Okay, I'm a little late to the party, but I finished watching all 120 hours of The West Wing earlier today. I've been tackling the show the past 5 weeks or so since I finished watching House of Cards. There are literally too many things to talk about, but, in broad terms, I liked the show, especially the first seasons, but they did a lot of stuff later to keep it more interesting. I would've liked to have seen the live presidential debate. CJ getting together with (person) at the very end was so touching and hit home.

Now I need a new show to hold me over until Arrested Development <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /noway.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

But hopefully that means season three will pop up on Netflix soon so I can have Ryan caught up before the next season starts!

I normally don't watch the show, but since I happened to watch the premiere at the in-laws, I decided to watch the season finale of the Biggest Loser, and HOT DAMN these people lost crazy, crazy amounts of weight in only two months! I know some of the ways they do so aren't the healthiest, but these weights were unhealthy in general. I didn't see what these people went through to get their weight down 25%+ but at least two of these girls weigh less than me. Most everyone looks amazing too.

It's probably been mentioned earlier in this thread, but does anyone watch Dexter? I actually started it in Japan because I had this super cool CRIME DRAMA channel, but then I got back and didn't have showtime so I got behind. ANyway, since I moved in with Ryan we've been borrowing them from the library but it's been a slow process up until now. But within the past like...three weeks...we killed seasons 4 and 5. And so far 4 is probably my favorite season, and 5 is the absolute worst. I want to know everyone else's opinions.

Our goal is to finish the next two before the new season starts the end of June but the next season we need is missing from the library so we're going to have to go the slow route of one disc at a time from Netflix. :(

Yes, been watching since the beginning.

Season 4 was a masterpiece. I might even go as far as calling it the best season of any 2000s TV show.

Season 5 was a letdown, but how could it not have been one, after such a great season ?

Season 6 was OK, nothing too spectacular, but at least entertaining. However, it somehow felt redundant in the end.

I have not yet seen much of season 7, eventhough I have most of the episodes on my HDD, but it does have a promising premise.

Game of Thrones, Charles Dance is a God among actors.

I said GODDAMN during his scene. UNF. He nails it perfectly. I want to write him a love letter telling him how perfect he is. That scene sizzled!

Oh, and can we get the whores out of my precious screentime, please? They're not even naked anymore so their only point of being there is gone. Their scene was useless and awkwardly acted. Come the fuck on, who the fuck doesn't get that Littlefinger isn't trustworthy, especially after a scene where we know he lied to her? After he spent last season lying? ARGH.

YOU KNOW NOTHING JON SNOW!

Oh, and I dropped the Walking Dead a long time ago, but reading the reactions on the shitty finale has given me life.

The Walking Dead had the BEST finale ever!!! They finally killed off that useless and complete bastardization of a comic character!

And the only thing wrong with that episode of Game of Thrones was no Arya... <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Game of Thrones I'm not caught up with...only the first three episodes of season 2 so far. But goddammit I had a dirty dream about Theon Greyjoy and I don't find him the slightest bit attractive

Mad Men starts up again tonight. Who's watching? Hopefully Ryan will be home from work in time to watch the second airing of it.

Yay! This is the first time I'm actually caught up to the current season! I started watching it when season 2 was airing and just never caught up completely.

I just watched the first two episodes of Bates Motel. I like it so far, but disliked Norma Bates after the first five minutes. I guess that just means Vera is doing her job well. Norman Bates is one of my favorite characters ever so I am enjoying this prequel, even if it is in a modern setting. It's just freaking me out that this teenage Norman Bates is the Charlie Bucket from the remake of Willy Wonka.

Star...I was your age when that happened! I had used a review of Pokemon before it's release in America as a current event article for social studies, and I was like OMG so cute, I can't wait for this to come out in America! Then THAT incident happened, and I did another current event article about that and was sad that it would probably never be released here as a result...but next year it was! Fifteen years later and it's still one of my favorite series. :) When I was on JET I would come home every day after school and watch the first season of Pokemon in Japanese!

[/quote]

Are you guys (you and Star) watching the current season at all (Pokemon Black and White Adventures in Unova)? I was enjoying it until they got into the tournament three or four weeks ago. It's exciting and action-packed and all, but I tend to prefer the episodes that are more character-oriented where they travel and meet people and learn life lessons and all. Also, I've noticed something this season. The new Pokemon are getting more brutal. One was described as a "cruel Pokemon" and the Hi-Dragon in this past Saturday's episode was described as considering anything that moved to be an opponent and "viciously attacking" with its three heads. The Poke-dex is constantly using adjectives that imply violent, aggressive behavior.

