Miki's discography is one of my favorites to revisit. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /weeeh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' />

Not as funny as Erectrician, but Base Ball Bear's new Hatsukoi mini album will contain a track with Hyadain that is called "Bokura no frai awei". I always love when Japan makes fun of Japan.

release date: 7/11

1. 初恋

2. ぼくらのfrai awei

3. 君はノンフィクション

4. 60-Minute Live Track From “TOUR 新呼吸”

  (2012/5/20 @ Zepp Tokyo)

I'm also excited about the live track, they basically performed the new album tracks in order, but they replaced a calm track with one of their most intense from the past.

The special edition comes with an EP record size jacket, 20page booklet, post card, sticker and poster. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ohyeah.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D/' /> 2000 yen

Haha, you're on a roll with Ayu lately, aren't you?

She's actually a great performer, and well known for really elaborate (and expensive) sets and costumes, so I recommend any of her arena tours to showcase that. Particularly her 2006 and 2009 ones. IMO, 2006 is promoting a better CD, her album (miss)understood, but 2009 has some of the best performances (the opening number is really cool and Ayu really shows how great a performer she is).

To be honest, I don't know about her more recent tours since I haven't seen them, but I at least remember those two as tours I always came back to year after year.

Thanks for those, yes I do really like her stuff, her singles are different and the concert clips I've seen on YouTube looks great.

I've found the Arena Tour 2003-2004 on eBay so I've put in a bid. Looks like I am going to have to pay the eye-watering prices CD Japan are charging for the other two, nearly £50 for a DVD, somebody is having a laugh and it isn't me.

Continuing my quest to find Japanese acts in the twilight of their career, I've also discovered Hikaru Utada who is amazing so I'll be spending the rest of my money that hasn't gone on Ayu on her. Just as well I don't have a social life <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... lleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

Her lives are great too! I got to see her in Chicago when she was doing the American tour and it was great <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Her most popular one is that Bohemian one though, see if you can find that.

Omg, I'm Hikaru's biggest stan. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I try to hide it, but I don't think I do it very well.

I absolutely can help you with anything Hikki related if you ever need help because I know everything she's ever released, haha. In fact, you'll be happy to know I actually buy all of her stuff--one of the only artists I actually buy anything for. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... stling.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' /> A great thing about her is that all her DVDs have always been released region free, so I can actually, y'know, watch them. Genius marketing, that.

And I went to her Chicago concert too, Wapiko! I was all the way in the back on the first floor because I wasn't 21 at the time (stupid balcony :\), but she was so cute babbling on about the museum paintings. /digression

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of her Bohemian Summer Tour, but it probably IS her most well-known tour since it's the first one she did. I prefer her Utada United and Wild Life tours myself, and I can expand on why through a PM or what-have-you if you want. Compared to Ayu, her sets are much, much simpler, and she rarely changes costumes, but she's very personable on stage and loves talking to the audience throughout. Really lovely woman. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

For real!? I was on the first floor too! I was kind of by the stairs to the main moshpit area (lol, but there was no moshpit) with a few friends of mine. Wouldn't it be something if, in that room of hundreds of people, we were nearby <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hikki always came off to me as an incredibly down-to-earth artist and I actually admired her reluctance to make television appearances. She was my first Jpop singer so I have a soft spot for her and anything she does...and a huge crush on her XD

It's the Utada United concert that got me into her. Back in my Usenet days I downloaded it then forgot it and didn't watch it until a couple of weeks ago.

It was her just performing with her band, no gimmicks, no costume changes every other song, just her singing which is what impressed me so much. Also she's a great singer, really interprets the songs beautifully, well at least the English ones I could understand <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

I agree that Utada United was a really a great show. She gets a lot of flak for her English songs, but her performances of "Kremlin Dusk" and "You Make Me Want To Be A Man" were just outstanding and completely memorable.

Hello everybody, my name is The Turtle Moves and I am addicted to Japanese female rock bands....

There you are, I've admitted I have a problem, is this the first step to recovery?

