My package from CDJapan came today with the H!P Winter concert Blu-ray, the MM Fall 2012 concert and C-ute's latest Cutie Circuit DVD. Normally when I order 3 CDs or DVDs at a time, they come in a package that will fit into my mailbox. Not anymore. This package which arrived today was too big and I had to go to the district post office--three subway stops away--to pick it up. Same with my last order from CDJapan.

Here's the new box (on the left) with a contrasting one from last year, which was smaller, which had also contained three DVDs:

Here's how much empty space there is in the box:

I emailed CDJapan about this. We'll see what they say. But for now, it means I'll have to order two things at a time and not three.

I just had a (somewhat...) similar shipping issue with CDJapan. I was going to pre-order Brainstorming/Kimi Sae along with two other CDs, and at the time Brainstorming still had the first press posters available, so the shipping would've been ~3000 yen with FedEx. I didn't want the poster that much and I figured that was what was causing the shipping to be so high (poster=bigger box=higher shipping), so I waited a few days until the poster was no longer available to make my purchase. And of course the shipping was still the same, so I decided to go with YesAsia's free shipping instead (and just got my CDs today, after having them shipped two weeks ago).

If you're paying that much for shipping, use Amazon Japan, especially when ordering their DVDs and Blu-Rays since you get a big discount. Their shipping is a bit expensive since the only option you get for overseas is express shipping, but they usually show up in a couple of days.

The problem with AmazonJP and a lot of other companies willing to ship internationally is that if they don't use EMS, they stick with FedEx, UPS, or DHL - which need to be signed for, or they have to be collected at these incredibly far-off collection centers, which is worse than going to the nearby post office. (I had to routinely make hour-long bus rides and cross railroad tracks to get to the FedEx center, since I'm car-less.)

Other than becoming really good friends with the mailroom staff, I'd suggest YesAsia as well.

Amazon Japan screwed me over when I tried to preorder a DVD from them before ( they took more money than I expected from my card and then had the nerve to say that they couldn't accept it, and I never got the money back ) so I'm kind of weary of them now.

I don't really mind EMS a lot of the time, but sometimes the having to sign for it gets annoying for both me and my dad.

I buy from CDJapan using EMS all the time and have never had issues. I just have packages sent to work instead of home so that there's guaranteed to be someone available to sign for it. I do think sometimes their boxes can be a bit oversized, but that's certainly not unique to them - I've had that issue with a ton of online retailers. It probably just has to do with whatever is easiest/cheapest for them to stock. It might also have to do with keeping your items safer. Back in the day CDJapan used to stuff CDs into really tight boxes with just tissue paper, and it caused one of my CD cases to get badly damaged when something hit the box. I complained about that, and I imagine others did too because ever since the packaging has been much better.

My last order came in green paper. I got AKB48's beginner and momoiro clover z first album. It was a small package. It was my first every purchase of a Jpop CD but I guess it has something to do with size. IDK...

I still get green paper!

One time near the holiday season I got Hanukkah paper (blue with silver stars of david). I have no idea how they found that in Japan but it was pretty great.

And THAT'S why S/mileage is awesome.

The whole series is great. The first Tsunclub has already been translated, but that's the more recent one.

Here's DVD Magazine 28, part 1.

Looks like they've only done the first disk so far.

The newer, unsubbed one is Volume 36.

Here's the response I got from CDJapan:

Thank you for your e-mail.

Thank you for shopping at CDJapan always.

I'm not quite sure why it's happened, however as you say, usually the shipping department staff use the smaller box on second picture if you buy 3 DVDs/CDs.

I guess, at that time the smaller box stock was out that moment, then they had to use another box.

Anyway we apologize you about this.

I already passed this matter to our shipping department staff to care about the package which become better fit.

Should you require any assistance, please feel free to contact us again.

Isn't that nice? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Morning Musume go on tv, do not perform Love Machine.

That was creative. They must have realized that you cannot kill the Love Machine.

Why was their appearance so short anyways? Walked in, sang, walked out.

Also, Kudo ending must be prophetic. Of something.
