Fuck every single bit of Aika hate. Why? She was completely inoffensive, so I can understand just being "meh" about her, but she didn't deserve one bit of the outright hatred she got.

And so what if she "never amounted to anything." People are forgetting how groups (or teams) work. A team can't be made up of all aces and star players. You need what are called "solid players," ones who never stand out, but consistently perform and help the group. You need the Kaoris, the Keis, the Konnos for the others to be able to do their thing.

Also, I don't think anyone even considers her role behind the scenes. Aika was very much one of the emotional cores of the group. When Linlin left and Ai was depressed, Aika was there for her and became her new BFF. When Eri left, she was there to support Sayu. Aika was also the one that brought about Reina's fairly recent attitude change whee she went from a total loner to an actual member of the group. Aika was the one that brought the tough love to show the new members the reality of their jobs, even when the older members were still doting on them. Just because Aika was never front and center on stage, she was still a damn important part of the group as a whole.

As much as I always felt "blah" about Aika, I am sad for her. If she could have recovered, she might have won me over. :/

She was never one of my favorites, but it always sucks to see someone's career end because of an injury. At least it sounds like they're keeping her in Hello Project, so hopefully she can still provide the background support and mentoring many of you are commending her for.

The other day I was gonna look for a thread where I could ask if Aika was ever coming back. Well, now that question has been answered.

After this graduation, there will only be two members left from the nine we met at AX in L.A. back in July 2009 (3 years ago!). I'm very saddened by that. Heck, I've never gotten over Koharu's departure. It's been hard for me to warm up to the new girls. To win me over, the creative types behind them will have to come up with some awesome new songs for them. So far, that hasn't happened.

This is depressing as hell. I love Aika and was eagerly waiting for her to have a big comeback with the 50th single. Maybe she could be a sort of MM staff member. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I also agree with this. Aika was the backbone of Morning Musume. She was the mother type character who was always the back-up support. Now that she's going away that role is going to have to fall onto someone else. She obviously loved Morning Musume or she wouldn't have stuck around with her broken foot. She would have said, screw this I'm leaving and jumped ship for an easy out. But she didn't. She honestly believed she could return and continue but her injury was just too severe. I think Sayumi, Mizuki and maybe Erina are the only ones with the type of love for the group that could fill that type of void. I always thought Mizuki seemed the type so I hope she fills that void that Aika is leaving.

Ok so I have no time to read all this right now but just from skimming I pose a question. WHAT IN THE WORLD DID AIKA EVER DO TO YOU PEOPLE???????? I am so upset she is leaving. If you have to graduate (which she doesn't want to) then it should be because its your time. Not cause of your foot. Which I asked my mom about having a stress fracture and she said they can get bad. One wrong move and you whole ankle will break. SO SO SO happy she will try and stay in H!P maybe she will be in DMM with Eri. Man I wish Aika didn't have to leave so soon. I was wanting her to be front girl before she left. Oh well... :(

Oh poor Aika <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Can't say I didn't see this coming.

It must be really hard on her trying so hard to get better and missing concerts and dancing in the music videos, and her foot does not want to seem to get better. But it's especially sad that she has to graduate because of medical reasons rather than her own personal decision.

I really liked her bubbly personality. I hope she'll do well after MM.

We'll miss you Aika ):

Foot? My Foot! That chick is pregnant!!

No wonder they didn't bother to give her a generation color for Renai Hunter. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /ph34r.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (I know, it's because of Risa's feature)

I hope that her mean old handler from AX is out of a job now. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Not that telling people "NO SMALL TALK" is a full time job.

...but being a bitch might be one

6th gen parents and 8 kids. Interesting.

Aika was kind of like the Bering Strait crossing, I think they would naturally throw in a few new girls to bridge the gap of ages. Perfect excuse for another audition, right? Maybe surprise some egg who was born before the mid 90s.

I guess they're gonna break out Watashi no Miryoku ni Kizukanai Donkan na Hito, Osaka Umainen & Otome no TIMING at concerts now.

-and then never do those awful songs again. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD.

So much potential in the 8th gen auditions and what did we get? One of the most useless members in the history of MM, though I guess I should thank Tsunku because AKB48 took what he didn't want. Anyways, YAY. Of course Risa's graduation has to be ruined because of this 'member', but oh well. I am so excited, she's finally leaving!

She is nowhere on a Kei/Kaori level, they (while still not super popular), brought something to the group. Bad vocals and constant injures does not make her even a good filler member. Heck, she's not even on a Koharu level because Koharu had a good personality and was pleasant to look at.

Well, although it's not really a surprise because of how inactive she's been, it's rather ABRUPT that she's leaving in like 2 weeks. Meh, so most people hated her, but I really liked her. Wasted potential, and it's annoying that since she joined she was never really pushed. I agree that she was the kind of member who worked behind the scenes, but it's too bad. People may remember Koharu, but a lot of people don't exactly have the fondest memories of her, and she was pushed to the front because she was the supposed "miracle member" (laaaaaaaawl).

Hmm, who else to focus on now, once Aika graduates...

Already like Zukki, though she's already one of those members who gets pushed to the background. I've never been fond of Eripon... Haruka is okay for now, I hope she won't get too precocious. I do like Haruna... I think she's so freaking pretty and her personality doesn't grate. Though again, another member to be shoved in the back? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' /> Dunno why I've never been a fan of the girls pushed up front (i.e. Ai, Reina, Riho)

I don't hate the girl, but I dislike that she got put in MM and never seemed to do anything. Like, hardcore fans may know she's big behind the scenes, but non-Aika fans wouldn't see that. I don't think she can sing or dance and just never seemed to shine even before the injury.

