Re: UFA/OG Spam Thread :: Dreaming of Yuu Edition
Why is this such an issue though? Perhaps I don't understand how Japanese pop culture works. She's not an idol or under H!P anymore so that's a non-issue. Is it taboo to work in the entertainment industry while dating?
I'm actually pretty happy for her. She spent her entire time growing up without the chance to have someone in her life in this vein. The only thing I wonder is if this went on behind the scenes and may have been cause for her graduation (but nothing was said because Ai was so popular).

The Japanese are apt to be nervous in that case. Probably it's a national character of Japanese.

I don't think so. It said they met in 2011 but her graduation was announced pretty early in January.

Feh. She's 25 and going out with a 37 year old. I'd go out with a 40 year old and I am also 25. Good on her. Older men are better anyway.
Seriously. Why are people automatically assuming she's in some sort of abnormal, messed up, weird relationship when all we have are some pictures and the guy's age? Female idols spend a lot of time working with comedians and older male actors on variety TV, radio, and plays. If those are the men she's around most, it's natural for her to develop relationships, romantic or otherwise, with those people. Just because Takahashi herself is beautiful doesn't mean she's vain and has to date some super hot young male celebrity.
May-December relationships are fine and dandy when both parties are still young.... but once both begin aging and entering the latter stages of life, the "minor" thing like age becomes a "major". Not saying Ai will marry this man, but saying that is the problem I have with May-December relationships.
Charles Shaughnessy is 57 and if I was in this age difference situation I would be 45, and hell to the freakin yes I would go there (I'd go there right now tbh >.>). 37 is just not that old for a guy in my opinion, and a 12 year age gap isn't that bad. When he's 60, you'd be 48. That doesn't seem like an issue for me, especially because guys age better than girls anyway.

The difference is that you're seeing this as JUST an age differential. It's about the respective age of the people involved, and there's admittedly much less personal growth to experience between 48 and 60 than there is between 24 and 37. So for a 40 and 68 year-old, they're chronologically different ages, but mentally and emotionally in the same ballpark. I don't think the same can be said about a 24 year-old and 37 year-old.
But of course, it changes depending on who is in the relationship; it just seems more likely to follow the failure mold based on the same mental and emotional differences that pop up in relationships like this all the time.
At the end of the day, no one really cares that much. Just things on our minds when we read about stuff like this.

I have no idea who or what that is, but damned if it's not a mindfuck. I always wondered.
Also I swear to god Tsunku pops up in that video multiple times. That can't be my imagination.

That's almost as surprising as when I saw the Iron Chef guy in the live action Death Note.

To be fair, they were mentioned as well. This is what Dream Musume should have done, hilarious parody lyrics for all of the classic songs.
I still say they need to make a Joshi Kashimashi based on the scandals of H!P.

This New York Times article offers a profile of music producer Kuk Harrell, who's busy these days producing records for Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez.
For those who are interested, his connection to UFA/OG Spam is the fact that Harrell once sang an English cover of "Akai Nikkichou" under the title, "Red Diary." As such he was the only male singer to perform on the two albums of English-language covers of Hello! Project songs released over ten years ago. The handful of name singers on those albums included Irene Cara, Vanessa Williams, Sheena Easton, and Tiffany. "Akai Nikkichou" had been originally performed by a shuffle unit (in the year 2000, I think) that included Maki Goto and Yuko Nakazawa, both of whom went on to sing solo versions of the song. Harrell's version is quite credible, actually.
