How strict are hotels in America?

Back in the UK when I was touring with my band we would often just book 1 person into a single room, and then pile 10-15 people in the same room and split the cost.

50 pounds divided among 10-15 people is a great deal...

or is that roughing it a bit TOO much???

You can totally do that. I'm sure if there's enough people here that want to go that route, you can snag a room and split it.

You best watch yourself or you might get banned by a certain admin.

It really does happen. Just warning you.

And might I add at the BBS that you may not just do as you wish as we have rules.

I'm just doing my job as a moderator here.

Well to be fair there is no rule against using honorifics... unless my quick look over the rules failed?

Besides... I never really got the dislike of using honorifics, they are standard and normal for me... but then maybe that's because I've been in Japan for almost 10 years??

No there isn't. It's more one of the unofficial/unwritten rules. But that's not exactly what rule I was referring to :)

And it was the way that they replied to Haru, not the use of honorifics, that made me throw the rules at them.

If an honorific is in their nickname, i.e. Gaki-san, then you can use it. You can usually get away with -chan here, but most people don't use it unless it's part of their nickname. But when people say stuff like -sama and in some cases -san where it just sounds odd then people will point it out. You could also probably maybe get away with Tsunku-san. I don't know really.

I get what you mean though, about honorifics, but since we are not speaking Japanese here, we don't use them. But really, how often do you ever use '-sama'?? I think I've only said it as a joke.

Well. While I'm not a mod of this forum (my home is the K-pop forum), I do have a moderator badge and a certain amount of respect would be nice.

Also it isn't unwritten. It's just a little vague:

Knowing the Word 'Baka' Does Not Mean You Speak Japanese It's not so much a major gripe of mine, but a whole lot of people here can't stand someone who sticks random Japanese phrases into their English. Pick a language and stay with it. An occasional* 'Arigato' is fine, and of course it doesn't apply to song titles or lyrics. If you really want to show us your mad Japanese skills, this board handles Japanese text just fine.

* - "occasionally" is interpreted at the BBS staff's sole discretion and normally means "never-fucking-ever". If you feel like disputing our interpretation, refer to Rule 6 first.

Well firstly, Kikka-sama is a name used often by fans of her online from the various places I have been. She even used it herself in her solo dvd whilst playing a Bondori in Okinawa (no clip sadly) Secondly this whole sense of 'you know baka so don't speak japanese' Well actually I have studied it at college for three years, I am not fluent, far from it, but I do read, write and speak it (which came in useful when changing my party's train tickets for the shinkansen at 11pm in Hakata!) So while you might have had issues with some people 'weeabooing out' as it was so eloquently put, I am far from it, always have been, always will be, end of discussion.

Because you seem to have missed it on your first reading, MM-BBS is NOT those other places.

We don't care about your grasp of Japanese unless you can contribute in a useful way. You're new here, so stick to the rules. When in doubt, err on the STFU side, or ask politely in the Members section. We're not unreasonable, we just like our kind of order on our BBS. And do not diss your Mods. Mods are your Gods.

Now go redo your avatar properly, because I can't stand looking at those badly scaled down, squished images. And get back on the damn topic.

Since I come from the grim northern steppes of England (to which any Scottish user is rightly snorting!) I can say that I don't care if you're a clone of other forums or not, I carry myself my own way thank you very much. Secondly, mods are gods? No pal, not even remotely close to the truth. In all my years of being on forums there is one constant, and that is people like yourself placing moderators on some form of pedestal which they don't want or need to be placed on, well... Any decent mod or admin bod that is, inflate your own ego on here all you like, it won't impress me much that I can tell you. And if that means I am one of those "idiots we terminate with extreme prejudice" then that suits me fine, as at least it means I am not some elitist dickhead who gets off one being an admin of a forum that openly says "we're to get away from all that bullshit but make up bullshit of our own." Yeah, great election slogan there guys, but since I am known for being off-script and off the record I don't mind a good fight. But just be clear, if you bring a landing craft, I'll bring an aircraft carrier.

Now, for being back on topic, gotta say I am mighty impressed with the cost of this trip, I was gonna go Japan and hopefully catch something of Kikka-sama's out there but that would have cost the same as my flight and ground stay in America, purely in air-fare! add to that the dollar/pound exchange being easier on the wallet than the yen/pound and I am really delighted. Anyone know any good food joints in Hotlanta that do those epic food challenges? Over here it is all cooked breakfast challenges and I wanna try something new

Nice try pal, but if you make disrespecting your hosts your credo, I don't foresee a very long tenure for your on any forum. If fact, your tenure on the MM-BBS has just come to an end. We appreciate people with their own opinions and we can overlook an occasional slip-up, but this kind of outright bs we will not tolerate. Have a nice life.

Umm, on topic, I wonder if this will get a DVD release like the AX one did? Though AX was mostly backstage footage from a Japanese company, wasn't it?

I hope there is a DVD. Better be one. She has a great stage presence and that should be preserved on disc. It's also her first US performance.

The entire Southeast has been hit with a massive heat wave (all of America but SE seems to be getting it the worst), and Atlanta yesterday hit the highest recorder temperature in the history of ever.

In terms of what it's like in September, it may run somewhere in the 80s (26 and up for you metric losers).

In terms of getting a great deal, book now. A little less than three months to go.

DVD will probably be FC only. Crank up those eBay searches.

Not at all. If anything, when it comes to anime conventions, that situation you described is common practice. Even though it's technically against the rules to exceed a certain number of people, you'll find 6-12 people crammed into various rooms (depending on the room size.) Hotels are not typically adamant about enforcing this, so long as the room doesn't get damaged and they get their money. My issue, really, is that I'm such a light sleeper. Sharing a room is difficult enough, but I'm also basically incapable of sleeping on floors. And with that many people in a room, even with folks sharing the bed space, most people will still end up on the floor.
