A Pink
I never thought I'd see the day that I'd make a post about a new Kpop group, but these girls blow my mind. I just randomly heard a C-Real song on the radio today and I thought they were pretty old-school Kpop from what I had heard, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that artists of this type still existed among the droves of garbage techno-dance groups trying to sound American. After going to YouTube, C-Real's videos led me to some A Pink stuff, and I was floored. This is the kind of K-pop I absolutely adore and I don't know why there isn't a thread about them here yet. I have now listened to every song they did from both of their albums and the song they did on the "Protect the Boss" OST, and every single song makes me want to melt, they're so good. I may even buy their albums, at this point. They have that old K-pop style sound that kinda sounds like energetic girl group J-pop, which I have missed for many years. If anyone has yet to check them out and are a fan of old-school K-pop girl groups, this is for you.
Is anyone else a fan? Have any more interesting info or suggestions for more stuff like this? I know this one group isn't going to completely re-kindle my interest in K-pop, but even if I just have these 11 songs to listen to, I'm a happy camper.

Well, since you didn't provide any links to the good/best songs I just googled and came up with "I don't know":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L0O1VJjh_A
Sounds pretty boring to me.
Like some MM B-side, rather flat and no meat to it.
I think somebody mentioned them before already, because I remember that video.

Re: A Pink
I think that's the song of theirs I actually liked the least of all. I was going to put up some links right after I posted it, but got distracted by about 10 things. I will soon. Its hard to do since I haven't gotten to listen enough to really put many song over the other songs cause I enjoy them all quite a bit. And do you even like old K-pop of this style or are you more into newer stuff? It seems like you're into newer stuff, from what I've read of your posts, but obviously I don't know for sure.

I don't really know any old asian Pop songs.
Be it Japanese, Chinese or Korean.
Though the very few Japanese ones I heard from the 60s and 70s I didn't like. Pepper Keibu is pretty much the only one I can listen to.

I'm only talking about late 90s/early 2000s K-pop, not like 1970s. But anyway, I put links of some of the best songs IMO

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. That's funny. In an industry where 95% of the artists actually ARE boring and generic, these kids are just about the only thing that actually isn't. I actually laughed out loud at that. Irony rules

Re: A Pink
I came across their two mini-albums, and I do like them a fair bit.
I can't think of any other groups that have that old KPop style that you're looking for. The only thing that came to mind as being close is SECRET's 2nd single, "Starlight Moonlight". It's cute, simple pop. Does this fit the bill?

Yeah, that's the best Wonder Girls song.

Re: A Pink
That's not quite the style that I associate so closely with old K-pop, but that is a really good song. If you have any more suggestions in that style, I'm definitely interested. I'd associate that sound more with what you hear in a lot of Idol Jpop. A Pink personifies the sound I'm talking about pretty much 100%, yet its hard to describe the sound in much more detail. Somewhat of a mix between R&B, techno, cute pop, and a few other things, but doesn't lean too much on any of them individually.

Re: A Pink
I just listened to Snow Pink. I like it a lot! I'm totally not into K pop at all... I've tried to force myself to listen to the big groups several times since everyone seems to like them so much, but I just can't get into it. I can't pinpoint what's different about A Pink's sound, but when I was like 15 and had no money and used to go to Chinatown to get my cheap bootleg anime/asian music fix, stuff like this was playing in stores and I felt like I was in heaven. It's nostalgic even though it's new

Awesome, I'm glad someone else feels the same about it and has had pretty much the exact same experience with all the bigger groups as I have. This is the same kind of post I've been making here for a while, and I'm glad I could introduce someone to them Definitely nostalgic for me because even a lot popular groups from the early 2000s sounded like A Pink, but that sound is mostly gone now. I've also tried to pin down exactly what makes them so unique, but as I said in a previous post, I think that's what makes them so unique, is that they don't rely on a certain kind of genre sound too heavily at any point, it stays diverse throughout and each song is a great mesh of different sounds.

I never saw them before, but I like them!!
They sound like SNSD at the very beggining. And that for me was never a bad moment for SNSD.
Yay for cute asian pop.

Re: A Pink
Pretty pissed off right now. The new A Pink album just came out about a week ago and I got around to listening to it today. It has left behind everything that made both of their mini-albums great and they now sound like every other generic Kpop group on the market. Fuck life. Nothing good can last for very long in this industry, can it?

I guess you don't like Hush. My favorites beside the tile song are Cat, Bubibu, and I got you. You didn't like one song?

This is pretty much kpop always. They jump from style to style like a pair of clothes.

Of course they do, just like some Jpop artists do, that's part of what can make certain artists as great as they are, but there has to be a quality of songwriting and arrangement behind the different styles as well, which I don't feel is supported here at all. They managed to be damn near perfect for 2 releases, which is longer than most Korean artists after 2004, and that won't change, but I wouldn't be caught dead listening to this album.

Re: A Pink
I think this is one of my favorite songs by them... Starts soft, but builds up some power. I've been watching A Pink since, well, around the time they debuted. Wondering when they will make a comeback. Hopefully soon! Eunji was a treat to watch in Answer Me! 1997. She seems to be a very fun person... Or, at least she can act like one XD
Re: A Pink
APink continues with their signature sound in their new song "LUV". Although not as fun as "NoNoNo" or "Mr. Chu", it's certainly still catchy and brings along that familiar APink charm.
