their comebacks (except maybe BEG but they've been delaying for over half a year now):

They're postponing their next single and album.
The reason?
They're releasing an album in the U.S.
And I wish I was joking.
Some think it'll just be the Korean release, but I don't know, because any store that would even bother carrying it does so already regardless of whether it has an official release here or not.

I doubt they're going to have new songs just for their English album (like Mr. Taxi for the Japanese release)...

Wow... Talk about last minute. My niece likes SNSD, so if they released something in English she might actually buy it. And she knows little to nothing about Korean anything.
So anyway, can we talk about how awesome that album cover is? I think I'd buy it just for the cover, it's so pretty and busy in a good way. I'm a sucker for old fashioned stuffs.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
It has been revealed that SNSD has plans to delay their album release in Korea because they will also be releasing an album in the US.
SM Entertainment stated, “It has been decided that SNSD will release an album in the States in an attempt to market ‘The Boys‘ to the Korean and international audience simultaneously. The release dates are only tentative at this point and may change. We will announce detailed information as soon as things are finalized.”
According to an album sales website, SNSD’s new album was scheduled to be released on October 5th but it currently may be postponed.
This album is especially noteworthy, as Michael Jackson‘s very own producer Teddy Riley has written and composed an urban dance track for the girls.
With the possible delay of their album release, their scheduled October 7th comeback TV stage will most likely be postponed as well.
Sources: allkpop and XSportsNews via Nate
It's still vague as to whether the US release is in English or if they'll waste their time promoting it (hopefully SM learned their lesson with BoA). I'm kind of giggling at SNSD having an 'urban dance track' though because they're one of the last groups I can imagine doing something like that. Especially since urban dance is stuff like popping, locking and bboying and they've only got one person who can do any of that.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
I read on the first link's comments section that the SM statement is actually saying that they're pushing for SNSD's already-recorded album "The Boys" (or whatever the full album is called) to be released worldwide--including the US--not that the group's recording a whole new English album for exclusive US release/promotion/etc.
Of course, this was just one person in the LJ comments, so not sure how reliable that info is since I can't read a word of Korean myself.
