Too tired to do it myself, but I've been watching my brother play through Revengance today, and so far it looks fuuuun. I hope to play it soon. EVERY enemy is SO freaking hard though! Not that I don't like the challenge (it's rewarding and fun to finally beat them), but I'm just honestly surprised every encounter is so hard. Especially when the story made a point in the beginning of saying Raiden was awesome, upgraded, technologically better than the other cyborgs, blah blah.

Is he using blade mode a lot? You really have to use your attack buttons to weaken your enemies before slicing them. Usually the game goes slow-mo for a second or their body part will turn blue. And you've got to do Zendatsus to refill your health (though boss battles usually have health items littered around).

In the GiantBomb quick look they noted that it's rather easy. hah

That's really surprising. The only other game I've had trouble with on Hard difficulty is Crisis Core. Never finished it, too lazy to start over on Normal. Revengance easily ranks right up there with it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hatthe.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' />

I think he relies on Blade Mode more than I do/would, but he does a good amount of normal attacks to weaken them first too. His problem is just getting hit and... well, dying. Again though, it's on Hard so I dunno if that makes any difference. I figure if you've got the right system down, the difficulty shouldn't matter.

What the flying fuck was Square-Enix thinking.

Nearly everybody showed some nice and cool stuff and they showed a tech demo that they've already showed SEVERAL months ago.

I really didn't think that was possible, but they just outdid themselves once again at being a shadow of their former self.

Apart from that, PS4 might be cool and if those supposedly live played and realtime demos were actually live and rendered in realtime, then Nintendo will again be a generation behind hardware-wise.

But most importantly 8GB of RAM, ugh, that was so much needed, more than anything else. The 256/512 MB the current ones have is absolutely disgusting. Eventhough it's funny how they constantly pointed out "super PC hardware", eventhough that of course only means castrated PC hardware (e.g. a console doesn't need to calculate stuff in Excel), it's good they're not using some ultra-prorietary shit like the Cell that nobody cares about to actually learn how to code for. But a 64x based CPU should have really been used.

I can't believe how close the leaked shit actually was and the controller was actually that one.

Couldn't care less about some fucking touchpad on a controller of course.

It might however cost a lot, depending on the actual CPU, GPU and HDD used.

What I'd love to see was PS3 backwards compability with native 1080p rendering of those games, then I'd instantly buy it and wouldn't even care that much about the rest. Just, keep your gross "social media" bullshit out of my face.

But no The Last Guardian, mang...

It's really good and has a lot more polish than the demo. One thing I've noticed is that, for an action game, it's got some good depth and story, but, for a Kojima-attached game, the polish is so weak.
It feels almost the same as the demo, I don't notice any differences and I'm half way through the game, there's just more hidden items and VR Mission terminals which I think they just purposely took out of the demo.

I wish there was an even higher standard for a game in this universe, but this is a not-perfect gem in a sea of absolute horseshit.
What does this even mean? Are you trying to be haughty about action games? I had a fear that a bunch of people would say this game was amazing just because its part of the MG universe when they don't actually appreciate action games. I hope you're not proving my fear true.

Also, hoooooooly shit, this game has a motherfucking Jar Jar Binks. Hope that little fucker dies or gets lost or something.
Are you talking about George? He's in the game for about 5 minutes total, and he has a Guyana accent, he just sounds Jamaican, not like a blathering retard.

Especially when the story made a point in the beginning of saying Raiden was awesome, upgraded, technologically better than the other cyborgs, blah blah.
Well, you're not as strong in the first mission as you become later on, and of course, how "advanced" he is kinda comes down to how well you understand the combat system. Its a little hard to get used to at first, but once you get down the nuances of the combat, this is enjoyable as they come. It really does become somewhat easy on normal/easy modes once you master the combat, especially compared to things like the Ninja Gaiden games, but I'll be moving on to the higher difficulties really soon, which is usually where these games start to really shine and show their true colors of difficulty. Doing stealth in this game is like poetry in motion, its fucking fantastic. Some encounters are forced, but you can weasel your way out of a lot of them with stealth.

