Holy shit, you guys, I just discovered Alan and subsequently this gorgeous professional guitar cover of the same song.

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME SHE EXISTED BEFORE? Does anyone else know anything about her? I kind of need more of this, but the few songs I checked out from later in her career (Diamond, etc.) sound like typical throwaway Jpop garbage when I need to hear more of her Tibetan wail to make my soul happy.

[/quote]

Apparently she's Chinese but of Tibetan ancestry. I like what I'm hearing, nicely emotive and an interesting blend of styles <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

Speaking of alan, a very long time ago (think 2007) I saved an image I thought was pretty from some Asian singer's Japanese website and I forgot to label it. I thought it was either JYONGRI or alan but I remember looking it up a few years ago and not finding anything. I say "Asian singer" because I can't remember if she was Japanese or not.

Does she look familiar?

They are wonderful ladies. I'll forever brag that I was one of the 4 members of their audience every time they performed when they first started out. Now when they play local shows there's always a rather large turnout

I just saw Pat Benatar live. She rocked it when she sang, flawless performance just like her voice was back in the 80s with no off key mishaps ah I am in love <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Classy and sweet too. Her MCs were really short, but you got the sense of her charming personality. But her performance, ah. She is almost 60 and she worked it like a 20 year old. Hell, I've seen 20 year olds do less than she did. She didn't move around the stage a lot, but all her energy went to her vocal performance. wow just wow <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm looking forward to the CD debut of Palet this month, the sister group of Passpo. They don't sound bad. (But that may be the lipsync talkin'.)

Why I hate musical genres, R&B, is that proper R&B or shit R&B.

Having said that artists like Utada Hikaru are called R&B but to me there is a million miles between her and Mariah Carey, Beyonce or Rihanna.

Oh and I hate Coldplay, Manic Street Preachers and any bloody boy band.

R&B as a whole, not one of my favorite genres. As well as Jazz. There's just something about a saxophone that makes me want to throw it across a room. Kenny G, it's his fault.

But to be fair to R&B, I did grow up listening to mostly contemporary R&B, a lot. My friends really liked the music so I sort of forced it on myself with Boy2Men, TLC and Mariah Carey. But I was never really happy with it, only liking maybe one or two songs.

I tried to get into Utada's music, never could. I just about forced myself in the beginning and then I just gave up.

The only boy bands I can tolerate are the kpop ones now. Even when I was younger and it was normal for a younger tween girl to love boy bands, New Kids on the Block and N'Sync were the only two I bothered listening too. New Kids, mainly because it was the thing too do because they were from Boston and everyone loved them and I had a major girly crush on Jordan.

In fact, most of my childhood was shaped around what other people listened too, since I was never really given a choice on what I could listen too. I listened to country and oldies, because that's what my mother listened too. I listened to patriotic, bagpipe and folk music because that's what my father listened too. I listened to rock and rap because that's what my sister listened too. So I've been very open to everything musically.

I find I lean more towards liking Rock, Pop, Classical, and Electro music. Saying I like one person is hard because I can listen to anyone and like a song or two. (Except Kenny G)

I always hated buying CDs because I would only like one or two songs and found the rest of the album to be a waste of my money. I'm so happy the MP3 was born. Buying CDs sucked so hard.

Anyway~ I bought two CDs today, they are those cheesey compilation CDs that have a bunch of different artists on them. 60s Brit Pop and 80s Pop Music. I like them the best because you know, someone else picked a bunch of good songs and stuffed them on a CD and not me. Compilations and Soundtracks make up more of my collection then artist CDs. (Outside of Jpop)

I've been getting into a lot of Jack White's music lately, mostly because my boss is obsessed with him and he wanted me to make or last pedal White Stripes inspired, so I went and borrowed an White Stripes album from a friend. I like the music, so I want to listen to more.

A few people at work are big Nickelback fans. I hate them so much. I really haven't heard much of Coldplay to hate or love them so I can't give an opinion. But I'd probably lean toward dislike since I've never sought out their music because I liked it enough.

