Bolded are games I would rec in general; italic are games that I would only rec if you are fan of gameplay/genre. I expanded on Ap's post~
- 3D Dot Game heroes

- Brütal Legend - It's fun and the soundtrack is great too (if you like that genre of music)

- The Ninja Gaiden games -

- Dark Souls - simply because this game has a learning curve that most aren't willing to learn. Eh, I loved it and its prequel Demon Souls. (Wait, I'll go ahead and say that I played at my brother's place, and it seemed more of the same Demon Souls stuff, so I went ahead and said I loved it too lmao I should be a gaming journalist with comments like that)

- Valkyria Chronicles - For the love of God, this! The art direction is amazing and it's a nice update on the SRPG genre.

- LBP 2 - I find the LBP games to be too floaty on the jumps for my personal taste.

- MGS4 - lolcutscenes I actually didn't have much fun with this game

- Catherine - I had fun with this. It's a puzzle game with visual novel elements. If you don't like puzzle games I don't rec this though.

- maybe Enslaved (I can give impressions of this game later because I got it on sale recently)

- One of the Tekkens or Mortal Kombat - MK was the better game of those two (admittedly I hate the Tekken series), but if you like fighting games don't forget the SF or Marvel v Capcom either.

- Heavy Rain - It's a visual novel, so if those are your things... the storyline is a mishmash of mash though. Short too. If you're iffy on it I wouldn't pay more than 10$.

- inFamous - Only play the bad guy way because good guy is a horrible game and bad guy is fun.

- Nier - Hey, I liked it. Not a bad RPG at all.

- Resonance of Fate - And more people need to play this game! You have Jon Woo style gunfights! Customizable outfits! Customizable world energy thingies! Customizable weapons! The humor is humorous! It's the closest I'll ever get to another Shadow Hearts game ever again! Umm, it's an RPG though, so if those aren't your bag still play it.

I don't know if you have another gen system/PC, but if you don't I also rec the Assassin's Creed series, the Batman games, and

For PSN:

Dead Nation - It's a two player local co-op old school overhead killing zombies buying weapons OHYEAH fun

Fat Princess - I had loads and loads of fun with this game, so much so I got the PSP version too. It wins for BEST CREDITS EVER

Castle Crashers - 4 player local co-op FUN

Flower - pretty so pretty

I am probably one of the few local co-op fans left. I prefer trashtalking to your face and not some mic thankyouverymuch .

add me to your friends list~ I'm petitfraulein because melon was already taken bawwwl I also log onto the bf's account frequently to play games but I forgot his name hahaha (I really don't care about trophies so I don't care what account i play on)

I deliberately didn't mention either of those.

I absolutely HATE HATE HATE those things.

There aren't many games were I can say I have pure hatred for them, but in this case... OH BOY.

But I find all fighting games with 2D style absolutely disgusting and utter shit.

Yes, I very muchos realize this hatred makes absolutely no sense to you guys.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has a raccoon with machine guns and rocket launchers. Your argument is invalid.

I have to admit that I'm also among the minority that has a total disdain for Street Fighter. Not so much Marvel vs. Capcom, but definitely not a fan of Street Fighter. It's so damn clunky! My all-time favorite fighter is Dead or Alive, but since I can't get that I'll probably end up with Mortal Kombat or Marvel vs. Capcom.

Thanks for all the recommendations, guys. There's already a ton that I want to get! I honestly don't know where to start.

I'll add you ASAP, Petit. Once my collection grows we can become an unstoppable force in any games we play!

To add to the PS3 conversation, I will second the recommendations of the Uncharted series (if you like third person shooters), and Valkyria Chronicles (if you like strategy/RPG games and don't mind that it doesn't have trophy support).

My PSN is Zounder1002, though I am rarely on nowadays since I've been playing Skyward Sword. I will be playing the hell out of SSX once that comes out, though!

Don't have a PS3, but seconding Shadow of the Colossus / ICO Collection. I want a PS3 just to play that game.

You can also emulate them perfectly on PC (PAL version via PCSX2), if you just want to play them and don't have a PS2 either.
I have a PS2 and those games. I just want to replay them with better resolution and framerate.

