Maki may have not been BEST THING EVER but she was FAR better than any of the other competition that MM has presented for her. I personally liked Iida and Niigaki's voices more than anyone else in MM history, but I'll even admit they had their little weak points when it came to singing, and Maki was much more well-rounded, and if nothing else, she was able to uphold one of the most successful solo careers in H!P history largely because her voice suited being solo better than a vast majority of other members. Fujimoto was pretty good, but she had a pretty glaring weakness in controlling the volume of her voice, though it was a bit of a charm point.

I think most of Maki's greatness as a singer happened after MM. The songs MM sang while she was in the group weren't exactly vocally challenging. I think it would be hard to point to any one girl from that era as amazing based solely on MM songs. Once she went solo she was presented with a lot more opportunities to show off what she could do, especially once she got older and her voice matured.

But she was concurrently a solo artist as well as in MM for a year and a half, and her voice was pretty damn good on the solo releases as well as most of the solo lines she did in MM during that time. She also did FS3 right at the end of her run with MM as well, which I think was her most shining moment in her whole career.



I can agree that her early stuff with MM really didn't show any kind of power (LOVE Machine, Dance Site, RR21) but once they got into The Peace, Mr. Moonlight, Do It Now, etc. her voice stood out quite a bit.

I always liked Yuko's singing the most back then.



Eventhough some here react as if, I'm not saying I hated hearing Maki sing. Certainly not. I love Queen bee (where her voice fits perfectly) and her live of Kekkon shiyouyo with Miki.

Just, during MM I never noticed her that much.

Also Maki was much more successful before the boobs. Her huge insurgence of popularity happened when she was a flat chested 13 year old.

I'm sorry guys, but this is going to happen. Or if anything, it's going to be the Riho show for several years. I used to think I loved her voice, but with all of the more "mature" sounding voices gone, I've recently found her to be rather annoying. I just want this lineup to grow up already!
