There's too much to reply to here, so I'll cut it short.

Soul Calibur 1 was the last good SC game.

Twilight Princess is the best Zelda game by leaps and bounds.

Final Fantasy 13 and 13-2 are both amazing.

Good night, and good luck.

Ewwwwwwwww.

You're so into bland games.

But they explained themselves.

Also, my comment was more of a sarcastic way of saying "I disagree with all three statements".

I'm a few hours into FF13-2, and it's pretty good. Not happy with them removing my favorite character from the game, despite fucking advertising it with her, but the time travel is cool.

Soul Calibur 5 looks and plays awesome, but I don't freaking get why they took out all the extras that used to fill the previous games, and removing individual character endings is just unforgivable, especially when half the characters are unknowns, and the other half have a 17 year gap in their lives.

I'm still on the fence when it comes to buying Final Fantasy XIII-2. I liked XIII, but I think that was mainly due to my bias for the series. This new one looks kinda cool, but I don't know if I'd be into it without a good story (I heard it was pretty lame).

Then again, I'm playing the Uncharted series and those are pretty cookie-cutter adventure stories (I'm only on the second title).

Yeah... Yet everyone thinks its the greatest series ever because PS3 has no exclusive games. Uncharted is just like 500 other games for other systems, but since its for PS3 they think its awesome and unique.

No, there is nothing else like Uncharted except the other Uncharted games. Despite its faults, there are no other games out that that can match its set pieces and the character writing. Unlike the God of War series, which has Xbox equivalents, there's no game that works as a direct comparison to Uncharted on the system.

I'm not getting involved in the Zelda convo because I could go on for about a day and a half about my favorite series. But I will just say right now I am playing Skyward Sword, OoT3D, Kirby: Return to Dreamland, and what is actually ruling my life is Fortune Street. Is anyone else playing this? I could kick myself for not picking up the DS one I saw every time I went to the used game store when I was in Japan because when I saw Mario and Slime together I immediately thought "bootleg" as I had never heard of the series before. Now it's like the only thing I want to do ever. o_O

Overview of what I've been playing the past ~1,5 months:

Even more BF3 - I'm at 89h 45min right now and I still enjoy it. Haven't played it as much as I "should" though, considering it's an online shooter and they tend to eat up several 100h of playing before I'm fed up with them.

Ever wanted to play Contra with cars ? Play Renegade Ops on hardcore. It's very entertaining.

Rochard is a pretty cool physics-puzzle-platformer. Not much else to say about it, except for the main character's voice is funny.

Since I've watched the absolutely amazingly funny Let's play of pokecapn and some other dudes of the horribly abysmal Sonic 2006, I've got somewhat interested in Sonic games. I always thought of them as clearly inferior to the Mario games, it seemed that the time has come to give this franchise a real chance, so I bought Sonic Generations. It blew me away, basically. It is so much fun and really great to play with a friend, just passing the controller and trying to S-rank stages.

I also enjoyed the 3~4 (out of 90) very frustrating challenge missions since they reminded me of the Let's Play. haha

...so I eneded up buying Sonic 4 Episode 1 and got two world records for the PC version shortly after. Eventhough I've been beaten I'm still at least in the Top 10 and happy about that. I like this game just for that reason.

I'm not yet sure what to think of Skyrim, eventhough I've played it for about 15h already. There are some GUI mods absolutely needed, since the standard interface is absolutely abysmal and utter bullshit. I have no fucking clue how Bethesda thought this was a step up from Oblivion, even for a console-port.

There are times when I'm intruiged by the world, but I've never felt the urge so far to just play 5~6 hours without stopping.

LA Noire. Oh LA Noire... what should I do with you ? You really annoy me when I don't think exactly the way the devs thought interrogating would make sense. Sometimes more than just one piece of evidence would be appropriate to pick as a "backup" to your allegations. But, if you don't pick exactly the one the devs thought of, you're out of luck and can't ask the same question again. SO ANNOYING.

Phelbs is a cool guy though.

