Actually, MM was in Nagoya for the 4th and 5th for the Hello! Concerts, so she more than likely didn't get anything over the weekend. We don't know anything about how they hand over presents, so it's possible that there might be a bit of a delay before everything gets handed to her.

Regardless, I sent my first tweet to the MM manager today (Monday morning in Japan time). No response yet, but he(?) DID retweet some other group of foreign fans who made a youtube video of messages to her. I'm going to hope he's just shifting through the tweets he missed yesterday while his twitter app was apparently down and will get to us soon. It's awesome that other fans did something too and that the manager gave them some recognition, but hey! Don't play favorites Manager Person.

Oh, I honestly would expect a whole lot of noise about the gift you guys sent. SO EXCITED.

Truthfully though, if we start to see a super happy Zukki from now on, we will know the gift fulfilled its purpose. :)

Current MM manager is a woman.

I wonder If Kanon talks about your presents on the radio. However, you shouldn't expect her to do that. Because I guess she gets a lot of birthday presents.

More important, we enjoy the sight of her smile.

Thank you, I've always been wondering about the manager's gender. @_@

I agree, I don't actually expect to get word directly from Kanon about it. But I will look out for radio shows just in case! I do think she's started to cheer up these days, there have been some positive things from other blogs. I wish there were little digest clips of each show, it would be awesome to see her reaction to the concert hall full of green on her birthday.

It's probably too soon to ask, especially since they're touring, but any news?

I'm 100% sure that if TnB hears anything then she will go nuclear on this thread...

I'm not sure we can expect anything tbh, imagine if they did respond, now all of a sudden they have to respond to EVERYONE who sends a present regardless of value.

Still a tweet or something would be freaking awesome.

True on all counts, rob. I'm just excited and insanely hopeful we'll get a shout-out in some way. They did have acknowledge that video, though.

I think we have accepted that we won't hear anything by now, which is sad but expected.

HOWEVER I just finished watching the mezamashi live they did on August 2nd and I have to say I watched Zukki a lot, and to me it certainly seems like she is putting in WAY MORE effort than before, not only that but also enjoying the performance too.

I think the present she received has really encouraged her to do her best no matter her role in the song.

A fan who lives in Japan has apparently been translating stuff from H!O and the BBS for Japanese fans. The birthday project got mentioned.

Interesting. Anyone cares to translate the gist of what they say in the post and the comments?

It's great that the project got more exposure!

The comments to the entry are unfortunately... distressing. At least to me. One was really kind, the person said that the project made them want to cry, they were really moved by our efforts and surprised at how much people love Kanon. Another said the power of gaijin was amazing but... not exactly in a positive way? They seemed a little confused as to why we wanted to do it (they thought Kanon seems fine). Another person outright said that foreign fans were dancing around the reason why she might be sad, it was obviously her "body shape" and maybe foreigners think she looks normal since we're all fat. Another person was like "Well that's nice but if she gains any more weight..." - to which a nice person responded at length to say that not all fans care about her weight.

Kanon and I seem to be about the same size, and I don't consider myself overweight or terribly fat. That must be because all of the other foreigners around me are just sooo fat that Kanon and I seem downright anorexic! I think most people involved in this don't care why Kanon seemed down, or even if we were wrong and she was never down at all. At the very least she's one of the less popular members in Japan and one of the least pushed girls, and it's nice that we could all come together from around the world to say "Hey, we think you're awesome." Who doesn't want to be told they're awesome?

Yeah, when I read them I thought it was bullshit. Shut up wotas, if you want perfect waifu get your ass over to the 2D side. I'm guessing a considerable part of the wota's should go on a serious diet themselves before saying anything about someone else

Kanon is not fat. She just isn't. She still carries baby weight, but that is normal. She's only 14! Lots of girls don't lose all of their baby fat until years later. Men do not understand puberty in females. They just don't. It scares the hell out of some of them. Seriously. If you want to get rid of them just start a menstruation conversation. Dumb! DumbdumbdumbdumbDUMB! BAH!!

Well, Zukki is my favorite, so I'm extremely biased towards her, but my feelings are really hurt for her by some of those comments. It's just sad. She is working really hard. She came in with no experience and she has done so well.

Has anyone seen her in person and can say she isn't as big as she looks next to the other girls and in videos? Like at an event or concert or something?

It's what I like to call the Risako effect.

Anyone of a normal figure standing next to Chinami or Miyabi for long enough just starts to look fat.

Kanon isn't thin, but she's closer to thin than fat by a LOOONG way.

She just happens to stand next to rather stick thin girls most of the time.... and so you get the Risako effect.

I've notice that since most Japanese girls are super petite, Japanese beauty standards of course demand that idols be extra, extra, extra petite. But then you have girls like Maasa, Kanon, and Risako who do NOT have the super petite Asian frame you see a lot of. They have broad shoulders and are rather big boned. Since this body type is less common in east Asia, girls with a more (hate to use this word) "western" build tend to get a lot of shit because their bone structure makes them look huge next to everyone else. It happens in Korea, too. Look at Hyosung and Zinger from Secret! Netizens frequently say they're fat but I'm pretty sure they're fuckin' hot.

Image Image

Funnily enough, if you look at girls in gravure and AV, you see a lot of girls who are shaped more like Risako or Maasa and the two girls above. I think this is because I have seen a lot of asian netizens refer to this body type as "vulgar" looking. =/

VULGAR looking?! So it's better to look like a child than a woman? That's so sad. ;_; Where's the women's rights campaigners in these countries?

Remember to keep things in context here, the people saying things like that are fat, stupid wota who eat junk food every day.

In general in Japan being slim is considered being healthy, athletic etc.

The ideal is to be a virgin, shy and submissive. Doesn't really matter if you dress really sexy, as long as you behave like the ideal in interviews etc.

Luckily that ideal is changing.
