H!P Remixes

Post by Kaworu »

I think this is a good idea for a topic!

Do you guys listen to H!P remixes online? There's a bunch of really talented people playing with the tracks and making amazing stuff.

I recommend this guy a lot! https://soundcloud.com/djchuenremix

Berryz - WANT

I like this mix way better than the original, for example.

EASILY the best and most listenable Morning Musume remix ever. It trumps the original song in every way without sounding too remix-y or incoherent:

I actually know DJ Amaya from another board and he's a cool guy, I just unfortunately don't really like his remixes except the Babymetal one He makes just about everything sound like an early 2000s generic techno song and usually changes or ignores a bit too much of the composition for me.

I've been remixing idol songs myself for about 10 years (largely H!P) with lots of different styles and to varying degrees of success (I wasn't too good at music production for my first few mixes ,) and have posted them all here throughout the years, but you can look through most of them on my YouTube page:

My Idol Remix/Cover Playlist

Back in the days when I listened to lots of H!P mixes (same with a lot of people here) they weren't on YouTube or anything, just mp3s, and most of them don't have active uploads anymore or YouTube links, but there were some great mixers back on the scene in the early/mid 2000s that I would share here, but I won't go through the trouble of uploading a lot of them.

I'm interested to see what other stuff people post here and if I've missed out on any good ones over the last few years somehow.

Lol I was waiting for you to post in this thread. I felt weird giving you a promo when you post on this board yourself. I definitely like your stuff better than DJ Amaya, just don't tell him!

Aww, thanks <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I also just listened through that DJ Chuen stuff, it was all really noisy bass remixes and really quite the opposite of what I enjoy. I like Amaya's stuff much more than his, since at least he leans more towards the trance/laid back side of techno, where Chuen seems to go balls-out hardcore dance techno, and it sounds ugly to me.

I love bass so Chuen hits the spot for me.

I remember that big set of metal/guitar remixes back in the day. Evil morning if my memory still works at all. Those were awesome!

*goes to google*

EDIT

Came back!

I haven't done an H!P remix in so long that I didn't want to be the first to say that exact same thing

I did two exceptionally bad H!P remixes about 6 years ago: Egao YES Nude and T&C Bomber's Uchuu De La Ta Ta. I don't seem to have the MP3s anymore and I never streamed them online. I originally uploaded them here, so some of y'all still might still have it. They were bad and I am generally the first handful of people to acknowledge that, but they ended up really helping me make bad music and improve my game. Now, I make music as part of my full-time job (and sometimes it's actually for my job!) and I don't know if I'd be here without any of those very very bad remixes.

I need to do a new H!P remix, but I just don't keep up as much anymore. Not to mention that I haven't had Utagoe in a really long time.

LOL, glad someone else agrees, its nice to see people being honest. Most comments I see about his stuff are just about how amazing his stuff is, but then again, most people are afraid to voice dislike for things unless someone else did it first, so most people who don't like it usually just don't say anything. I'm more of a firm believer in getting and giving honest constructive criticism instead of shying away from criticism altogether. I've told him directly a few times that I'm not a big fan of most of his stuff, and he's cool about it, and I have major respect for that. If you think some of my stuff is crap, that's fine with me. I've actually had a few Japanese wota dislike some of the stuff I did, apparently, and that's fine with me, and I think they have pretty different standards for this kind of stuff (though, oddly, the majority of Japanese fanmixes I hear sound terrible to me..) A lot of them might just hate the idea that an American is remixing music by their precious idols. Cause, you know, idols are owned by their wota fans and all.. #RacismExistsInJapan

I kinda remember these, but not too well. We had a few other remixers here too, though I don't remember their names besides Surasshu and JPope. Jpope does still hang around here a bit and I still know Surasshu on Xbox, lol. We used to have the site "Astrobox.org" where the overseas remix community came together with our guy Chancha (who used to be big on this site and in the community) but he kinda disappeared in the mid 2000s.

I still have Utagoe, and it still works damn good for most things as long as you have the full, uncompressed .wav for the songs!