I watched the Dragonball Z/Toriko/One Piece crossover. I've never even heard of Toriko, and I don't really like One Piece, but I was fangirling over everything DBZ, especially the tournament announcer. I even said Kamehameha along with Goku all three times and held out my hands to the screen for the Spirit Bomb. Toddler Marron was freaking adorable.

After being enthralled with Netflix's House of Cards, I felt like I needed to give their next original series a once-over. Enter Hemlock Grove aka the show between House of Cards and Arrested Development. It's sold as a Twin Peaks meets Supernatural/Twilight fantasy crime drama executive produced by Eli Roth. Hemlock succeeds and fails in a bounty of mediocrity and stereotype. Spoiler-free review: it's a teen fantasy drama, but even at that standard, it's just weak. No one really cares about the murders or the somehow common-place, visibly abnormal people. The acting is generally poor. Peter is okay, but Roman is so Swedish, he shits gummy fish. Olivia has an interesting British accent despite her character not ever beng from England. The writing is really out of touch with teens and the cinematography is sub-par too. I could (and will below) go on about any number of specific bad points, but it's kind of an interesting ride. That said, the destination is underwhelming.

(spoilers below)

[spoiler2]

What universe does Hemlock occupy? It's set in the sleepy Pennsylvania town of Hemlock Grove, but it's a place where the supernatural is widely accepted. The city sits in the shadow of a towering biomedical research tower (a company that, at some point, pivoted from doing steel work and couldn't possibly do both at the same time?) that so obviously is up to shady shit. The Godfrey Institute is a pile of money sitting in a tower that doesn't do anything, it would seem. It only appears to be worked by a B.D. Wong impersonator who is constantly busy with his own underwhelming project. By the way, in a town where monstrous girls, werewolf attacks, and (surprise!) vampires are normal, how the hell is growing a human in a box creepy? We do that shit in real life.

Moving on, let's talk about Detective Fish and Wildlife. She's insanely problematic for a number of reasons. a) She doesn't do anything. Her sole impressions on the plot include her shooting someone who doesn't die from being shot in the heart and creating an alibi for Peter that she would not live to see because she got Peter and locked him away and kind of half-solved that issue. b) Who gives a fuck about her brother? Jesus, no one cares about his revenge story. Whoopdi-fucking-doo. c) So, a church runs the Federal Fish and Wildlife Department so they can hunt werewolfs and vampires to appease god? Someone thought this was a good shadow organization?

Clearly, there is not distinction between a rumor going around that you're a werewolf and being teasingly called a werewolf. This show is supposed to be 2013 America, but the townsfolk turn on Peter being a werewolf despite not having any evidence whatsoever of it being true. And then the people who know he's a werewolf don't want him dead because...America? This isn't racial profiling, it's a mythical beast that feasts on flesh. Granted, despite turning three times in the show, Peter does jack-all when he actually is a werewolf, so maybe he can have his birth-right.

Also, what the fuck? How is it that neither of the Pretty Boys kills the murderous (rather prudish) werewolf? Hell, the only thing in the show that makes sense is that Shelly should take the fall for everything, and even that flies directly in the face of good story-telling. Speaking of the end, what the flying fuck? Why are they vampires? At no point is "vampires" the answer to anything, even in Olivia's backstory.

So what does Hemlock do right? It's a decent show half the time is you watch it on mute It handles tension and pacing decently. Part of the draw of distribution through Netflix over TV is that you shouldn't need to tell people what happened previosuly because they'll have already watched everything up to that point, but the story is convoluted (not subtle) and so accepting of crazy that you need the flashbacks peppered in. Nearly every character is terrible, so when almost all of them die, it's a net positive? It's kind of interesting. There's just enough raw material in there for characters you can relate to and a story you can be surprised by, even if none of it is executed very well.[/spoiler2]

I also bought the first season of HBO's Veep on Amazon Instant and I liked it. It's funny and witty and not bogged down in realism or tact. Dreyfus and the cast are really funny and witty. Check it out.

Of course, I'm that doucher who had already pirated the first 3 episodes when they came out. Of an 8 episode run. That I paid $20 for. So, go me.

Ahahahaha!

I genuinely enjoy Charles Dance (Tywin) shredding everyone he interacts with to pieces. I cheer when he's onscreen because he's always pitch perfect. Give that man an emmy! I think Coneth Hill (Varys) deserves an emmy too. Hell, I'd award the entire cast aside from the two whores (Ros and Shae. Good God Shae is bad. It's worse because Tyrion is in the top tier of actrors on the show and it just magnifies the crappiness of her acting)

And I am glad that Jon Snow finally is doing more than "say something ->called an idiot, threatened->whine->YOU KNOW NOTHING JON SNOW"
