That's even more laughable. HAHA

Needing a physical device to secure your account for playing a singleplayer game... wow.

Bought Metal Gear Solid and Far Cry 2 on PSN. MSG is still very much the classic it was and Far Cry 2 is better than I thought it would be, even if it is frustrating at times.

[/quote]

Far Cry 2 is the perfect simulator if you want to repair vehicles 24/7 while having near-instant respawning enemy groups. haha

I would have rather bought MGS 1 for PC (I played it when it was released), it comes with the VR Missions.

lol I've noticed that about FC2. Those damn checkpoints are just annoying.

I remember trying to play a PC version of FF7 when I was younger, but it was a mess. Besides, I played the VR missions game already.

What does FF7 have to do with that ? lol

I played FF7 when it came out on PC and loved it (same goes for FF8) and a few years ago replayed it on XP with a few mods. Didn't have any problems.

There's a weekend deal for Civilization V currently going on on Steam where you can play the game for free.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/8930/

They also have the game and the DLCs for a reduced price (-75%), which is a steal.

So check it out if you're interested.

Oh man, I bought SimCity 2000 on GOG and I'm in total blast from the past mode. I'm having a great time with it, even for as difficult Sim City games end up being. My cities have thus far included "Dood Hood," "Dude Hugs," and "Rude Bois."

[edit] Also, I got Ticket to Ride on Steam because the board game is supposed to be a big hit in the boutique board game space and the Steam version has a bundle with different maps and variations DLC for free. It's fun, but there's a lot going on. I'm not even in the strategic mindset yet, but the two games I've played were fun. I'm looking forward to playing online too.

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT IT IS TUESDAY NOW. I should have come to this board a couple days ago

Aaaanyway...I started playing Alice: Madness Returns (slowly, slowly getting through it because I have to be in the right mood - and preferably not alone), Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, and Bowser's Inside Story. I've never had immediate access to so many video games, and I keep forgetting about them!

Playing FPS (and 3rd person shooters to some degree) with a gamepad is insanely retarded.

It's cringe-worthy how unprecise the aiming is.

When I was at gamescom last year they had two so-called "pro gamers" play halo (LOL) on a huge screen and it was horrible. My friend and I constantly had to laugh, while the casual crowd who's probably never played UTC or BF2 seemed awed.

No, that's not an opinion. It's a fact that a mouse is several leagues above the "precision" of a thumbstick when it comes to FPS.

For a casual gamer like myself I think it's decent for a App game. I don't really expect many decent games on my ipad. The ones that work best are simple games and Minecraft PE edition is simple. After playing both I still like the PE. What can you really expect for $8? I just dig the fact that I can be creative. I figured out the seed for the PC version, I bought it a few days ago and spent two days being unintentionally destructive and falling into trenches. This must be what The Hulk goes though! I also witnessed a Cow get burned alive and all was left was some prime cut meat and leather. Once I get used to it I am going to try survival mode.

Just a reminder that E³ press conferences are coming up tomorrow.

After the hilariously horrible 2010 P.C. Konami stopped doing live ones, same this year. lol

Their P.C. on Friday was absolutely uninteresting.

Today Nintendo had a pre-E³ stream for about half an hour where they showed some alterations to the Wii U controller. The other stuff, like social crap, they showed was nearly as uninteresting.

And the microsoft press conference is over...

Lotsa generic shooters (gears of wars, halo) and disgraces to former great franchises (Splinter Cell, CoD)

Talk about more media crap on the console. Nearly had to puke when I saw disgusting reddit in his "favourites". It felt like it never ended, they went on for nearly 25 minutes, explaining that you now can buy music, browse and watch some boring sports via the console. :|

Three very short trailers/teasers to three games by some small companies. Looked interesting.

Tomb Raider might be cool, but seems to turn into too much into a generic of wars clone.

The South Park creator's appearance was funny and the game's style is great.

RE6 seemed very disappointing, eventhough I liked the action-oriented RE5.

And there was so much advertisement, just like their online service. LOL

halo 4 seems to become a Metroid Prime rip-off. The visors, the style, the enemies.

Luckily not too much kinect shit.

tl;dr the very few interesting things did not get enough attention.

C-

EDIT:

HAHA the votes on GT are fabulous:

"Will Black Ops 2 raise the bar for FPS games ?