I've played a huge amount of Binding of Isaac during my winter holidays. It is a very special type of game, similar to rogue-likes, but not exactly.

On my to-do list:

EYE - Divine Cybermancy

Saints Row 3

Costume Quest

Cave Story+

Maybe some Alpha Protocol if I finally can get over the tutorial and nothing about bugs me...

Super Meat Boy

MORE SANIC

The game I'm looking forward to is a freaking otome game. ehehehe... At least it's not an eroge? I'm playing Parasite Eve - The Third Birthday right now because the price finally dropped to $10. I'm glad I only paid that much for it. It's okay so far, though I didn't play the second game so I'm not sure if my confusion at what's happening is due to that or the retcons. Twisted are lame bosses. I preferred the monster designs of the first game that were more effed up looking stuff like out of Silent Hill. The overdrive skill is pretty fun, but it's kinda annoying to bounce back and forth between soldiers because if they die it counts against your score. On the plus side if a boss crits you then you can warp to a dude with full health. It's a very middle of the road game.

I wanted to get a Vita but they're not going to give you passes for PSP games. I wouldn't mind buying my very favorites again if the price was right, but it still sucks. I'm going to wait for my killer app to come out before I decide to get one. Since I'm pretty much an exclusive portable gamer now it would make me sad if I missed out on a generation. I'm not getting a 3DS. First I couldn't see the 3D effect, second the screen is a downgrade from DSI/XL, third no killer app for me unless they release the Ace Attorney games and then I will WEEP.

Pretty sure they already announced an Ace Attorney game for 3DS..

And the Vita is terrible, I posted a short review of my experience with it, after playing all the demos available, 2 full games, and experiencing all the functions, I've concluded that even if someone gave me the system for free, I'd just resell it immediately. Nothing on the upcoming games list is even remotely interesting, and if they just keep trying to pump out the same crappy Sony first-party franchises like they have, it'll only get worse. And now this thing with the UMD passport is ridiculous. The passport system sucked in Japan to begin with, since some games, even after the passport "discount" still cost over $30 to re-download, but in the US, you have to re-buy every game for full retail price regardless of whether you own the original UMD or not.

I also wonder how long it'll take hackers to free the system up so you can just download games. Maybe they never truly will, as 3DS still isn't unlocked, about a year after release.

Yeah, but AAI2 didn't make it over here, I haven't heard the Layton-AA game coming over, so my hopes for AA3DS are slim.

And when I checked my DS cases this morning, my copy of the 2nd game in the series is missing. WHY I don't know where to begin to look because I don't know when/where it would have disappeared to.

Just played through the Mass Effect 3 demo. Can't freakin' wait!

It's awesome to see the crew from the first game all back together. Also, the voice command feature is amazing. You can command your squad mates, hack doors, activate computers, etc. without ever touching a button.

Ahahaha! I had to replay that part three times before I could get it correct. The third time was due to me being dumb and pressing the wrong button and committed suicide. I'm stuck somewhere in Chapter 2. I keep walking everywhere and can't seem to trigger anything.

I started Chrono Cross but as I played through the introduction I realized I'm not fond of the game. I'm fond of its soundtrack.

Right now I'm playing Hakuoki, the otome game Aksys brought over. I have played many visual novels for it is one of my favorite genres. All of them were from a male perspective (aside from one but that's a technical because it's a twist at the end). Playing a game from a female perspective is weird. Nearly every game I've ever played is from a male perspective, and now to have a game that's pretty much the reverse of all of that is so odd. It's also weird in that there's fanservice for the girls, it makes me wonder if that's how the guys feel when they play games normally. In any case, it's still a good game whether you're a boy or girl if you enjoy visual novels. I'm still early in the story, so I can't say if it's like 999/AA in that everyone should play it even if they normally don't play the genre. (And those technically aren't entirely VNs like this)

Oh, and if Aksys doesn't bring over Extreme Escape Adventure: Good People Die (the sequel to 999) for the VITA I will be sad. I don't want to buy a 3DS and the models look nicer on the Vita! That is my killer app. I would buy a Vita for that game. While thinking of killer apps, I just realized we're in the last stages of the console generations, and there has not been a Matsuno game released that's not a re-release. This makes me very sad.

