YESSSSSSS. OH YES. It's Psy! Gangnam Style! You know you want that in your ears and eyes!

Holy shit, that is my favorite music video ever. The first part with Yoo Jae Suk I was hoping to see him do the grasshopper dance and was a little disappointed until the end. So fucking good.

PSY was ruling Korea long before LMFAO even existed. But I also love LMFAO so I opt to view this as a compliment.

God it hurts my brain so much to think anyone believes LMFAO is at all original. I like their music for the most part, but god damn they are not some amazing new thing like a lot of people seem to think. Hopefully that was just a troll post though.

K, well you said the video was a 1:1 copy of lmfao, as if they somehow made that "shtick", so I took that as you caring about them/being a fan. I'm just sick of the constant OMG PLAGIARISM shit all over the place (not referencing anything here specifically, just in general)

There's a cool article outlining the weaknesses of SME/JYPE/YGE. I thought it was interesting.

A summary in case it's tl;dr for you:

SM - A very rigid system. All their groups and songs follow the same structure. "systematically built on the ideal idol image, overseas music trends, chic styling, and massive amounts of publicity, the SM system is still vulnerable to that ‘1% of unpredictability’." IT's worth noting that EXO still did well despite not really blowing up overnight.

JYPE - JYP himself. Kind of a Tsunku situation where EVERYTHING is produced by him. It's all way too similar and it's getting old.

YG - Closed communication/heavy reliance on Big Bang. The company tends to focus on on SBS and neglects KBS and MBC. "This is the case not just with television, but also with newspapers, magazines, and other media. It may not be a big problem for artists that have reached a certain level of success; however that is not the case for new artists. The smallest negative matters brought up by sides that are not “alliances”, can cause a fatal blow on up and coming artists." Big Bang also accounted for 70 percent of their sales in 2010, so if something every happened to the, the company would theoretically be in huge trouble financially.

70% is just crazy, especially for something as fleeting as a musical act. Hell, at the height of Ayumi Hamasaki's career, she only accounted for 40% of avex's sales.

I've never paid a huge amount of attention to Big Bang, but seeing a figure like that makes me really curious. I wonder how reliable it is.

Hm. The article was pretty interesting and pretty true as well. I agree with what was said about most of the agencies. One thing I notice about SM Ent. is that they really like the formula thing. Once they find something they like music wise, they stick with it, e.g with Super Junior ever since Sorry Sorry, all of their title tracks are electropop-autotune stuff. Same with most of their other groups, they follow the same pattern like f(x) with Chu~ Nu ABO and Danger and now Electric Shock, all follow somewhat of a similar pattern.

I disagree with what was said about the Wonder Girls though,I think they've definitely broken out of the retro concept recently but that's just me.

And with YG, they definitely place most of their emphasis on Big Bang, but that's probably a given since they're one of the top idol groups and all. Oh though weren't they supposed to be debuting a new girl group soon? Or did I miss it?

No, they are. But the newer groups from SM and JYP haven't really blown up, so I can't help but wonder if YG's new group will follow suit. I think some of the big three hype is gone.

The companies usually report this stuff at the end of the year, so it's probably fairly reliable. Especially since I don't recall any of their soloists doing anything in 2010.

I agree with the general statements in the article, though I actually think JYP has a pretty good range. In particular, some of Miss A's releases are seriously excellent and manage to be pretty different from the standard JYP release.

SM is formulaic and that's nothing new, but the fact of the matter is it has worked for them so far and it doesn't look to be changing anytime soon.

Wow, I somehow missed that the year YG reported 70% for Big Bang in was 2010. They mostly focused on solo releases and Japanese activities in that year, right? And here I thought they probably used 2011's numbers when Big Bang made their big comeback. And that was a great year for 2NE1, too. Was it the tour and promotional activities that put Big Bang so over the top? I don't even know...

Also, showraniy, check out Fantastic Baby. If it doesn't stir the dance monster deep inside of you I can't help you. Big Bang are honestly the only boy group I could care less about.

Big Bang do more TV stuff, which is probably an important factor. And 2ne1's album didn't come out until the second half of the year. They always take a long time to comeback.

Commercial deals are also a huge factor, no? I feel like I remember the BB members getting some pretty big endorsement deals that year.

Gosh, I just can't sit through a boygroup music video without starting to laugh or at least smirk. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Especially asian ones.

I actually think that song purposely alternates between serious dance jam and self-aware silliness. It's kind of why I love it.

The live performances of that song were definitely really silly on purpose. 2:30 on the first video makes me laugh every time.

Evol - We Are a Bit Different

The song is not that different, but damn if it isn't catchy. I like it so much I'm even ignoring some all of the styling decisions.

We're also getting a female break dancing group too.

Is anybody else getting sick of all these new groups debuting? It's getting a little old.

I'm also aware that there is literally no end in sight and that I should just accept it.

Not really. The ones that won't make it are weeded out quickly enough (i.e the ones that don't get to be on the music shows often). And I'm all for new groups if they're better than the old ones.

^Yeah I agree, there were a number of debuts last year, but I haven't really heard from them since their debut, so I just assume they weren't able to break through the market

I'm really digging Seo In Young's new release, ANYMORE.

The video's like a styled photoshoot in MV format, and the song's really good. It grows on you. Really loving some of the styling, too. Very f(x)/2NE1-y.
