Persona 4

Post by Ap2000 »
Not really like any other flight simulator other flight simulators dont have much on the rudder pedals or the joystick. My dad has the expansion with a TON of mods of planes not added in (the creator sent it to some programmer since he was to lazy to put it in himself which figures). The expansion is IL2-Sturmovik Forgotten Battles.

so what's persona 4 like?
As much as I loved Persona 3, P4 is tedious and annoying in so many ways, I don't even know if I ever will play it again, eventhough the characters and story are interesting.
I saw that. It's a nice way to add a lot of replayability, especially since the game's so short. But then I replayed Shiki-2 and it didn't give me the star for beating the boss (the bat) on hard. Do I have to get the yukata ramen star first? Do you have to ge them in order?
When you wake up inside A-East, before leaving, scan in the bottom left corner for the bat. It's a bigass blue noise. At least, I think that's the right day.. If it isn't there, wander around the areas, keeping an eye on the cellphone service bar. If it has NO bars, that means there's a bigass blue boss noise in the area that you can scan for. That's the boss you need to beat, not the one within the context of the plot. They go out of order a lot of the time..

If you need any help, I can be of service. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cake:' /> I'm only 75% complete my pins (Mingle mode! Damn you mingle mode!) but I'm 100% done my noise report and like 97% complete on my items, and am currently wandering around Beat week beating up Taboo noise on Lv. 1 Ultimate for Dark Matter pins... Oh, and I have all but the final star on Beat Day 7, and the final star on Another Day (the "Get the noise report for Beat Day 7" star <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nfused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':popper:' />), so anything you need help with, I'd be glad to assist.

I've devoted a ridiculous amount of time to ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY FINISHING this game, which is beyond ridiculous, being as this is Square and ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY FINISHING any Square game is like signing away a couple months of your life..

Thanks. I found out about the solution online. Wouldn't it make more sense to just count it if you beat the boss in the normal progression of the story? Anyway, I'm on the next day and I need to find the boss icon that isn't Beat on his skateboard. Why are all of these bosses so hard, even when I'm on level thirty-something?

Thanks for offering the help, but I think KORG DS-10 has caught my attention for a while.

What. To me the story is the only part of Persona 4 that was inferior to Persona 3, it's otherwise a marked improvement in every aspect to P3. What did you not like about P4's gameplay compared to P3?

I've been playing a lot of arcade games lately since a friend of mine is getting an arcade machine. I really hope he can get Magical Drop 3, fingers crossed for that one! One of the best puzzle games ever made for sure. I've been playing a lot of Puzzle Fighter as well on the 360 (even though the controller is so terrible it makes me want to hit my head against a wall). I've got most of the achievements but the 7-chain... Wow. That's tough.

- The thing with death blows that I mentioned before, that can come all of a sudden and then you have to re-do half an hour of uninteresting smashing through enemies again.

- You have to grind to even be able to survive the bosses or those combos from normal enemies when they deal high damage on your main AND THEN hit him once again. (I played 3 & 4 on "normal" difficulty)

- If the main character is dead in battle, the game is over. (I think this was the same in P3, but that was never a problem to me because of the acceptable difficulty)

- No SP-Recovery items, that's a REALLY bad joke. This is the first RPG that I played that has Mana/Magical power/whatever you want to call it in it but no item to efficiently recover them. (and those 10 SP cans are damn worthless)

I pretty much agree with this statement, though another thing about P4 that I felt was downgraded was engaging enemies. The hitboxes feel way off, I whiff all the time on grounded shadows. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

So you felt the difficult was higher in P4? I had a much harder time beating bosses overall in P3, though admittedly P4 had -paticular- bosses I had the most trouble with. I think the difference was being able to control all your characters. In P3, one mistake meant no tbeing able to rememdy it until MCs turn, whereas I can fix a mistake by using an item or something on anybody's turn in P4.

Not that P4 is easy by any means. I guess I just felt like I got frustrated way easier in P3 from random deaths/bosses.

Yeah, the lack SP recovery is such a drag in P4, though it gets a lot easier later on. My biggest gripe was the lack of money. I mean, P3 was a joke, I had 6 million yen by the end. In P4, I barely cracked 100k at any point. It makes using the compendium soooo difficult.