I played the HD God of War collection on PS3 and it was pretty good. I got the ICO/Shadow collection, but haven't even had time to put it in with the retarded amount of new games that came out in the last couple of months, and then Skyrim and Old Republic subsequently eating up all my free time.

I'm playing Skyward Sword. I was about to hit the Forest Temple earlier today, but then I had to go to work. A few thoughts:

1. Link's face and his lack of dialogue remind me of Tony Jaa SO MUCH.

2. I'm glad Link is silent because it allows him to be a jackass. "I have determined it is an 85% probability you are a moron." In fact, it makes the obvious dialogue of the other people funnier because it's like, he don't give a shit.

(EDIT: Thanks for the spoiler tip AP)

^My only complaint about the game. Otherwise, it's been great. It keeps with the traditional Zelda style while still shaking things up and keeping it fresh.

Mid/Late game spoilers: How awesome was the pirate ship? :D

On another note, I bought Dungeon defenders from the steam sale. I have never really played any tower defense games before but this one seems really neat. My friend and I were having a blast getting destroyed by the last wave in level 2.

I WAS actually thinking about a Majora's Mask reference (you meant "final day" right ?), but I wasn't sure how to implement it into the title, so I went with Battle Royale.

I personally think OoT is the best game ever created and Alttp the best 2D game in existence.

But, MM was the last absolutely spectacular Zelda game.

WW had the annoying piece of shit fetch quest that just took on forever, but it was still quite fun and unique overall.

TP was probably the biggest disappointment of the decade since that game was so disgustingly formulaic and bland. Worst of all, it had only one memorable character, which was Midna. OoT, MM and WW had all several funny and memorable characters. But TP ? Not in the slightest.

As for Skyward Sword, I only played a few hours, so I won't pass final judgment yet. In fact, I can't even say if I like it, since I basically only had two play sessions so far. But it does look promising. It also has the most charming Zelda BY FAR.

I loved OoT, but it was such a straight-up standard RPG (magic, hack+slash, standard Zelda puzzles, save the world from a demonic despot) while MM was so ridiculously innovative with the time travel and masks systems that while even tons of people complained about these (and while there WERE some time travel elements in OoT but not definitive enough of the gameplay), the game was really unique and brought such ideas that you still seldom see in games today.

I loved the characters and environments in MM, too. There were some good characters in OoT, but I feel like you interact with them a whole lot more in MM through the sidequests. They seemed like they had lives and complexities about them, moreso than the sage-who-waits-around-until-you-do-something that OoT was so rife with. Again, another plus of the time system.

The environments were so saturated and bright, too, and it was fun to traverse them in all of the various ways that Link's forms (masks) provided rather than just warping and running about. (Anyone who says they don't daydream about Goron rolls is lying. )

WW was unique for its time, I just didn't enjoy it as much, and it was full of elements that universally suck.

TP was devoid of the interesting characters present in OoT let alone MM, but there were a few good characters apart from Midna. (And, the triumphant return of the postman who you can cause to fall off a cliff!)

OoT wasn't innovative in story aspects, but in a lot of technical aspects.

Z-triggering, item usage in 3D etc.

MM borrowed the whole system of course and that's because the devs then had time to do try out more gameplay and story things.

MM also borrowed several characters like the Lon Lon ranch people etc. and (vastly) expanded on them.

I personally see OoT and MM as a two-parter anyway. In the first they focused on the technological stuff and in the second they had the time to try out other stuff.

You can't really expect them to put all that into one game. ;)

The main/only downside for MM was that it only had four dungeons.
The only characters borrowed from OoT were Link (obviously), Skull Kid and, for a brief bit (and with an altered history timeline), Zelda.

The others were all cameos- not the same characters- and had their own individual storylines. For instance, Malon and Talon were daughter and father who lived with their lazy employee on a ranch that was taken over by the evil king. Malon and Cremia were two orphaned (I think?) sisters who lived on a ranch that was annually invaded by aliens. The OoT chicken lady was just that. Anju was a hotel manager and the fiance of the missing guy (who was completely unique to MM, not even a cameo). They were the same figures, but totally different people. For this reason some people speculate that Termina was a mirror universe to Hyrule, but it's unconfirmed as far as I'm aware.

