Berryz performing Budokan in November

Post by AEUGNewtype »

Image

As confirmed by a couple news sources and Chinami's own Twitter, Berryz to perform at Budokan this November 29th.

Tsunku also seems to be putting a usual lame marketing/troll/drama spin on it and saying they can only perform if they "improve on some things" otherwise SharanQ will perform in their place.

Discuss! Especially C-ute fans who talk about how much better C-ute are and how they deserve things that Berryz doesn't!

As someone who likes Berryz more than C-ute, I can't say I'm disappointed. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /crazy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm sure they can handle whatever kind of work they're thrown, showrainy.

Also updated the first post with a picture and more news sources, since those always seem necessary.

I don't like the fact that Berryz always seem to live in their past glory and never really tries hard for their fan, and yet are jealous of Cute who always work their ass off. However, I can't deny the fact that Berryz' concerts are always more pleasant to the ear. Cute works hard, but most of their voices are too nasal, as they are not as vocally talented as Berryz. Cute's concerts are mostly great because of the dances (and of course, they have better songs than berryz), but I can't keep listening to them because their voices will become irritating after a few listen. So even though I don't like Berryz getting the same rewards as Cute, I gotta say, both of them deserve Budokan, one is hard-working and one is talented.

I adore Berryz since they were my first H!P love, but somehow I feel this way, too.

I think it is easier to see how much C-ute has been working since their popularity is growing. Berryz doesn't seem to have as much of a fashionable vibe to me, especially since their dances are, in general, lame compared to C-ute's.

C-ute seemed to talk more about performing in the Budokan one day than Berryz did. Perhaps that is why it seems they have worked harder?

I'm sure the Berryz girls work just as hard. Aren't many of them in uni in addition to performing?

Berryz also has Momochi. Ew.

Momoko is fine. Momochi is not.

You guys.

People don't just get handed a concert in a big venue as a nice present. If UFA didn't think Berryz could fill the seats, they wouldn't be getting a concert there. Period.

I am however disappointed in Tsunku's trolling skills. I think he's getting weak in his old age. He should have made it into a contest between the two groups where they had to campaign to get the most votes or something. Since fans seem to feel the need to always compare these two groups, there might as well be something solid to measure by.

Hell no. NO. Berryz work bloody hard and up yours. Berryz deserve it so much and saying they need to improve on things is ridiculous, maybe if they were ALLOWED TO IMPROVE. Give them good costumes and an actual chance and FOCUS on them like he does with C-ute and maybe they flippin would. They are amazing to watch, I'd love to be able to go but it's almost certainly after I am going to be there.

Yeah, seriously, I fully expected all the C-ute stan butthurt over this, but the response has been far beyond my expectations. The ignorance is astounding. Not only does UFA have to believe they could fill it to begin with, but the Budokan management and booking would as well. While Budokan isn't quite the prestigious establishment it was many years ago and have been letting a lot of smaller acts play there lately, I guarantee they're not just going to blindly engage in a business deal that would lose them money.

Turning this into a contest between the two is exactly what the stans would want, its a complete nightmare waiting to happen. We already think its bad enough with them just having announced they're both getting (fairly) equal treatment, can you even imagine the shit-slinging that would ensue if they were in an officially declared competition? No thanks. Having to put up with Airi stans all over the internet is bad enough already, I couldn't imagine it being even more cut-throat than it already is, and wouldn't want to be witness to it, in any case.

Not to take sides but Berryz is probably one of the very few H!P groups to have more promo thrown at them then any other main group. They've performed overseas more times then any other group, and they've had ties in with multiple anime series. They have NOT gotten shafted in the least. They've had strings of good songs mixed in with bad songs. Momoko, as annoying as she is, threw herself out there and realized if you want people to remember you, you better do something memorable. The girls themselves need to put themselves out there and make Japan know who they are. Management can only do SO much for them. It's up to them, with this next single to shine and make people take notice of them, any way possible.

Risako needs to break out of her shell, Maasa needs to stop the grumpy face, Chinami needs to direct that smile at some more wota and or knock Momoko down some stairs, Miyabi needs to shake some leadership skills into Saki. They need to learn to work together to improve their group and bring take their Berry sparkle! They need to learn to take some risks.

Hopefully Miyabi's new role will help bring about a change to Berryz, a good change. One that will show what they truly are made of. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes in UF. But from that first Tsunku Club DVD they put out, it's clear they aren't working together as a group to the level that C-ute works as a group.

I want to see a different Berryz this summer, a more mature Berryz, one that takes risks and kicks ass before taking names.

Its pretty fallacious to assume you actually know the inner workings of the group based on what is shown to the public. This is the idol industry, after all. Anything that any one person says should or shouldn't be done about any given situation has a 99% chance of being wrong.

