Basically, she's a youtuber. . . she covers hello project songs and says her dream is to be in MM. She's 11, currently. She tried auditioned last year, but she was too young.

The 2nd round actually just started. They ended up extending the first round because of a large number of applicants past the initial deadline.

The 2nd round is done, so people who've passed to the third round will hear about it soon. Third round is where the trainees come in. I'm thinking they'll definitely have 12th gen picked out before MM go on tour in the fall.

So, in other words . . . round 3 is where the trainee's unfair advantage comes in. I'm still a little mad about 11th gen auditions since only a trainee got in. (Not that I don't adore Sakura or anything . . . but there was no need for a national audition if you were only going to add a trainee.)

There's no point in having trainees go through the first two rounds. The company already knows how well they sing and who they are.

^Well they did add some to eggs kenshuusei, so the girls got something. Someone before described it as a glorified egg audition.

The 3 that became kss (kenshuusei) were Makino Maria, Kishimoto Yumeno, and Ichioka Reina.

Wada Sakurako and Kaga Kaede are also from the auditions, they just didn't make it to the final round.

There are probably rules that require all girls to go through all stages of the audition.  Plus, there is nothing unfair about it.  Who is the say that the non-Eggs haven't been doing their own classes and training on their own time and money? The judges will want to see the girls in comparison in real time and not rely on vague memories and word of mouth.  
 
Don't they usually show us the finalists at some point? Is that round 3?

About the trainee's unfair advantage, I'm not referring to the fact that they skip half of the process and that they have formal training with H!P. Mainly, my point is that the last audition could have been considered unfair because only a trainee was added, when there was one or more other finalists that were good (cough, cough . . . Haruka). Like I said, please ignore that I said that . .  I didn't word it very well.

Star, there have been people passed up in every audition who were better than people who were chosen. Erina got in instead of Aina. Masaki, Haruna and Ayumi got in instead of Sara. At least Sakura can sing.

They've actually explicitly stated that kenshuusei get to go straight to round three. Also round four/training camp is the finalists. If the third round takes as long as the second (about two weeks), I'd expect the training camp to happen sometime late August. So 12th gen might be revealed in September.

I don't know Aina or Sara, but I certainly like Ayumi and think she fits MM very well.

Girls aren't really "passed up" because if they really wanted those other girls in MM, they would've added them. Erina is contributing a lot to the personality side of MM, which is good cause that's what get's them on TV shows. Ayumi has a lot to contribute too.

The first round is just photos and personal info. But if you went to the extended first round you had to have an acapella prepared too. And I saw someone say the second round is an in person interview. I think they usually don't really start looking at skill until round three. There's a video of Mizuki from her audition and since she wasn't in the training camp, third round would have to have been where she was cut.
