There was only one Japanese song which is why I was so surprised. I know she has been working more in English but it was still unexpected since the album is for a Japanese audience.

Every year I have this Twin Peaks urge.
So I'm just going to paste the wonderfully dreamy and mysterious Twin Peaks main theme:

(OMG THE NEW BOARD HAS AUTO SAVE AND SAVED THIS FROM DISAPPEARING TWICE IN THE AETHER OF THE DIGITAL AFTERLIFE ILU BBS NEW.0)
Okay, album review of Namie Amuro's new album, FEEL

Alive is the starting track and, considered in the context of the next few tracks, it works best as an album opener. The biggest strength in Alive is the twice-chantable chorus, but the lyrics and arrangement are simple and full of synthy padding. It's definitely a head-banger, but it lacks a complex element. Rating: Yeah, okay.
Rainbow is almost a conceptual joke. Right after the very American sounding Alive, with its four-on-the-four beat and simple chants, comes an chiptune-pop-dubstep song. It's about 40% Japanese lyrics and has an I Gotta Feeling beat under the verses. It bubbles around cutely until the chorus comes and then immediately piles on a lot of power into the belting chorus. It's fun and clean, but is very jarring coming off of Alive. Rating: didn't Koda Kumi already do a chiptune-dubstep song? <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDjQb74r0U4">Yes</a>, but Rainbow is better.
Can You Feel This Love? is a tough song. I think this is the "complextro" song originally teased and it shows. It's very high-BPM and Namie can pull off the raw difficulty of such a fast song (also see PLAY's It's All About You which had an equally confused fast beat). The balance of the song feels off. There really isn't much in terms of low-end sound and gives off a tinny feel to the track. Add on the rather repetitive ground a song this fast covers and a bland vocal performance and you just have a cutesy song. Rating: Can't feel the love.
Bigs Boys Cry rounds off the cute section of the album and is the only single track (even it's a-side companion, Beautiful, didn't make the cut!). This is where the urban sounds start filtering in (thanks to k-pop producing team Dsign), but this is another song with a confusing mix. The kick is extremely low, but the string/flute leads are very high leaving just the constantly clapping floating in the middle. The chorus is catchy and the vocal performance is just above Namie's standard fare mono-tone sound. Such a cute song for this style is just confusing. It's not quite a headbanger, not quite a shower belter. It fits in such a strange space of inoffense, innocence, and trendiness. Rating: Oh shit baby.
Hands on Me brings a big thump sound and transitions into electro-hip-<del>hop</del>pop. The chorus reminds me a little of the Gangnam Style arrangement, but it's much longer and brings a very catchy hook. Namie's vocals remind me of the very heavily distorted Hide & Seek (PLAY) as does the very full drum track. The editing is consistent in staying fresh, but the screech synth breaks get a little worn out by the end. Rating: TLC is in the music video. 'nuff said.
Heaven is a strong dance number by big-name EDM producer Zedd. Honestly, Heaven is single-level material. Namie's rapping is up-front in the verses (though mixed a little low for my taste...) and then she belts in the explosive chorus. In fact, the alternate chorus with it's alternate structure may be one of the stronger points of the whole album. It's unexpected and, in a synth-heavy song like this, that's a life saver. Rating: Hea-bun is where this song is.
Poison is best described as BoA's Eat You Up meets <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-26hsZqwveA">Susanne Vega's Tom's Diner</a> meets Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl. It's the second-most Japanese song both lyrically and musically sounding. It's a safe song with a lot of interesting melodies, but not a lot of wow factor. You'll keep a dance floor grinding, but it won't blow minds. The best element here is the arrangement of a rather toxic-sounding beat. Rating: This girl is poisooooon.
La La La has to be a Rihanna reject song. It feels very modern-American pop with a slightly calypso twist and very clean lyrics ("I reckon I like you","gotta me thinkin bout la la la la"). On paper, such a clean song wouldn't appeal to me, but the chorus is enunciated very well and is one of the catchiest of the deep-cuts (ie, not PV tracks). It will be interesting to see what dance they choreograph. Rating: 3/3 La's.
Supernatural Love doesn't feel like a Namie Amuro song. Moreso than anyother album, it feels like a Koda Kumi track with it's very youthful sounding rap bridges, flighty verses, and robo-chorus. Namie sounds a lot like Komuro-era Namie in this track, especially in the final vocal belts. I wonder if she can just sound like 90's Namie whenever... For as much tension as the song takes and releases, there doesn't feel like a lot of substance. Namie's vocals and the interesting electonic distortion give it a unique taste though. Rating: What in the holy fuck is "tareka teka" supposed to mean?
Let Me Let You Go is an oddball in this oddball album of oddballs if only because it feels like the only standard fare studio album track. It's a very stripped-down piano and strings ballad with a very passionate performance. Unfortunately, Namie's weak English pronunciation kills this song more than any other ("and then I saw a sign that say, 'do not disturb'", "you say/saw there/that something/someday you'll be back with me"). Rating: Namie's American-south pronunciation, y'all.
Contrail is definitely one of the album's big selling points. It was/is the theme song for a big TV drama and has been pimped in and out. It's the album's only all-Japanese song proper and it diverges from the pack by being a very unique, but very Japanese sounding song. It reminds me of a modern version of Nobuchika Eri's Lights if it was David Guetta/Usher's Without You. Like Poison, the song succeeds in having a unique sound. It's uplifting and feels in-the-air (not airy). Nao'ymt's always-unique lyrics and melodies just flourish bringing the song and album to a spectacular high. I need more Nao'ymt-Namie productions in my life. Rating: I can't think of anything witty, but it's glorious.
Stardust in My Eyes rounds off the album with what you expect to be a big, bold ballad, but evolves into a colorful drum'n'bass piece. It's a wonderful subversion to the slow ballad/slow uplifting album-tail song. Namie gives a good performance here and ends on a strong note.  Rating: Feels like stardust in my eyes, but without all the noxious gases and scratchiness.