There's no way this could feel earned.

"So, I gave a member a title that means very little and is for show. We're gonna work hard sometime eventually probably."

And then, BOOM.

I agree with TnB, Tsunku's trolling skills are getting weak <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' />

But in all seriousness I wonder if he'd actually follow through with that threat. Would SharanQ be able to fill Budokan?

Also when it comes to the C-ute/Berryz discussion, I find that they're two different groups with different managers, images, etc. I know they originated from the same group of trainees and therefore their origins are similar, but overall I find that they follow different paths. For example, C-ute has had more members leave them, and they were "the Airi and Maimi show" for a while. Now that's not as prominent. On the other hand, Berryz has been a group of 7 for a very long time, and not a lot has changed. Line distribution is more even, but their sales have not changed as drastically as C-ute's have in recent years -- and before you argue no. of versions, they've been selling about the same number -- in fact, Berryz has been releasing more versions than C-ute for a long time and then C-ute upped it to 7 for Kimi wa Jitensha, but now they're both selling 5 versions. Also, ShoujoQ is right, C-ute has had less promo in comparison to Berryz. I think C-ute has even had less promo than Mano and S/mileage.

Saki mentioned that she already knew about the Budokan thing when they were talking about the whole "sub-leader" appointment thing a few weeks ago, she was just told not to discuss it until Tsunku said so.

You people are so, so sad. Idols can't "earn" anything when they have no actual control over it. If it were a sports competition or something else that has a measurable amount of effort or skill involved from the person or people in question, I could see how earning rewards would factor in, but its a goddamn business, they're just trying to drive up marketing by manipulating people's feelings.

But in all seriousness I wonder if he'd actually follow through with that threat. Would SharanQ be able to fill Budokan?
You seem to underestimate the overwhelming number of middle-aged Japanese women who will still pay hundreds of dollars to be within 200 feet of Tsunku or Hatake. The real problem in logic with the whole thing is that how many of the stans who buy the tickets to see Berryz would actually be happy about SharanQ playing instead. Doesn't seem likely it'd go over well.

Basically, yeah. Perfect marketing strategy to spread around the hype to multiple groups. I wonder if management also expected it to create a civil war of stans?

Yes, this is exactly what I was thinking. And since he likes to emotionally abuse the girls (re: s/mileage and that whole KANON YOU ARE A SUB-MEMBER debacle, plus the whole collecting smiles, 1st Gen MM selling singles in the streets, etc.) this is just par for the course for him. I mean...did any of us REALLY think that C-ute, S/mileage, and now J=J wouldn't go on to make their major debut? Did we really think Kanon was going to be demoted within S/mileage? And do we really think he's going to have Sharan Q perform instead of Berryz?

He has known all along both groups would be performing Budoukan this year and just chose to play it out this way. Because he is insane.

I don't like to read a lot of unnecessary fighting either. Both groups have lots of strengths, both groups have weaknesses. But if people are bound and determined to compare or designate one as better than the other, especially over who works harder, I'd rather see a situation in which they could be fairly and evenly compared. Like a science experiment! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Oh definitely! Or for the sake of using his troll powers, either way. The announcements are way too close together, especially knowing Saki already knew about it at the time of the silly "new sub-leader" thing. You don't just book a venue like that overnight.

Sadly it's all irrelevant in the end to most of us because we can't go see either group. Hopefully we get some good DVDs and merchandise out of it!

Of course, the obvious solution is to have Berryz and C-ute do a joint concert at Budokan. Their first joint concert--back in 2008--was done at a large venue (Yokohama Arena) and that was one of the greatest H!P concerts ever.

http://www.generasia.com/wiki/Berryz_Ko ... _Ranger%7E

(Their next joint concert, from 2011, was at a smaller venue, Nakano Sunplaza, and suffered accordingly.)

Oh, and what's a "stan"? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

A "stan" is an obsessive fan, the term is taken from Eminem's Stan.

Never thought I'd be posting an Eminem video in an H!P thread.

Best and only entertaining post in this thread.

Tsunkus ramen is my favourite flavour.

@yuzu; It could also come from "Stalker + fan = stan", unless that's where Eminem got it from.

Yup. I love that song by the way. I've been a huge Eminem fan since I was six, so that's one term I actually know.

Its rumored that's where Eminem got the idea from, was combining "stalker+fan" but I think we've had enough discussion of that, the point has been made, haha. If you just use it in the context of "stalker+fan" it is more universally applicable instead of using it as an Eminem reference, you can use it for any fandom. It also tends to suggest a more extreme level of obsession that way, which is more relevant to idol fans.