They've released articles since the conference, apparently confirming no PS3 backwards compatibility and also confirming that PSN titles from PS3 will not carry over to PS4. They gotta keep those PS3 sales rolling in, right? That's a smart business decision (sic)

I tried not talking too much about other action games like this because I don't play the genre a lot because I'm not generally interested in them. My point was that Rising was above my expectations for a game of the genre, but it's not as polished as I think a Metal Gear game should be. Though, haughty or not (and I wasn't trying to be), that's my opinion. And I brought up George because we stopped our gameplay session not long after we met him, so I wasn't really sure how long he's around. I know it's a real accent/language/whatever, but i was trying to be light-hearted about it.

I kinda get all that, I'm just wondering exactly what you consider to be "absolute horseshit" from your statement. I'm sure we have pretty differing opinions on this, since you said you don't generally enjoy them, but there hasn't been a lot of horseshit from the genre in recent years, really. The Japanese developers are still on top of their game, even if they've fallen behind in a lot of other genres.

I figured you were just being goofy about the George thing, but he's definitely not a main part of the story, just a representation for Raiden's cause when they're first trying to establish that in the story.

Absolute horse-shit was kind of harsh, I suppose <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' /> But my perspective is for every Bayonetta, there's 10 NeverDeads, and when I do find a game I like (like Nier), it's just alright. Rising actually interested me partially because it's Metal Gear, partially because the mechanic is (and looked) fun. What would recommend for good, out-of-the-box action games?

Well, Bayonetta was great for sure, but Platinum Games' other major action title Vanquish was rather good, but its more of a shooter, not a hack and slash. As far as hack and slash, Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3) and Ninja Gaiden 2 (360, because Sigma 2 is a disgrace) are very good if you're up for the very steep learning curve and pretty high difficulty in general (very rewarding,) those games are basically the precursor to Revengeance in just about every way. Devil May Cry 4 is easily the best in the series, but has a similarly difficult learning curve and difficulty. Afro Samurai was also extremely well done, despite being based on an anime. Lollipop Chainsaw was rather well done (and fucking hilarious,) though not quite the caliber of the others I mentioned, it still stands above most others.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was well done, but it is what I may call a borderline of the genre, since its basically a God of War clone, which some will call a hack and slash, some put it in its own genre, since combat isn't terribly deep compared to a lot of action games. And, you know, you use a whip.

I end up enjoying a vast majority of hack and slash games I play, its just really my type of game, so there were some other ones that I personally enjoyed, but as far as ones that I'd say hold a high standard for quality, those would be it for ones of recent years.

Darksiders I & II are great, if you want something a bit more into the Zelda direction of overworld, dungeons etc.

The fighting system is very much like God of War.

I thought about that, but its definitely another borderliner. Lots of people are adamant that GoW clones are not hack and slash, and I kinda agree, but I digress. I did enjoy Darksiders 1, aside from a few really irritating puzzles, but I was pretty disappointed by Darksiders 2. Neither of them are anywhere near the other games I mentioned, but may be interesting to some people who are really into 3D Zelda games. Its kinda like a 3D Zelda game if it had lots of profanity, gore, and adult themes.

Because it was the last FF made by Hironobu Sakaguchi (who wrote the storylines from FFI-FFX) before he left Square and founded his own company.

The guy who replaced him has yet to make a good FF and I want him fired and kicked in the face. 13 partially pardons him, but not good enough.

X does have the best fighting system but since it just felt like playing a really long, boring, movie, and because of the stupid ass cloister of trials, it can go fuck itself. It will probably be the only FF I only played once.

I got stuck in XII due to a not leveling up early on issue, but I liked what I played of it. Mainly because it was in Ivalice and I love the tactics games.

Ryan is so stupid at FFVII that I may be bad and start a double life that involves playing it a sixth time myself when no one is around. With like a memory card I keep hidden. But really I should play one of the 145 other games I've never beaten...

I don't remember those trials anymore, had to google what it was.

