I think Sooyoung actually looks like one of the best here, though, other than my eternal love for Seohyun making me like her styling a lot. Coincidentally, I think Jessica, my least favorite, looks the worst. All this basically convinces me they all look good and it's just my biases coming out. ..... But Jessica's feathery boobs still look bad.

I don't like Sooyoung's pants in A or B. In B I thought they stuck her in front of the hotel's plant at first. Ugly! I like Sunny's circus ringmaster-y outfit in A, but it looks bad with the group as a whole. And on that point, I don't like any else's outfits.



The trenches they wore in the teaser were cute. Trenches look good on everyyyybody though.

I'm pretty sure TTS's promotion cycle is over, so this video is just SM's parting "gift" to us. The full group is gearing up for another round of phonetically speaking rote snippets of broken Japanese.



Maybe those of you who would care have seen these already, but here are TTS's recent solo performances on Sketchbook. I couldn't really get into Tiffany's, but I liked Taeyeon's and Seohyun's. In particular, I thought "Take a Bow" was a good choice for Taeyeon as it suits her natural singing voice much better than continuous belting in her upper register. Singing lower in her range brings out the richness and warmth in her tone. Her interpretation was rather melancholy, which is an interesting clash with the lyrics, and I'm not sure if that was a deliberate choice or due to not entirely understanding the English.



Sketchbook did do postprocessing/cleanup on the live vocals for broadcast, so you'll have to check out fancams to find out what they really sounded like. Taeyeon's intonation was only very slightly touched up, Seohyun seems to have gotten a bit more extensive processing, and I haven't yet dared to look for Tiffany's...



They also covered "Cater 2 U", which wasn't broadcast for whatever reason, so here is a fancam mix version featuring a few phrases with actual three-part harmony! It's always bugged me that despite nominally having so many singers in these idol groups, they rarely sing harmony, counterpoint, or anything more interesting than taking turns singing bits of the melody, followed by the chorus, followed by more chorus possibly with an ad lib on top of it.

It's a mediocre song.

Certainly not as sucky as The Boys, but nothing great either.



I wonder how they're going to perform this one live. It'd be great if they get out on the stage with the coats, take them off and throw them away.

Most of those outfits are awful, though. Keep the trenchcoats on, please and thank you. Sunny's striped stockings and Hyoyeon's black and white getup looked cute, though!

I really like those suit/peplum outfits but wish they'd ditched the pink gloves. Otherwise those were great.



I could have done without that intro. I was just waiting for the song to get started and it felt like it never would. It's easily the best MV they've ever done (depending on how much you liked ITNW) but the song sucks.

The song feels like it's all over the place structurally -- very jarring on first listen, somewhat less so after getting used to it. It's not a classic, but I guess it's pretty decent for a post-2009 SNSD/SJJD title track. It's too bad that the video was the same old dancing in a box, albeit a more elaborate box. The choreography wasn't enough to make it interesting.



It always seems to me that SJJD's songs are very Jessica-heavy, so I actually counted the damn solo lines in this one. First number is the count of solo/duet measures, second number makes duet measures count for only half value.



Jessica: 14/14

Taeyeon: 12/12

Sunny: 10/9

Tiffany: 10/9

Seohyun: 10/9

Yuri: 8/6

Yoona: 4/3

Sooyoung: 4/3

Hyoyeon: 4/3



So relative to the norm, there's more Jessica, less Taeyeon and Seohyun, and a lot more Yuri. I didn't include whoever does the adlib "Life is a party, yeah yeah" at the very end, because I couldn't tell who it was. The "yeah yeah" sounds very Tiffany-like, but the first part doesn't. All the solo parts were only 2 bars each -- it really underscores Taeyeon's comment about the lack of actual singing time in a large group.

What in the world is that, SM? Lmao, stop getting ahead of yourself and being so douchey about it.



That said, all their Japanese material is mediocre anyway, so I'm actually impressed by this! The PV worked out well and I'm glad the outfits from the promo pictures were actually used here. The song is also not written exclusively to Seohyun, Taeyeon, and Jessica's level like most of their Korean material, so the other girls can actually sing it! Not sure if anyone other than the usual front girls get many lines here, but that's how it could be at least.

I heard that for the first time in that blog entry too.

Despite sounding like a sailor, I think it comes from "partnership". People that are delusional and think it's cool to talk about other people's partnerships (or imaginary partnerships...).

I always figured it came from "relationship" as shippers are usually people in a fandom (of fictional people...) who like to "ship" certain characters together.



It just crosses an ugly, horrible line when shipping goes from fantasy into reality though, and you get these kinds of people.



I feel really sorry for people who can't differentiate fantasy from reality so badly that they apply it to real, breathing people. It was a funny idea when I first heard about it and found Ayumi Hamasaki fanfiction shipping her with random male singers, but when the shippers started taking themselves and their celebrity romantic ideas seriously, I made sure to not touch the idea with a ten foot pole ever again.