Overall, FEEL is a really solid album. For such a heavy use of English (to facilitate foreign producers' demoes), the translations and structuring avoid the <a href="http://namie-amuro-lyrics.blogspot.com/ ... painful</a>, <a href="http://namie-amuro-lyrics.blogspot.com/ ... etitive</a> stumblings of ESL English. Namie isn't the best at it, but she's decent. The shining gems here are the productions behind each track. Only the floundering mess that is Can You Feel This Love? has a less-than-par backing. Every other track is well made and isn't afraid to throw curveballs. The level of polish pushes so many of the tracks to be great. I'm very excited to see what is in store for the upcoming FEEL Tour (I'm pretty sure I missed the ticket lottery...). It's a very club sound and Namie hasn't had this many songs that sound like this on a tour (the Uncontrollable songs were relegated to the plain-jane Five Major Domes Tour).
A sound like this is rare in Japan, right? It's clear Namie's been on this new direction of pop (granted, akin to the now much-less-popular Koda Kumi), but Namie, even at this popularity level, could make shockwaves with this. She probably won't make CD sales relevant again, but maybe this could be a spearhead on a new, more worldly j-pop era. I think Namie's obvious trajectory is deeper and deeper into Asia with more approachable lyrics (English) and more modern (not Japanese) sounds. With Namie heading her new avex sublabel, Dimension Point, and her purported insane-level wealth, Namie could bankroll a big rollout further and further into Asia. Of course, she'll never have an American presence unless she gets a Kyary Pamyu Pamyu level viral hit.
Lastly, I'm reminded a bit of Utada Hikaru's debut and what brought her into the limelight: American sounds and English. Granted, that era is just outside my window of experience, but isn't that basically what did it for Utada?