YES - 10%

NO - 90%"

2.EDIT (since making a new post every time seems kinda egoistic, so brace for an XBOXHEUG post !):

EA's P.C. was ok.

Probably B- overall.

Negative: Call of Duty - Warfighter looks like a waste for the Frostbite 2 engine. Also, shooting clichée arabs got stale 5 years ago. Not sure why I should care about NfS anymore. Sports games are shit. Disappointed there was nothing to shown from Respawn. No info on BF3 aftermath/end game and they want you to buy it up front with Premium ? Not with me.

Positive: THEY HAD MOTHERFUCKING FIRESTARTER IN THE NFS TRAILER, much better than the disgusting wubstep from MS' Forza trailer. BF3 Premium seems like an OK deal overall, especiall when compared to the shit Activision pulls off with CoD's DLC, but I only care about Armored Kill. Sim City will probably be a really great game.

Can't really tell if Dead Space 3 will be great. On the one hand, co-op is always great, but I also don't want the atmosphere go to shit because you constantly have a companion with you.

3.EDIT:

Sony, I was expecting something bigger from you, but solid B.

Hipster page is not cool and their so-called "All Stars" game has an absolutely abysmal and horrible artstyle, which basically means "none". Was entertaining except for the books and that harry crappoter shit. That disgusting shit went on for way too long. Who the hell cares about harry potter except for uneducated 8 y'olds !?

No GTA V so far, which is insanely disappointing.

A bunch of big PS3 games in their 'Complete Edition' forms have been on sale in the psn store for the past week (I think it ends today). I got Infamous 2 and it's pretty great so far. Unfortunately, it made me break my mid-year resolution to not buy games without finishing the ones I already have.

Also, Gravity Rush comes out in a week.

Nintendo's P.C. was less than impressive and I think they sold absolutely nobody on the Wii U.

Pikmin and ZombiU look really good and interesting, but besides that ? Not a single game stood out. Where's the outstanding Mario game for launch ? Where's a new Zelda or Metroid ?

You can NOT succesfully launch this winter with such a lackluster games lineup.

I can't decide how I feel about the new SimCity. I mean I'm going to get it, because well, it's a SimCity from Maxis, even if it's not really Maxis and it's just EA (EAxis?) but they seem to keep repeating "we have lots of experience from the older simcities! it'll be great! we know what we're doing!" and then they force multiplayer? But then not really? They really need to get on point with what they're actually doing with that, it's so unclear. And I hope they work on textures more, the graphics look okay but it could do with more refinement.

Only other thing from E3 that caught my eye that I could even play would be Watch Dogs which seems right up my alley. Modern day assassin's creed + GTA = yes please.

I want Last of Us but alas, consoles can rot in hell.

I must be a huge failure of a nerd, because every time someone brings up console hate, I don't get it. Seems good to have something designed to process games IMO, 'cause I can hardly picture my computer being able to handle all the stuff I put on it anyway plus do gaming. It has enough issues handling Sims 3 with lag. D:

I guess I'd rather have a really expensive thing which only plays games than try to get an even more expensive thing that can do it all? Consolidating everything that way sounds apt to crashing and losing everything to me...

I built my computer for a bit over $1k (that's including the monitor) and while it's by no means top of the line, it runs everything on max graphics without too many frame rate problems. (I can't say it's going too well with Skyrim, but I do mod the hell out of that. TOO MANY TEXTURES.) I just have no need for a TV anymore, my computer runs everything I need. I can swap in parts from time to time when they get old and need replacement. You say "consolidating" increases the risk for crashing and burning, but that's just not true. A computer does not "brick" like consoles do. I also don't need to completely buy a new console every time a game company decides to grace us with one. (It's been 6 years since Playstation 3 was released and 7 since 360).

I don't really want to start any flamewars, I have no problem with other people wanting consoles, but I have to call a spade a spade. They're useless to me and only serve to hold back gaming advancement because of their limited hardware. Even the specs I've been seeing of the new Xbox system are years behind current PC hardware.

I'd hate to start a flame war too (even though this is exactly how this exact flame war has started since the mesozoic era), but consoles provide a level of convenience you don't get with PCs (granted, I love playing on my PC too). The specs aren't cutting edge, but they're more-or-less standardized and make social gaming easier. Plus, they're also relatively simpler to setup as media centers/content devices and failure rates have plummeted since Microsoft realized they should make their devices out of plastic, not rice paper. Also, 6-7+ years of game hardware support is pretty good.

