Akari was in Shin Mini Moni (people might have known her more though since she's Maimi's cousin)

I totally forgot she was Maimi's cousin! I'm surprised there's never any mention of this, or more joint activities for the two of them. I can't say I've ever seen the two of them interact.

Competition for spotlight in a room full of ten other girls keeps the girls interesting and creative with ways to stick out, so I'd hate to see them stagnate and get complacent again.

Yes. <img src='

It was a mature group that had members who worked really well together. But in terms of personality... the complacency factor was huge. Even the girls who did have lots of personality made less effort to show it off. These days even the older girls are working hard to stay relevant.
I'd kind of like to see a 12-15 member Musume, but only if they go back to splitting up the lines the
way they used to. It's okay to have some front girls, or to put out a Mr. Moonlight/Roman every once in a while, but I liked it better when each girl at least got one solo line in the singles. We saw more of them in the PVs and on stage, and I think it helped the girls stand out. It also breaks things up, and it doesn't matter as much if a few girls are weaker singers because not every solo part is some long belted line. If we get an even bigger group and half of them are lucky to even be in a duo line, there's not much point in having all of those girls around.
Edit so I don't double post:

Cuca stated on her blog (she has a blog?) that she's ineligible for this audition:

Apparently you need to be at least 10 years old on April 1st, and her 10th birthday was on April 28th.
Too bad H!P couldn't make a small exception for her.

Yes! She writes her entries on paper and her mom types them up for her. B'awww.
Honestly, as much as I love Cuca, I think it's better that she wait for 12gen. I didn't realize she was quite that young, and as adorable and talented as she is, just barely 10 is really damn young. If girls that young have to be idols, they should be singing nothing but MiniMoni. As dedicated as she is to MM, I don't think there's any risk of her losing interest or going off to AKB or something in the interim.