FINAL JUDGEMENT ON THE OBJECTIVE SCALE OF GOODNESS AND BADNESS: AUDITORY EDITION 2013: VERY YES.

There's a rip of FEEL available in the Audio/Video Section of the board (thanks Zae! <3). Share you thoughts on your likes and dislikes! (Please someone else fangirl out about her with me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee)

^Haha. I think the production is decent, but the lyrics are still kind of hamfisted. Better than Born This Way, but we've yet to see how crappy the rest of the album tracks are.

Have you heard Burqa yet? I think it's pretty terrible. But I want to believe that there's going to be a gem or two on this album.

I kinda like Burqa. It's quirky, but it works well. I only remember the chorus right now, but I liked it a lot.

Namie Amuro's official YouTube channel released a promo video of an upcoming collaboration "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42gBb01W57c">Namie Amuro x VOGUE JAPAN x Gucci</a>" which features a new song believed to be called "Ballerina." The song seems to be legit as Avex has claimed it on reuploads on YouTube and uses Wolfgang Gartner's 2009 elecrto-house song "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M7CiegyP90">Fire Power</a>" as the instrumental. It is unclear if this track will be the original mix or a remix a la last year's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSA2fCa_CxI">similarly edited promo video with a remix of Damage</a>.
The collaboration video has two additional edits on the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 8A4">Vogue Japan</a> and <a href="http://www.gucci.com/jp/worldofgucci/ar ... ">Gucci</a> websites.
It seems the collaboration will reach a head at Tokyo's "FASHION NIGHT OUT," September 7 at the Gucci Aoyama store. At the event, a 3D-scanned, life-size mannequin will be on display of Namie. To promote the event, Namie will be on the cover of Vogue August 28 wearing the Gucci 2013-2014 Fall-Winter collection.
This is the second Namie Amuro song to be used for promos that hasn't been released this year, the first being "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa02BNFJUlo">Neon Lipstick</a>," a four-on-the-floor dance song used in the Kose Esprique "Fushigi no Liquid Rouge" campaign.

Two years since her first album, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mademoise ... DEMOISELLE YULIA</a> (you might remember her for "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU3vnuNrzqg">GIMME GIMME</a>") will be releasing a new album 2013-09-18 named <a href="http://www.kozm-agency.tv/artist/yulia/">WHATEVER HARAJUKU</a>. The title track is "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzmSMp2n5zU">HARAJUKU WANDER</a>".

Fun fact: Yulia was in <a href="http://youtu.be/7LP4foN3Xs4?t=3m17s">CL's music video for "The Baddest Female"</a>.

Ugh, fuck you UFA. For the first time EVER, Takui is getting a cd/dvd LTD version of his single (dude has been around for 15 years) and his singles have always never been on his albums (he's cool like that) but now he's getting 3 versions of a single that are songs off his album with the little message "they're different in sound image than the album versions! ;)"

WTF does that even mean.

And they release the same day as Momoclo's single, so yes I went ahead and bought all three versions, and yes I am part of the problem. So far I only have Momoclo's DVD version in the cart, I hope it doesn't come with something nifty that makes me add on another.

But he's my "kamioshi" of JRock and I've been with him all fifteen years of his career, but damn man, that's 7600yen for the singles+album. :(  QUIT TESTING MY LOVE LIKE THAT TAKUI.

He's too niche to get a sale. They usually sell out and never restock his stuff versus overstocking and needing to get rid of it. :(

I haven't confirmed the order yet. My CC doesn't go through anymore so I need to use Paypal. I'm going to watch the exchange rate so maybe I could save myself a couple of dollars. And by then I may cut the order a bit, but I doubt it because I'm a pathetic fangirl when it comes to Takui.

The song isn't that great IMO but I like the video a lot. Miley in general gives me weird feelings because I just can't help thinking of her as a kid.

But dayumn she gave me some inspiration to get my shit together 'cause her legs and abs are KILLER.
