I agree about the text-only version. With text I can read it at my own pace, whereas with videos I find that I have to stop everything else I'm doing and give it my undivided attention.

I have an idea for a text version. I'll put together a sample of my idea and do it up tonight and see if you like it or not.

CLICK ME! And witness my craptasticness!

Okay so this took me all of 30min to complete. I just grabbed the most interesting thing I could find off the front page and slapped it together with my oh so newbie monkey like skills.

I know it's pretty plain but this was only a test.

I'm not sure if I like how fast the text moves, since I'm not sure how fast the average person reads. (I'm a speed reader.) It feels too quick.

I'd replace the music with like, an instrumental of a H!P song or something more interesting instead of white noise. I just grabbed something off the free music archive that wasn't obnoxious.

I have to say that was pretty damn amazing, the text moved a "little" too fast for me, imagine if we could do something like that for 3-5mins for all the blog highlights?

Make it so! Image

I don't mind putting together stuff, but I'm not about to sift through all those blog posts.

Why don't we do it as a group thing where we'll make a weekly thread for members to post which blog entries they think should be included and why, then use those to do whatever we're going to do with them. If a single person is going to end up writing/recording it, they can put their own spin on it, or we could leave it like "Member X found this entry to be amusing..."

Sounds like a good idea!

The video was cute, but maybe I just don't see the appeal versus a blog post of the week's highlights

Agreed, for this exact reason:

The other problem is that people can't always watch videos. I know I'm not the only person that checks this kind of stuff at work. Lots of people browse in public and/or "secretive" places where they can't play video. When I come across videos of interest at work I often forget to look at them again when I'm home. Then on top of that, people have their favorites. Let's say one week we highlight posts by Risako, Wada, and Sayumi. People who only care about Morning Musume won't want to have to sit through video about other girls to hear about Sayu. It's a lot easier/quicker to skim through text for the part relevant to your interests than video.

That all may sound incredibly lazy, but that's what the majority of the internet audience is - lazy xD

It'd be interesting if somebody read it out for you, but otherwise just having text and pictures scroll in a video makes it a useless video, since it has no advantages over the text version.

Some kind of write-up or handpicked category (maybe just tag the posts on the translation page with it) would be much better.

I don't think any amount of video skill I have could have made reading a video any more exciting.

Reading over everyone's ideas I think this would be the best solution.

Blog!Project should just have a post at the top of the page once a week titled. "Idol Weekly : Highlights you may have missed!"

We compile stuff over the week that we like, and then all those posts (or links to posts) are shoved into that page. I guess we could also add in some of our own comments as BBS members on why we thought it was worth mentioning.

If weekly is too much or too little, bi-weekly could also be an option.

I was just going to say that.

As I was reading this thread and what rob and the other's were saying one thing came to my mind and that was SMOSH Pit Weekly. While the show is just a recap of articles trending on SMOSH Pit's main website, I still couldn't help but think that this is what rob was trying to get at. With that said I'm not sure it will work or if there is an interest from the site's core readers. I think a podcast done by the editors and translators on the site would be more of an appeal then a video that points to post from someone that I may not really care to read about.

A Weekly Highlight would be a better way to start this. Get the people who do the translations to pick out something they found interesting in the blogs and maybe have them note why they picked this. You could track the page to see how many people actually use it. This way you can see if the main readers have an interest. If so then maybe a podcast and a video would be a next step towards making the site more interactive.

Considering it has been agreed on to change this idea into a best of weekly type thing, can anyone make a new thread for it?

I would go ahead and do this myself, but I think we need someone who has a little more style with their writing composition, I've noticed quite a few times people seem very confused after I type a message.

We need SOMEONE to be in charge of this best of and to write it up once a week.

Volunteers!
