I Got a Boy MV

This is literally the worst song I have ever heard. Taeyeon looks like a rat, Yoona looks like an alligator, Yuri looks like a man. There is nothing redeeming about this, all I can do is laugh.
Why do you even come to the SNSD thread anymore, if all you do is constantly shit all over them except for your favourite member ?

We get it, you can't fucking stand most of the girls and apparently hate them.

Might as well just stop caring, instead of making ridiculous allegories.

This song is so much more interesting in every single aspect than the boring crapfest that Flower Power was.

I'm really digging the styling and the choreography. Even Hyoyeon's looking cool.

I don't yet have an opinion on the song, since, as always with such songs, I feel it'd be better to split them up into two songs.

It's certainly more interesting than the half-assed electro Flower Power thing.
EDIT 2: This edited version (not mine) flows a lot more smoothly. Note how it brings in the "Oh, oh oh eh oh" motive relatively quickly after the tempo change to help connect the two halves better.

I also like this version better, though I can't quite put my finger on it what the differences are (except for the long intro being cut away).

I feel like they couldn't think of a sound for this single and instead just thew like, 2-3 songs together with a great idea that it's all these different songs blending together into this mix medley that eventually work into one song. It doesn't really work as well as I think they thought it would. It's not something I think will ever be crossing my playlist, ever. It's just too jarring. They can do better then this.

She has a right to say whatever she wants, as do any of us. Just because you don't agree with her disappointment doesn't mean its wrong or invalid, it seems you're just like most idol fans and can't stand people saying anything negative about groups you like. People can't so easily just "drop" one of their favorite groups out of nowhere and "stop caring." Especially when they've been a big part of your life for a while, you don't just drop them, you still have hope that they might do something good again. Hell, I haven't liked anything that MM has done since 2009, but I still listen to their new stuff in hopes that they might come back, and still to no avail, 4 years later.

I also agree this new song and album are total shit, unfortunately. The song especially, but the album tracks are all just absolute Kpop album filler that I completely expect and have heard on just about every other Kpop album ever. Its kinda sad cause I actually did like a few tracks off of The Boys a LOT, but this is all dreck. I wonder how long it'll be until Kpop subsides back into its niche in Korea since their biggest players aren't doing too hot in Japan anymore and the fad has passed.

I expected something like that as a reply from her.

But when I saw in the board index you replied, I knew you were going to give me this crap. As you pointed out, I can just as well say "I'm also allowed to say whatever I want and in this case, I'm calling her out" - you see, it's an argument that is completely useless. Of course she can write whatever she wants, but that doesn't mean I can't critize her for it. People can also critize me for being a bitch and that is perfectly fine. This should really go without saying.

Please go read her posts in this thread, before you just barge in. There's a difference between making a bit fun of a member here and there you don't like and constantly shitting all over most of the group.

I got the impression that whenever something new from SNSD comes out, she's just repeating "why are these girls so goddamned ugly, I hate them, they're not Wonder Girls, I'm just laughing at them etc." and I'm asking myself, what's the point ? It seems to me that she likes it, when SNSD flops.

If you or anybody else thinks that is truly not the case, then that's also fine to point out.

I don't think there's a problem with negativity, but it does get tiring when people turn into broken records when they don't like something.

Sure you would expect it from her, but since I get the same shit, all the time, almost everywhere in the idol communities I frequent, I figured I would reply, and I wanted to say something about the new album as well.

Is it inconceivable that someone is just genuinely and repeatedly disappointed with the direction and output of a group and feels like voicing it? You can debate all day about what the real intent of the posts is, but personally (and it may apply to Molly as well) I post these things because disappointment is hard to keep inside with stuff that you have loved in the past and it's nice to get it out there. Its not to shit all over people who like the things you're disappointed in, just to express your opinion. You don't have to take it personal every time someone doesn't like something that you like, even if they state it multiple times. If they were pointing at you and calling you out while talking negatively about something, that's a different story. It lets you clarify and express the feelings you have about this stuff and if you really look at it the right way, it just expresses the desire to enjoy and care for the artist again, despite being frequently disappointed. The relationships people have with their favorite idols is often like the relationship to a friend in some respects, and you don't want to give up on your friends that easily.

The thing is, she never made the impression to me she actually likes the group.

Before making the previous post, I even went back through the whole thread and looked at her posts, just so I'm not remembering it wrong.

She totally doesn't seem to me as somebody who once was in love with all of SNSD, but then became disappointed/less interested (like we were with MM to various degrees). She seems like somebody who genuinly hates most of the girls in the group and I have to ask what's the point of constantly calling them ugly, untalented and what not in such ridiculous ways.

I do not see it as the same thing as you (and me to a lesser degree) starting to dislike the MM trends in the past years.