Overall, it's difficult for me to pick a favorite. I guess I liked the story of P3 better, but the gameplay mechanics of P4 better. I'd also give the social link nod to P4.

Wow, that's impressive! I didn't have the patience to complete much of anything after I beat the main story.

Update: Finished the stars! Honestly, the dragon-boss thing wasn't that difficult.. You only had to fight it pre-incorporating Joshua to get the star. I'm also at Lv. 99 and all of my characters have ridiculous stats from the Gatito wear that gives them, like, +25 attack and such on, making things considerably easier... <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> Now - onto Final Time Attack! I also think I have to go back and beat old bosses on higher difficulty levels, because I'm missing a bunch of rare pins. I WILL FINISH THIS GAME! FUCK YOU SQUARE!

Is P4 really that much harder? I played through some of P3 before losing interest/not having time for it (still managed to get roped into cosplaying Yukari last summer, erp), but it didn't seem THAT difficult.. I'm not good at games with a steep learning curve, I tend to get very frustrated and hurt things, haha.

I was frustrated at the start with P4 myself. In general I just found everything about the dungeons more frustrating. Once I got 3 or 4 dungeons deep though I felt way better about things, and now I would agree that the gameplay has largely improved. Then again, I am currently stuck way, way worse than I was ever stuck in P3 (at the fucking fetus baby). That thing has kept me rooted in place for almost a month now I think. I really wish I could move on before I lose interest entirely...

Also Ap, in regards to SP items, I'm absolutely rolling in SP +50 items, and I'm not all that far in the game. Push through another dungeon or two and you should be too.

Recently I've been trying to beat some of the SRPGs that have been lingering in my collection forever. Beat Suikoden Tactics last week, and am now working on Front Mission (DS). When I don't feel like prolonged bouts of inactivity between bits of positioning units, Castle of Shikigami 2 finally arrived yesterday, and I've been playing that. Only made it to the 2-2 boss so far, but I'm not using any credits, so.
Until only memories remain...

First of all, I had way too many SP things, never used them at all, so I don't know what you were doing but something was off. Secondly, no more becoming tired == buy another "round" of grinding from the fox (full SP recovery). Therefore there's no reason ever to be underpowered for any fight ever, so the difficulty was rightfully cranked up to compensate and make the game itself more interesting. P3 got way too easy once you got a few good pokemon Personae going. I liked the difficulty curve of P4 way better.

P3 has patches of evilly-difficult combined with patches of absurdly easy. It was really good, but not a polished product, especially compared to P4 (though perhaps P3:FES was better, I didn't play that).

You people and your plethora of SP items. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> Actually, I didn't have much of an SP problem late game when the fox became affordable and I discovered the SP soda, but before that, ugh. Sure, I could have equipped a persona with Invigorate and went and battled a weak shadow and guarded every turn, but that's mind-numbing. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/oiy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Question for you: Do you try to control both screens at once or let the top play out itself? I tried controlling both and found it to be waaaay too stressful, but perhaps I wasn't doing it right. More on topic, congrats on the star completion! The pins must be really annoying to complete... seems like there's hundreds of them. And then there's the whole evolution thing... craziness.

I had a hard time with that guy too, here was the strategy I used: Fuse Black Frost, he has Agidyne + Mind charge. In order to prevent Shadow Mitsuo from "rebuilding" his shell form, you have to deal a bunch of damage in a single attack while he's rebuilding it, then his shell will fall apart. Not to mention, it deals a ton of damage. But even with that strategy, it was pretty tough.

Let's just settle with /// and Infinite Loop having a fucked up version of the game. =P

Even the guise on gametrailers.com (yeah, I whined about it there too) said the game lacked those items.

Most of my SP item usage came outside battle. My plan was to try and knock out every dungeon in one day to have as much time as possible to try and max as many S Links as possible. The fox was too expensive early on, so I had to rely on items. I never actually got done any dungeons in one day until near the very end because of lack of SP. =/ The only time I ever really used SP items in battle were a couple bosses, and they were usually somas, and usually only to refill MC.

Anyone else here buy the palette of soda from home shopping in P4? That pretty much lasted me. I agree that there was not enough items for SP recovery at all.