As with every FF I've bought, I've also bought the walkthrough book, since I love browsing game data and shit.

So I guess I didn't see them as a big problem because of having the book, but I really don't remember at all if I've had to use it there.

We've already discussed FF12 before and everybody had very extreme standpoints about it. Especially me. hah

I have to say FFs are the only games after the SNES era that I've had books for (PAL SNES RPGs often came with them). I think I also had one for OoT, but that's about it.

I hate the idea of having a walkthrough just because I'm afraid I'll miss on the gaming experience having everything already laid out for me. I dunno if I've said this already though. I'm very anti-walkthrough but I must've gotten old or something 'cause I've been using online walkthroughs a TON for Tales of Graces. IT ALL STARTED WITH THIS STUPID PUZZLE IN SOME RUINS. ;-; Then I just started getting lazy, lol.

I HAAAAAAAAAATED the cloisters. The only thing that got me through them was borrowing a friend's book. I don't mind buying the books if I'm trying to achieve 100% completion when available, or if I've already beaten it once.

That said, I'm not really looking forward to them one bit. Besaid and Kilika weren't terrible but I distinctly remember being stuck in one of the later ones with snow so I'm not even going to waste time trying it for myself again after 10 years.

I am in total concurrence with Ap - the CTB was one of the best battle systems of any FF game. I like to strategize my battles and it helps to have the attack order laid right out in front of me. I wish it had been used in other FF games. While I did play and beat 13-2, I don't think I'll ever get fully used to the new ATB system or their leveling up. Pretty sure I screwed my characters over when I leveled up in that game. Why couldn't it have been the sphere grid? (>_<)

X is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games, second to VI. I will never stop loving Rikku, and I still have my figure collection <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... R#>/8o.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8o' />

Finished Metal Gear Rising: Revengance earlier. I've known from early on that the gameplay is fantastic, but the story is the point of contention. Unlike the MGS missions, MGR is (aptly) a story of revenge...ance. The stakes are high (relatively low in the Metal Gear universe. I reckon), but I just don't feel a grandiose narrative. Considering we finished the run in just under 5 hours, I didn't expect a lot of twists, but it feels thin. The bad guys are motivated--sure--but they're very modern villains. They want money and political power, not a warriors' paradise or world control. Story talk: In a universe that uses nanomachines as rationale, having the big bad explaining his wildly unexpected strength and power by shouting "nanomachines" is extremely obtuse and intentionally lazy because at no point is this character expanded to a satisfying level. In fact, all of the Winds of Destruction are shallow characters. They're cool Metal Gear villains and wholly dispensable, I bet codec conversations flush out all of the above, but the last thing I want to do is destroy the breakneck pace. As for the ending, it's okay. The Metal Gear is absolutely out of left field as is its location in an underground Pakistan fire factory and that Raiden can take such an immense, prolonged beating is almost as outside of my suspension of disbelief as much as a magical sword that is somehow better than Raiden's useless one. Also, I hate the injection of 9/11. Not that Metal Gear games haven't referred to real events, but its use is just poor. Still, it's not the global conspiracy Metal Gears usually spin, but you'll have fun.

Also, I ran through Unfinished Swan yesterday. It's cute and mildly trippy. There are a lot of gameplay themes and none of them are played too long. It's cute and that's the long and short of it, so if you can grab it for cheap, give it a whirl. It's a little bit more than the all-white world of the trailer.

Finished the Honest Hearts add-on (second out of four). Also hit level 50 in the process. It was simpler and shorter than Dead Money, and perhaps with less depth to it, but it was much less tedious too, so I guess it evens out. I enjoyed the setting much more too.

I want to free up my time to play other games finally, but at the same time my life will feel so empty when I finish New Vegas too. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I hope you got the level rescale/uncap mod that makes the later levels longer to get, but also removes the cap.

Because that way, the fun never ends !

Nope, I'm playing pretty much vanilla version, apart from hi-res texture pack and weather mod. I don't want to mess with the gameplay on my first playthrough, but considering I'm nearing 250 hours on that first playthrough there may not be another one...