The majority of the gameplay system came from OoT, yes, but the unique aspects of the story as well as the gameplay added onto an already great system for MM was what made it great. Hyrule was so basic looking, while Termina was filled with colour and interesting architectures. Link grew older and younger in OoT, but completely changed shape with the masks (and masks and masks) in MM allowing for four (five) distinctly different types of the same character with different controlls and gameplay and everything. Adult Link just had some different weapons (some of which were practically alternate versions of the ones he had as a kid) and was just, like, taller.

OoT was great, but I feel like they improved on both the story and the gameplay (and graphics a bit, too) from what was already awesome in OoT to make a harderbetterfasterstronger game, overall.

It doesn't get beter than the 64 games, though. Is Skyward Sword any good? Has anyone played it, yet?

I'll give my two cents on favorite Zelda titles:

LTTP is by far my favorite Zelda game, and one of my favorite games ever. I don't really have much to say other than everything about the game was fantastic. I also enjoyed the Oracle games and Link's Awakening. I guess I was a big fan of the 2D Zelda games.

Then OoT came out... and I just couldn't get into it. I know it's blasphemy to say, but I just didn't really like the game. Same went for MM. There was something about 3D Zelda that didn't work for me. That being said, I fully understand why people like the games, and they certainly are not bad games. Just not for me. WW was pretty fun, but I never actually finished it.

I wasn't expecting much out of TP, but I ended up loving it. I don't really know what exactly was different about this iteration of 3D Zelda that separated itself, but I liked it. I definitely understand certain gripes about the game, though. But for me, those flaws are overshadowed by some of the best Zelda moments ever: The boss fight with the spinner weapon, and the horseback fight near/on the bridge.

Skyward Sword, now that I've beaten it, I can safely say it's my second favorite Zelda game next to LTTP, and my favorite 3D Zelda game. It addresses the flaws of previous Zelda games and fixes them (for the most part) and puts a unique twist on the Zelda forluma without doing something drastically different. Yeah, the controls are a bit wonky, and there are some uninspired portions of gameplay, but pros outweigh the cons: A cast of compelling characters, a break from the standard Zelda formula, great boss fights (for the most part), new fun gameplay elements, and a great art style.

On another note, I've been playing Dungeon Defenders on steam, and it's so good. I have never really been into the tower defense genre but the RPG elements got me hooked.

I'm playing Corpse Party late at night and it creeps me out.

I've been playing Voltorb Flip in Pokemon Soul Silver. They took the Game Corner out (WTH?!!!) and made something that is apparently more acceptable for American children that has little-to-no risk in it.

Whatever. It's addicting, whatever it is.

Just finished playing Metal Gear Solid 4, and all I can say is HOLY SHIT.

It was amazing, especially the final act! It really was the perfect game, and a wonderful ending to an amazing story

ONLY criticism was a lengthy conversation at the end that could have been cut in half time-wise. It killed me

I am returning to Final Fantasy XIII now that I have a system that won't explode when I try to play it. I have almost reached the point where I had had to stop two years ago. It is going much faster because I skipped most of the early cut-scenes and since I don't remember everything, the rest still feels reasonably fresh and crispy.

And speaking of classic series that aren't cool anymore, Soul Calibur V comes out this week!Image

Doesn't Final Fantasy XIII-2 also come out this week?

And I'm on the fence about Soul Calibur since they took out my favorite character. Ezio looks pretty badass in it though.

I borrowed my brother's PS2 so I could try to beat Katamari Damacy again (for some reason, I couldn't beat it when I first bought it). Someone should have told me that game only takes six hours to finish. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> Now I have to decide whether I want to give We Love Katamari a chance.

The soundtrack is still as awesome as I remember, however!

Yes it does, but I'm trying to ignore it until I'm ready to play it.

Ace Attorney 5 announced today. I am going to be SO SAD if they don't localize this as well. I'm still pining for the second Edgeworth Investigations game. Damn you Capcom. DAMN YOU TO HELL. *shakes tiny ineffectual fist*

There's too much to reply to here, so I'll cut it short.

Soul Calibur 1 was the last good SC game.

Twilight Princess is the best Zelda game by leaps and bounds.

Final Fantasy 13 and 13-2 are both amazing.

Good night, and good luck.