Since I've played Katamari Tribute, I've started to really like that OST (I didn't download it before, since I wanted to hear each song the first time it is ued in a level).

Here are's a playlist with some of my favourites:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... re=mh_lolz

This one got such an insanely retarded refrain voice, that I just want to make a music video for it that consist of me making insanely retarded faces:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYFJ9ChKGNs

And these two from Beatiful Katamari are such wonderful songs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAGOv_HrznE

Pure joy and happyness.

Wow, the past ~4 posts I always read "Cosplay"... just goes to show how much I like Cosplay.

I think Coldplay is too boring of a band to hate. lol

I find it hard to believe there are still Nickelback fans out there, since they're so irrelevant nowadays.

Of course, you don't have to be popular (or even alive) to have fans.

The boyfriend and I got into a light-hearted argument about the fact that I like pronouncing Hikki as "Hick-ee" because I think it's funny. Y'know, like she's named after hickies. He found it fundamentally offensive.

Thank you Turtle, I'm going to watch Hana Yori Dango again, and then watch the Korean version again, and then probably be done with it because the adaptations trim the fat off the manga. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... popper.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':popper:' />

@PQ Your pain is known. Nickelback has 1 good song. They've remade this song hundreds of times. Good on them for knowing what to do to keep a fanbase though. That's almost an art in itself. I didnt' know whether to be happy the people at work listen to rock instead of the soft listening stations, or be driven insane because all the bands sound the same. There's a lady that likes to harrass people about the artist of the song that's playing and I don't know how she does it. They're all Generic Rock Band #__. Get a dude with a husky voice, keep the instrumental minimalist until the chorus hits and it becomes a block of sound, rinse and repeat.

On a more on topic post, I got my new The Heavy album in the mail a couple of days ago. Their first album, The House That Dirt Built, was awesome. You probably heard this song on one thousand different medias, though this song is also heavily used in television. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> So I was pretty hyped for this album, especially since the lead single rocked my socks, The lead single is the only song that rocked my socks off the album. In fact, the album is radically different in tone from that single and their first album. I'm going to return to it in a week or so to see how I like it differently from lack of expectations, but as of now I am disappointed.

Flavor of Life's great, but the Kingdom Hearts songs were overrated and don't hold up today. Her older albums were more dated, but the songs were much more classic. Still, it's all better than The Workout. I dunno, I think she's an okay singer-songwriter, but her legacy and records are bigger than her talent in my eyes.

Sakura Drops and Wait & See are two good songs imho.

The ones Turtle posted I personally find uninteresting.

Close to you is also a nice song, but it's an american song and a cover, so some people might not like it just because it's not one of her Japanese songs.

Those are good songs.

The problem with Hikki is that she has distinct eras so it's possible to like one and hate the other. My two cents sample from each era:

Classic/Pop (First Love~Distance):

First Love - ballad, her huge hit, though I prefer Final Distance as a ballad. Her ballads aren't too bad.

Can You Keep A Secret?

Wait and See

Most of her others from this era (First Love album especially) are distinctly 90s R&B influenced so if you never liked that sound you won't like those songs. They're nostalgic for me.

Deep River~:

Travelling'

Sakura Drops

Ultra Blue:

This Is Love (I really loved cruising to this song for some reason. AH back when gas wasn't so effing expensive and I'm a homebody so I don't waste it going places)

I adore classic Hikki and up to Deep River, but after she took that hiatus to do the English album and her music afterwards wasn't... it just didn't have that feel. Deep River is my favorite Hikki era, but I can understand perfectly how people don't like that. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Wait and See reminded me of how badly I wanted her haircut and how no one COULD EFFING DO IT. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Album ranking:

.Deep River (I add Colors to this album because it was released around the same time, same with the theme to Casshern with the long ass title even though it's on Ultra Blue) = Distance > First Love > Ultra Blue = Heart Station