I played through Alan Wake again the other day, then played through the two DLC chapters to prepare for American Nightmare, which comes out today. I still love that game.

Also finished off the latest Jurassic Park game. The gameplay was nothing but shitty quick time events and there were tons of graphical problems, but the story, characters and voice acting were good so I enjoyed it overall.

I'm waiting for the Steam Summer Sale to get Alan Wake.

Maybe by then American Nightmare will also see a PC release.

Yeah, I'm quite disappointed what Telltale did with the Jurassic Park adventures. Which is a real shame, since I really liked their Monkey Island and BTTF games.

My friend and I played Civ V for awhile but we found finding time for 8 hour games was a little tough. I think the expansion seems pretty intriguing, though.

---

I bought Odin Sphere on a whim on PSN. What a great storytelling mechanic. The gameplay is a little shaky at times, between some questionable controls and some really obnoxious boss fights, but the story is one of the best I've seen from a video game. Everything from art style to the story itself to the voice acting (for the most part) were top notch. I think the main reason I liked the story so much was the unique way the story is presented: By playing through the timeline with 5 different characters, seeing things from 5 different perspectives, slowly finding answers while still developing new questions. There's even a menu that displays the entire timeline with each scene from each characters story, showing you where they fall in relation to what every other character was doing at that time, and lets you re-watch any scene you want. The story also felt... different than what I have grown accustomed to in a JRPG, but in a good way. Even though it's a JRPG, I felt the story was very non-JRPG-like, especially in its ending.

I completely understand why the game wasn't so popular, because the actual gameplay can turn some people off. It's a shame such a great story didn't get much publicity, though. I also wish more games would employ the same storytelling mechanic.

On another note... Is anybody going to be playing SSX on PS3? From what I hear, much of the experience comes in having friends who also play that you can compare times with and do that whole geotag thing, so if anybody else is gonna play it, let me know if I may add you as a friend.

EDIT: Speaking of games that need to be brought overseas, I too am incredibly sad that AAI2 will probably never see the light of day, and I'm not sure of Extreme Escape Adventure's 3DS status but I hope that makes it over too. But at least The Last Story was finally confirmed for US release!

Does that have the slowdown that was on the PS2 release? I would double dip if it didn't have the slowdown. I was getting frame-by-frame with it on boss fights

I only experienced massive slowdown during one boss fight. I can't quite remember which it was for sure, I believe it was one of the somewhat early King Odin fights, but not the first one. So I'm guessing it was the epilogue Mercedes fight. That would make sense since that fight happens on raging battlegrounds with all the sand kicking up. Now, I can't exactly compare it to the PS2 slowdown since I haven't played, but that fight lagged horribly. Otherwise, aside from the occasional slight slowdown when a bunch of things were happening, I noticed no issues.

Went over to a friend's house for drinks and a play-through of Heavy Rain. They took a lot of control in the game and we ended up with totally different end points from what I got in my play. The story is interesting without a doubt, but the details in the writing bring the work down. And for a game with pretty straight-forward controls, it's still kind of difficult for non-gamers, and that actually put some weight behind their mistakes and consequences. Still hate the shoe-horned romance. Still, it was an entire night's worth of entertainment and we enjoyed ragging on the plot holes, control problems, and sketchy, unbalanced voice-acting.

Heavy Rain is maybe a videogame The Room, but pretty and not absolutely terrible on all fronts?

Aww, I want to play Asura's Wrath too. I loved the demo, it was insane!

I finished 3 routes in Hakuoki. Of the three, I liked the first route I took more because the other two were rather lame. Saito>Chizama>Okita So far, including the fourth route I'm currently on and aside from the secret route, it's full of angsty schlock that ranges from guilty pleasure good to forehead smacking bad. And the lead is so useless. I sit there and think of how I could've made the narrative better as I play through. So, I guess I don't rec this if you don't like visual novels, but if you do, then buy a copy to support visual novels releasing stateside?
