Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Wow, rude.
To be honest, though, SNSD would probably even be less successful in the U.S than WG would. I just can't see any group making it there, right now.
I still think the album is a waste of time. Stores that carry kpop carry the regular Korean releases and fans can get it off of iTunes. I can't imagine any big chain bothering to carry SNSD's album.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
I honestly don't think SNSD would be able to adopt the rookie mentality like WG did. Wonder Girls are actually getting closer and closer. They've toured with the Jonas Brothers, held a solo sold out tour, are currently working with well known American producers, were on Billboard's Monday Mashup, won the best mashup of the year with 65% of the vote, are working on their debut American film, AND are scheduled to released a full length English album in the first quarter of 2012.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
I don't think any "Number 1 group of [insert country here]" will ever be able to adopt a rookie mentality well enough to make it. They did that once and made it, so I think you'd have a hard time making them honestly do it again. They can TRY, but I doubt it'd be done well enough to actually make it in the US market that doesn't give two craps about non-English entertainment.

Not exactly. They're promoting in Korea with a mini album in November. Their American album is something separate.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
The only Korean group that I have any expectations of "making it" in the US is 2NE1, because they have music that fits better with American pop, hip hop, and electronica. I would say 4 people is probably the cutoff for American mainstream taking any group seriously at all, but even that may be too much. It's sad that our country is so diverse but has such a shittily specific taste in popular music. :/ Basically I wouldn't want snsd to come to America because they'd probably have to slut it up like mad to make it anywhere (ala pussycat dolls) unless they were going for a pure teenybopper age group like the Wonder Girls and that would annoy me to no end either way.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
I don't think 2ne1 will be taken seriously by Americans at all. If anything, they're going be a joke.
Anyway, The Boys album has been postponed indefinitely. I'd say the US release is definitely not just going to be a repackage of the Korean album.
Article here.
Girls' Generation Cancel Album Release
Girls' Generation have abruptly cancelled the planned Oct. 5 release of their third album "The Boys" after promotion already got into full swing.
Management agency SM Entertainment in a press release Sunday said the album has been "postponed" but when it will be released is now uncertain.
SM Entertainment said it originally made the album for a worldwide audience and is delaying the release because it needs "more time to think more about the marketing strategy that this worldwide album deserves."

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
2NE1 has a far better shot than SNSD, but I don't think they'd become wildly successful either. SNSD has no chance, in my view.
I wonder if SM actually made money from BoA's American ventures. It seems idiotic to continue to ram your head into the same wall and expect different results, and BoA was far more marketable in the US than SNSD would be. Either it went better for them than we all think, or they're just horrible at making business decisions.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Americans are automatically go "they all look the same" and they aren't entirely wrong, a third of the group does look the same. They're going to flop so hard.

I hate 2NE1 passionately, but I think they do have a chance in America, they would be the Asian equivalent of the Black Eyed Peas (insofar as Far East Movement isn't that thing already... Ok, maybe Asian + girly? ). They'd be goofy and fun, and that kind of party-hop stuff is popular right now, and doesn't have to be (what I would consider) good to be successful. Just look at LMFAO and Pitbull. I don't know if they're actually planning this though...
Other than that I agree with everybody else, I would be very surprised if SNSD became successful internationally. The only thing they have going for them is that they have at least 2 members who speak English properly, so they can at least communicate, but I don't think that's as important as they'd think it is. I don't even think it's the production of songs that's the problem--remember they've had songs produced by the Ke$ha guys. It just comes down to incompatible styles. A big, unified group like that, I just don't think it'll appeal, especially with the language barrier as well.
From a selfish perspective, SM Town is just really pissing me off, and this certainly doesn't help. I just don't understand how you can start promoting an album and then go "whoops, never mind...", that just doesn't add up to me.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
It'll be the second coming of Spice Girls (minus the crappy movie) if it's pulled off properly, but then just like that it'll disappear.
I have a feeling they are doing this just to undermine all the hard work JYP is trying to do to slowly integrate the Wonder Girls into American society for the non-asians so it doesn't look so odd to the average American that there are a bunch of Asian girls who I'm sure will all say are Chinese or Japanese and never Korean (Because that's how bigots role, and trust me I work with a WHOLE lot of them.), that can sing and dance and hold a tune and don't have a weird accent.
SM is banking on the fact that there are enough Korean Americans and listeners of Kpop to make a dent enough in the American market for the average American to take notice. It may or may not work, we'll see.

If they pull that much off, it'd be amazing, in my opinion. The Spice Girls were marketed ferociously as being EXTREMELY different personalities (SPORTY! POSH! G... Ginger? ┐('~`;)┌ ). By contrast, SNSD's biggest hit has been when they were dressed in uniforms. And there's 4 more of 'em! And then there's the language barrier, even with the 2 English-speaking members. Like I said, I'm not 100% sure that matters ALL that much, but it certainly doesn't help distinguish them if approximately 80% of them can't even communicate properly (that's assuming they're all as good at English as Sunny is).

And apparently the MV will have two versions. The Korea version and the US version.
So.
I wonder who will get screentime in the US version, and who will get shoved to the side.

SM are never going to throw about that black prop from the beginning. I think this is the 4th or 5th MV I've seen it in.
And now that I've heard the teaser instrumental, I wonder what the song will actually sound like.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Ugh, I hate teasers because they always sound so good, but I know they're gonna be 10x better than the actual song. :(
I disapprove of the US stuff for the same reasons as before (they're not going to make it here), but maybe Asia continuing relentlessly at this will actually move towards making a dent one day, and so it's all worthwhile in the end. To be honest though, I disapprove entirely of SME being the ones to make that dent because then the monopoly will be complete and absolute, and I'd hate to think how they'd work their artists if that day came. I'd rather another company that takes better care of its artists got the honor.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Here are some more teasers.
English. I really want to hear the whole thing NOW!
Also here is a 35 sec Preview of the english version.
Korean. Basically the same as the english one.
Here's the Instrumental.
O lord, I couldn't even understand what the first girl said after the talking part.
This is gonna be not so good. I hope they are working on their english.

They have to native speakers (Jessica and Tiffany) and the others' English isn't horrible either.
But the song sounds boring and generic from the preview anyway.

Personal opinion? Song sounds terrible so far, assuming this is the actual song. Who knows, since it's SME.
