Just finished episode 4 of The Walking Dead.

It is by far the best game series of the year as far as storytelling goes. Cannot wait for the final soul-crushing episode.

Currently I am playing Pokemon Black2 and getting ready to start White2. I just finished Resident Evil 6; hated it; and KH Dream Drop Distance. I plan to Start Harvest Moon: A New Beginning when it comes out in November.

That's because you're a deviant.

Also, I totally realized the horrifying implications of Resident Evil 6 with regard to the aftermath of RE5: Umbrella apparently wiped out all black people! They could have at least given a throwaway mention to Sheva or something.

I guess I hang out with a lot of deviants, then, cause I've been mostly playing co-op with people who have been playing longer than I have and love it as much as I do!

I have become obsessed with Minecraft. I also found a awesome seed called: royalblue. There is an epic cave, with waterfalls and it breaks into little compartments! I also made it to nether, tamed some wolves and ocelots. If someone tell's me how. I'll tell you the coordinates.

This is my "castle" I've been improving on on and off since I've started in Dec 2010:

This is the village I've built (currently housing around 20 villagers), which is connected via a railway (on the left):

I've just started playing with Technic, which is an insanely huge content pack.

I finished the 2010 Aliens vs Predator game. I only did as a fanboy of the Alien universe, because as a game it was very poor. It had a few nice touches like 3 interconnected campaigns and different mechanics of the Alien and Predator gameplay. On the other hand, each campaign was only 4-5 hours long, so you could finish it in one day. Maybe I'm spoiled by routinely going over 100 hours in titles such as Fallout, but this is way below expectations. The Marine campaign was rather flat and repetitive, and the Predator one was full of pompous hunter honour bs which made it really cheesy. Ironically, the only campaign that I felt emotionally connected to in any way was the Alien one. I could immerse myself in the feeling of being a hunted test subject animal, and at the same time a part of the hive that struggles with its own personality. Yes, the Alien had the best personality and character development of all three protagonists, make of it what you wish. Sadly, the Alien campaign was also the shortest.

Perhaps it was better in multiplayer (now rather dead), but I've already written way too much about this mediocre product now past its shelf life.

Also last weekend I finally started Sleeping Dogs. I've been looking forward to this game for a long time. The shortest and quite sufficient description would be "GTA meets Infernal Affairs, the Game". And as such, it is very enjoyable. A must-have for anyone who liked the above titles, or is just into Cantonese culture, which it is full of.

Unfortunately, the fun is spoiled by two things - retarded controls in the PC version, and the difficulty level. The controls are a lazy hack of the original gamepad ones. The layout isn't good, and when the WASD-controlled game forces you to take your hand off the mouse and use the cursor arrow keys at the same time (because it's not possible to use the mouse cursor for some tasks), you know something isn't right. The responsiveness is also far from ideal. The battle system got good reviews, but in my experience it boils down to random button mashing and getting the expected result 10% of the time, because there is barely any apparent feedback between your input and the character actions. I could be in the middle of a fight, pressing buttons for strike, block, or just run, but the character just stands there for 5 seconds doing nothing. Which usually means death.

Which brings me to game difficulty. There is no difficulty setting, so you're stuck with one, probably balanced somewhere between leisure and hardcore play. But with the broken PC controls it's just way too hard. Bordering on unplayable, depending on how limited your time is. I for one have no time to replay each whole fight some 20 times just because I keep dying on the third wave of enemies. One of the early missions literally took me 2 hours for one fight, and I was pretty fed up with it at the end. This spoils the fun a lot and makes for a frustrating experience, even while I'm trying really hard to love the game. I don't want to blame it all on the controls because very likely me sucking at games in general is also a factor, but I've never had this kind of trouble with another game before. For the record, I tried playing it with a PS2 pad hooked up with a USB adapter, but it wouldn't work, and from the looks of it the pad controls are set up for an X360 pad anyway. Pretty disappointing for the first game in a long time that I bought full-price on the release day.

On the upside, the game is visually stunning and well optimized - at 1080p with all details maxed out and the hi-res texture pack it runs great on my HD7850. The storyline is also solid an engaging as long as you're able to progress through it. Perhaps those of you who play on consoles will have more fun with it out of the box. In the meantime, I'll continue to struggle, and considering my pace of playing maybe I'll see a patch to fix all of the above before I hit half the storyline. I definitely want to keep coming back to it despite all the issues.

The vast majority of new PC games, especially ones with console versions as well, are made to be played with a game pad. If you're running a Windows system, they are all mapped to use an Xbox 360 controller which can just plug right into a USB slot.

If it's made and meant to be played with a game pad, then don't give a crippled keyboard + mouse option that will only frustrate me. Or better, don't release it for PC to begin with, because I'm not willing to pay an extra $40-50 for an X360 pad just for that one odd game that can't get the controls right. There are TPP games that control perfectly fine with kb+m while having many more options, eg. WoW, so there's really no excuse.

I seem to be hating on the game a lot, but really I can't wait to play again. I guess part of me just likes to be miserable like that.

Well, Colonial Marines is out soon and that's actually supposed to be good.

But you should still get a game pad. You can get decent ones that mimic all the 360 controls for less than 20 dollars.

Some type of games are just hard to control with KB + mouse. Sleeping Dogs' is definitely not one of them. The GTAs controlled perfectly with KB + mouse, so it definitely is just lazy devs (see Dark Souls).

Did you search if there's a hack/config edit that makes the game easier to control ?

Al, I'll buy a 360 pad if I find one for $15 or less on Black Friday. And all my controlling moans are directed at Sleeping Dogs. AvP played really well and smooth, especially as Xeno or Pred.

I didn't search for any 3rd party fixes or hacks for Sleeping Dogs yet, but I definitely will be doing so. But I'll try to start with remapping the default keys to something more coherent first.

I'm pretty sure you can get a new wired 360 controller for around 20. It's the wireless ones that cost a good bit.

I'm contemplating getting Dishonored just to have something to play until Assassin's Creed 3 comes out in a couple of weeks.

I also got one.

It's certainly not the best gamepad out there (the analog sticks are quite unprecise, at least on the one that I've got), but unfortunately it became the industry standard for Windows games.

I wanted to play Lara Croft TGoL with my flatmate and the two gamepads I already had didn't work with it for some reason, so I bought one of these.

You need some powered rails (the MC wiki is pretty useful), they get their juice from some simple redstone mechanism (just a redstone torch or an "on" lever). Put them every ~20 tracks and you should be fine, having a constant speed.

Technic blows my mind, today I've built a FUCKING JETPACK:

The mechanisms on my island I've been working on are crude and ugly, I know. It's because this is my first Technic map and I'm just experimenting.

After having spent more than 3 hours (I'm not exaggerating) to get my cancerous Games for Windows Live shit running again... I've spent 5 hours playing Dark Souls without a real break.

It's so fucking good.

I had extremly high hopes and it completely fullfilled it. It's exactly the game I wanted it to be.

However, I do have to say it's not as hard as everybody says. Is it challenging ? Yes, definitely. Yet, if you act calmly and are concentrated the fighting system is perfectly fine and anything but unfair.

I did drop to my death four times already... while absolutely no enemy was around... which was stupid, but I've laughed and just went on with it !

Let me guess, you played Leon's campaign first and ruined 75% of the rest of the game for yourself?

It has easily the best story of any Resident Evil game to date and the exposition style and pacing of said story was the best of any RE game so far as long as you don't play Leon's campaign first.

They probably produce the handheld for about 50$, the joystick for 30$. The station is just a cheap video processor for about 20$.