Actually I love most of the group. I've even paid live to see them before. Just because I don't like your favorite member doesn't mean I hate the group. I actually had high hopes for this album, because I've really liked their Japanese stuff, and then they put out this giant clusterfuck. Granted I was also pretty drunk when I posted that, and I probably would have worded it nicer if I hadn't been.

Ok, but you are absolutely not giving off that vibe.

And don't play this off as if you're only hating (dislike is too tame of a word) on Taeyeon. Tiffany, Yoona and Yuri are others you said ludicrous things about.

But I don't hate them. I know I don't and I won't let you tell me I do. Do I like them? Not one bit. But I don't waste my time hating someone.

I'm sorry if you don't think I'm a fan of the group, but I am. I realize it doesn't show much on this board, because most of the time that I'm talking about them, it's not here. It's usually on twitter, or tumblr (where y'know I have a blog dedicated to them). I know I came off harsh, and have in the past. And I'll make more of an effort to not be a bitch.

Random comment: if Tiffany wants to be one of their top vocalists, then she needs to be able to not rely on a backtrack all the time. It already bothered me in the TTS performances, but hey, in Twinkle they were dancing and the ballads were relatively difficult, so maybe you could forgive her on that one. But she even used a backtrack for "Lost in Love" on MBC, and that really detracted from the performance. There's just two of them standing there singing a simple ballad with mics; there shouldn't be any breathing or volume issues in that setup. It almost seems as if SM is pushing her as vocal #2 behind Taeyeon, but ... no. Lovely voice, but it's a shame that the skills don't quite match up to it.

Random comment 2: At this point she is the only thing keeping me in the fandom, so it is with trepidation that I note that Taeyeon's upper lip looks swollen in recent photos and in the MBC special. I hope this is something temporary. I decided I don't care all that much about celebrities and invasive cosmetic procedures, but I wish they'd at least take care of all that stuff before debut. Once you get to know a face, it's disconcerting when it suddenly changes, and often for the worse to boot. Hyoyeon randomly sprouted a pair of duck lips some months ago (I think) and it looked absolutely dreadful.

Classy.

The pink room scenes seem like exaggerations from the style in Oh! and I feel like it's a bit too thick.

Seeing the Dancing Queen video is a bit surprising in contrast, since the group has changed so much. Not sure how I feel about that either, since it was a brief glimpse at the group I originally signed up for.

It's strange, though, that they would release that and I've Got A Boy together to create such sharp contrast. Why are they re-affirming that their image has changed? It's not like the public need reminders. It happened a long time ago in both Korea and Japan. We know.

Oh well! Better than Flower Power.

During those city scenes, I keep expecting some stranger to come up to them and ask...

Sunny that hair.

Am I the only person who thinks this song is okay?

It's not one of their best songs, but it's not torture to listen to.

It's weird... and it sounds like a medley.

But the meaning of the lyrics is really good :D

The non-rap parts have potential, and they're not as despair-inducingly disparate and incompatible as many commenters claim; I just don't think they're put together in a good way. There are 4 complete stops in the music where it transitions (3 if you remove the rap intro), and that is about 3-4 times too many.

I see what you mean, it feels like the songwriters had problems to finish 3-4 songs and they thought "Oh let's mix them together!"

But I still don't see the horrible thing with the song, I find it okay xD

Well, apparently the vastly differing sounds were intentional in order to differentiate the voices in the lyrics. I still found the lyrics really inane, frankly, but I see what they were attempting.

It still sounds like a hot mess.

Holy shit, 4:09 ass distracted me from all else.

And hey, I really like it! It's very different for SNSD but thank god it doesn't sound all cutsy like Oh! I never listen to Kpop teasers because they suck so hard at actually previewing the song, but I was still worried after the second one. I'm glad I read all the negative stuff before listening or else I might've hated it too.

But why is Hyoyeon the only one with a negative scene with her guy? Blegh.

Allkpop reviewed the album as well

I know we're all entitled to our own opinions but:

"It is without a doubt the strongest release by Girls’ Generation—and perhaps in all of K-Pop—to date."

Ignoring the in all of kpop part, I can think of several other SNSD releases that would beg to differ.

Yeah, I kind of felt that review lacked credibility, so I didn't consider it noteworthy enough to link. There are a few brief items in other Western media that are collected in an akp forum thread.

Mainstream reviewers also get paid to speak well of things by entertainment companies, and I've heard a lot of stories about Korean companies doing just that all over the world. What do the reviewers really have to lose? They're already mainstream music reviewers which is like being a reviewer for silent films nowadays. No one is going to buy or not buy something based on a mainstream review of it in this age when we can listen to previews of anything that exists in about 5 seconds and judge it for ourselves (and that's for the small percentage of people who actually buy music period.) Also, reading a review from a site that blindly perpetuates the success and wonderfulness of the industry in which said artist is a forerunner of is equally as inane and inconsequential.