As far as the overall game, I like the story and I'm glad there are more things to do, but I like the story better in 3 and, while there was less to do, there was always something. If it rains in 4, you can pretty much....waste your afternoon getting a gachapon item.

Or hang out with a fox! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

"The fox seems exuberant."

So who here adores the soundtrack? My favorites from P3 (I'll avoid titles in case of spoilers):

Regular battle theme - kinda doesn't really fit the dark environment but oh so groovy.

The song you hear in shops - so simple and yet so damn catchy.

The songs in the city and school during the last portion of the game - they have that epic, end-of-game feel to them, and they fit the mood absolutely perfectly.

When you fight Strega - awesome guitar.

Final Boss music - Quite possibly the best final boss music I've ever heard.

End Credit music - Massive spoilers: They take the melodies of Memories of the City and Memories of the School and combine them to form "Memories of You"... how appropriately awesome is that? Not to mention it's a fantastic song to begin with.

From Persona 4:

Opening theme - I especially love the lyrics.

Overworld music on both sunny and cloudy days - both songs are just catchy.

Main battle music - Another slightly inappropriate yet awesome battle song.

TV World main lobby

When you fight That crazy angel dude - mostly boring but that one guitar section is so nice.

And now, for your listening pleasure, The most annoying song ever!

I guess it will be the same as with Persona 3:

1st time hearing: "Oh, sounds cool."

after hearing it at the exact same time for several hours again and again and again: "I wish they had put in some kind of equalizer where you can mute the music, but still have the character voices on."

I'd also appreciate a 16:9 mode (eventhough it still looks ok stretched) and some kind of equalizer/volume control where you could decrease the volume of things such as battle sounds, useless comments from your advisor (in this case Teddie) etc.

How do you let the fox do anything ? (summon him, or whatever)

I just "unlocked" him and now he's there at the entrance with Teddie, but I don't know how I can make him do anything at all.

btw, I think Persona 5 will be released on the Wii (this way they can keep the age-old engine), which means I will probably never play it.

On rainy days you should eat the super bowl challenge, especially early on in the game. Courage and Expression are huge!

The fox just sits in the entrance and you can pay him an excessive amount of money to give your party back all SP. Mostly useless unless you suck at SP preservation, which as we've established, you do. 8o Sometimes you run into him in the dungeons as well, I didn't quite figure out how that worked though.

The music in P4 is great, but I liked P3 better. I still get some of that music stuck in my head. Then again, P4 also, but I just finished that a couple weeks ago. I FACE UP, I OWN UP, I VISION TO THE TRUTH... (or something). Anyway I really enjoy it.

EDIT: Also, yee-ouch at the dubbed voice acting. Thankfully I have a chipped PS2 so I could play the undubs, otherwise I never would've played these games at all. I have a low tolerance for horrible voice acting.

I thought the dubs for both games were great. There were a few misses (*cough*Fuuka*cough*) but I felt for the most part it was better than most video game dubs.

I guess he's quite useless then too.

Because you can only get out of the dungeon at save-points anyway (unless, you use those items, but then your progress gets reseted to Level 1/wherever a savepoint is) and it's far better to just wait a day and let HP & SP fill up again and continue the dungeon the next day.

But I never cared too much for dubs in games.

If you use a Goho-M, you can come back to the level you were at. That was my #1 used item, the Goho-M. It's immeasurably useful, especially later on with larger teams.

Also, assorted personas + Teddie learn Traesto (sp?) which also escapes dungeons. However, I eventually got rid of it on Teddie and it never carried over through fusions for my own personas. So Goho-M it is. (Also, took me awhile to see the pun in the name. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/doh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> )

I never knew that.

Yeah after I figured that out I basically went into every dungeon with about 20+ Goho-Ms and returned to save every level. Then again, I'm the kinda guy that only likes levelling on characters that are way above my level. Otherwise it's boring. If you play it like a normal person, keeping in mind good strategy, you'd probably be okay with just using the save point at the top of each dungeon.

So it took me awhile to notice this, but...

I think Rise has a certain H!P look-alike! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ek3run.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

And they're both Idols! Crazy stuff. I would imagine that's a pretty common Idol-type look, but it's still a somewhat striking resemblance.

And I can totally imagine Reina acting like Rise does.