I have got to stop looking at YouTube, I've just discovered Stereopony (and with Scandal <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ), Aldious, Cyntia, Galmet and Dazzle Vision (the last two for all you Death Metal fans), finally Light Bringer. Yes, I did notice the last two are only female lead singers but that's close enough for rock 'n' roll.

Yup, couldn't agree more, and what a great band she has.

Well, Babymetal have finally turned out some disappointing crap. Their new song "Headbangeeeerrrr!!!!" is pretty awful. After their first 2 singles being absolutely fantastic, they finally fell into complete crap. The song is actually kind of annoying to listen to. There is almost no melody and basically no traces of idol music anywhere, besides the fact that they're young girls. It just sounds like a drab, depressing visual kei song with a really heavy metal arrangement, where all the fun, well-written melodic idol pop parts in their previous releases are nowhere to be found. I guess nothing that good can last forever. Its still better than Morning Musume's new song, at least.

Video. Blech.

I have to disagree, Babymetal are my guilty secret, I love them and I really like this too. As somebody on YouTube says "The concept REALLY shouldn't work at all, but this... somehow... does."

I can't comment on the MM comparison as I haven't bothered listening to it <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... stling.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />.

I love Babymetal to death, I wasn't trying to say I don't like them, but the concept of the group is supposed to be mixing idol music with metal, and that's exactly what the first 2 singles did, now its just this utterly terrible visual kei ripoff that has no traces of idol music in it, just pure, uninspired metal crap.

I agree there is a definite shift in the feel to this, there is less idol in there but that doesn't bother me. I don't know about the visual kei ripoff as I have never been able to stand more than about 45 seconds of any visual kei teack I've ever listened to. Maybe there is a thought that if they stick too much to the idol/metal mix it would be too much of a one-trick pony so they are going for a bit of variation but having said that I hope they don't move too far away from the original idea.

I'm pretty much the same with visual kei, but I've heard enough 45 second clips to know that the sound of this song is pretty much the prime example of what's hot in that scene right now, and without the idol part to differentiate it, this goes too far into that territory that I want nothing to do with. It just sounds plain bad to me.

Party Rockets are the sister unit to Dorothy Little Happy. Check out a preview of their debut single, out August 15th. It's got a bit of a heavy metal vibe to it.

Does anybody here listen to Enka or Chanson-like Japanese songs ?

I'm looking for some good songs.

Similar songs to this:

橋幸夫 - 雨の中の二人 (Hashi Yukio - ame no naka no futari ["the two in the rain"])

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNDdUIbVWQA

Probably preferably by male singers, but I can't say for sure yet.

EDIT:

But stuff like Meiko Kaji's is also fine !

How come the new Scandal single, Taiyou Scandalous, is the least interesting (i.e. bloody boring) thing they've done yet it's No2 in the weekly charts and will probably be their best selling single....WHY?

Obviously because they've turn from rock to pop-rock. Anything poppy sells better since it's mainstream.

Eventhough I don't care about them, I'd say their music is still leagues more "valuable" than average J-Pop (also incl. H!P).

Also, sexier outfits.

Sadly you may be right, I don't mind the occasional move towards pop territory as long as they mostly keep the rock thing going.

Considering their last single with "Taiyou" in the title sucked balls, I didn't expect much. And the song is crap, but at least the girls look amazing in the PV and it proves the Mami/Tomomi combo is greater than the boring who-cares-about-them-girls. As long as their album tracks don't suck balls again... But anyway, the single wasn't a complete waste. THe 90s hip hop track was effing hilarious. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ah, Taiyou to Kimi ga Egaku Story - I wouldn't go that far, but it wasn't great.

Worryingly, after a few hearings, I'm starting to like the new Taiyou. Oh well, I'm nothing if not spineless.

The Mami/Tomomi combo could rule the world.

Holy shit, you guys, I just discovered Alan and subsequently this gorgeous professional guitar cover of the same song.

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME SHE EXISTED BEFORE? Does anyone else know anything about her? I kind of need more of this, but the few songs I checked out from later in her career (Diamond, etc.) sound like typical throwaway Jpop garbage when I need to hear more of her Tibetan wail to make my soul happy.