Just my opinion.

(I also like Koharu and know that she can't sing worth a damn. Girl was really cute though so that made up for it.)

I personally think Aika was put in as a buffer for JunJun and LinLin. Put someone in who wont rock the boat too much and wont take away from the Chinese members they were going to sneak in later so she didn't outshine them because they may have had a few issues with them being Chinese and all. And she did just that. If Aika had been a Maki or Reina type with awesome vocals and dancing skills, would you have even bothered with JunJun or LinLin? (International fans, no but Japanese fans, maybe.) People would have been upset, why are these two Chinese upstarts being put in and outperforming our dear Aika!? But Aika wasn't amazing, and the whole thing blew over rather nicely, except for Miki jumping ship. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... I think it's bullshit to say she was one of the "solid players" who just stood in the back and didn't do anything.

And to compare her to Kaori or Kei??

Kaori is a fantastic singer, she has a great voice, Kei is REALLY funny when she goes on TV she is always the butt of the jokes and takes it so well.

Aika on the flip side has never shown she can sing better than any other average person and when she is given a chance to shine on TV she says something so boring, giggles and sits back down.

No a group can't be all stars and MVPs but what a group NEEDS is for everyone to busting their asses to be the best they possibly can be, Did Reina or Ai-chan ever feel they needed to practice their singing more because Aika was getting better and better?

Did Sayumi or Eri feel the need to push themselves to be funnier when they went on TV?

I'm glad she's leaving. good riddance to bad rubbish.

Kei may have had a nice voice and her comedy, but she was never a front girl. Kaori, I never liked so I can't give you an opinion on that. She seemed the mothering type and she was funny on Hello!Morning but other they that she was also a back-up player. They were never going to be front girls, ever. Sure Kaori got some solo work, but other then that, nothing.

Vocals in Morning Musume are subjective. You either like them or you don't. I'm going to use Sayumi as an example.

Sayumi aside from her break out role as a TV personality can't sing or dance. Yet people love her (and hate her) and she gives it her all.

I don't see anywhere that Aika was ever a horrible dancer. The fact that she's been M.I.A twice with a broken foot/leg shows she wasn't just half-assing her dancing, so it's safe to say she was giving it her all.

You can't say that Aika wasn't busting her ass, I can. I can see it in the way she was leading the 9th/10th gen around, helping them dance and all that. In a chair mind you! And at least from what I've seen over the past year, aside from Takahashi and Risa, she was the only one to do so. I've yet to see any footage or Sayumi or Reina taking any care at all with the new girls progress within the group, especially Reina.

Aika's loss is going to be felt in Morning Musume, just as much as Risa's. You're losing the help. Which is why I think Aika was a backbone to the group, she was a support.

I predict a lot of growth and changes to both Reina and Sayumi once Aika is longer behind them with the new girls.

I think Kaori tried to lead, but she was so absent-minded and a space case so I don't know how effective she was at it. As for her voice, I wouldn't call her a strong voice, but when she got the right song, she sounded damn good. After the third album she began her descent into a back-up vocal member along with Kei. Probably because neither had voices very suitable for upbeat pop.

Kei was funny but her role in that came from other people on tv making fun of her, and she just roled with it. If not for that she would have just been the older member the younger girls thought was scary and who was a bit odd looking.

I don't think anyone is arguing that they dislike Aika (or see less value in her as a member) because she's not a front girl. The point is that Kaori and Kei brought a lot to the group as members, they were dynamic. They did the leader/mom thing behind the scenes, but they also had tons of personality that always got featured. Kei was never the star of the singles, but she was often the star of variety shows - much more so than some of the actual front girls. There's plenty a member can do to get noticed without being a front girl. JunJun and LinLin were even more pushed to the back than Aika, but they were certainly memorable.

With idols, it's rarely about having the whole package. People may complain that this is just recent MM, but it's the same even in super popular Johnny's groups. Each idol just needs to have something to make them stand out. Sayu is a terrible singer, but she's got tons of personality. Sayu and Koharu are probably the best examples of the "no such thing as bad publicity" saying. The people who make those "most hated" lists in Japan tend to get a hell of a lot of work. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Aika, on the other hand, has committed the celebrity sin of not leaving an impression at all. I don't think anyone in this thread actually hates her (except maybe Cyrene <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' /> ). I've even seen rob say he's more disappointed in her wasted potential than anything. The problem is she just didn't stand out in any of the categories - not a great singer, not better or worse at dancing than anyone else, not a big personality on shows, and she didn't have the bizarre Konno-boobies effect.

Aika's loss is going to be felt in Morning Musume, just as much as Risa's. You're losing the help. Which is why I think Aika was a backbone to the group, she was a support.

I do agree that she was good at this kind of stuff, which is actually why I think they're keeping her in H!P. No one has graduated from MM and stayed in H!P in ages, not even Koharu, who was certainly young enough. The girls that did stay around back in the day had solo work or new groups to be in that had already been established. I can't imagine they kept her in H!P just to be an MC or do plays or something. They already use H!P grads to do that all the time. They'll probably bring her out at concerts to do a low-key solo number or be in some shuffle groups that don't need a lot of dance, but I have a feeling her main role will be a lot of behind the scenes mentoring, which would be a much better fit for her.

With idols, it's rarely about having the whole package. People may complain that this is just recent MM, but it's the same even in super popular Johnny's groups.