When (exclusively) console and PC players clash against eachother there are usually two arguments:

Easy of use <=> Freedom

Convenience it will run <=> Advancing technology faster

I still plan on buying a PS3 some time for exclusives like Katamari, but there have been just too many PC games these past ~3 years, so there was no need for me to buy one.

The Wii U's hardware seems to be a fucking joke. It still can't run even games like NSMB in 1080p. LOL

EDIT:

Since we're at the topic of gaming technology, look at this Unreal Engine 4 demo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=MOvfn1p92_8

The Wii U can't run UE4.

Lawl, I didn't know there was a fan war history here, sorry. :I

But I thought gaming consoles (PS3 in particular) were supposed to be top of line, thus why they're so outrageously expensive? (The original $600 price tag is what I'm talking about here--$250 to $300 I consider much more reasonable.) And I would figure something designed exclusively for one purpose, unlike a computer, could focus more of the best technology into it to produce more top of the line games.

I guess that's the crux of this whole issue, but I always see the console vs computer gamers and wonder what all the fuss is about. The guy at Best Buy who sold me my laptop a few years back went into a few of the gaming perks, but other than a decent graphics card, it's pretty standard and not gaming friendly. I feel like people have to really specialize their computers to be up to snuff on gaming, so wouldn't a console, which is already equipped to do that, technically be better? Or is that the "easy to use" argument nesh mentioned where a console is already equipped to play games, but a specialized computer with the right stuff would be way more powerful?

I'm talking about every discussion ever that involves PC and console exclusive gamers in every place ever. lol

I feel like people have to really specialize their computers to be up to snuff on gaming

Without writing a several pages long essay...

No, there are guides online and you can always ask a friend or on PC boards where to get a reasonable priced gaming PC.

Of course, preferably you'd build it yourself (it's really not that hard, just plug in all the stuff). System nowadays even barely have any screws anymore and they're mostly push-slide-click stuff. Except for a few things like coolers.

Sony thought they needed some fancy-ass CPU in their console, so it was really overpriced when compared to other current gen consoles. Similar thing (GPU) happened with the PS2, which was also expensive during it's launch, except for the fact that it could play DVDs, which was a novelty. The M$ consoles are basically just dumbed down PCs.

When PS3 etc. got released I was already gaming in 1680x1050, something the consoles didn't even come close. They devs even need to downscale the games nowadays sometimes below 720p (1280x720) to get a steady 60fps and V-Sync going.

PC has been the pioneer in gaming technology for the past 15 years. Before that, during the SNES times, the lines were more blurred. This of course also had to do with PCs back then being waaaay more expensive than nowadays and consoles were the

And before that we had console-PC-mix things like the C64, that at core were PCs, but often used like consoles.

But since the Dreamcast onwards consoles were released with already dated hardware. PC technology was already ahead 1~2 years.

Which is also why consoles are actually cheap to get (not sure why you'd think consoles are expensive).

Let's be honest, console gaming isn't that user-friendly anymore either. You have to install games, download patches etc.

Of course, that's what you always had to do on PCs, so PC users don't see it as a hindrance. Their newest shit is DRM, which, luckily, seems to be decreasing again. Ubisoft pulled off some really huge shit 2 years ago and now most publishers seem to think that things like Steam, where you're only recommended to register your game once and then can stay offline, are the way to go.

Blizzard being the obvious jerkface exception.

This generation also saw a huge amount of hardware failures, not so much with the Wii, but with the PS3 to some degree and especially the first two generations of the xbox. But if you buy a M$ console you don't deserve it any other way imho.

This debate doesn't always have to turn into a flamewar, we're not that immature here. I think it's fine to discuss the points in a rational manner and no one is getting incensed.

Consoles are fine for people who don't want to think too much about what they're getting, there's nothing wrong with that. It's like the difference between a fast food meal vs a home made one. They both can have their time and place.

But what I mostly object to is because game developers often must create games with the lowest common denominator in mind (lower spec consoles), PC people get the shaft. They often have to suffer poor ports, minimal effort in optimization, and shaky support. But yet every multiplatform game demoed at E3 this year was running on a PC. I think this speaks tremendously to the state gaming has reached.
