Street Fighter 4

Post by al kusanagi »

Got the PS3 version of SF4 today . Pisses me off. I'm installing it to the HD now because the load times take longer than the fights. Also not happy that I have to unlock the characters I want to play by using ones I would never willingly touch otherwise.

Hope the 360 version loads a little faster since that will be the one I'll play more.

Got mine reserved for Wednesday, is the worldwide opponent search thing actually in there? It sounded cool, like how you'd be playing against the CPU & someone from anywhere could challenge you just as if they put in a quarter (or 4) at an arcade. I just hope the online isn't restricted to regions like previous PS3 games.

I don't think online is restricted to regions, hearing from the people who got it early from 7-11. That's just from the 360 version though. Are you getting the PS3 version? I want to play SF4 with BBSers. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

So, this is getting absurdly good reviews. Are there any non-fighting game fans that are interested in this, or are you guys (and the reviewers) all hardcore fighter fans?

Well since it's been simplified for the most part back to the SF2 basics, it's a bit more entry level friendly than most fighters have been in the last decade, so new fans could probably pick it up. Personally I've been a fan since the original arcade machine.

And I've got both versions although I play the 360 more. Xbox= Ninjakid13 PS3= Alkusanagi

I have no interest in this game. I've been a huge fighting game fan since I was probably 8 years old (that's almost 20 years, guys,) but this game just doesn't interest me. The graphics are ugly, I don't have the time or motivation to learn new move lists, and I just can't find any reason to justify getting this. The achievement list sucks, which can help in motivation to play a game more, and I'd much rather just play KOF12 when that comes out. The game has definitely already picked up tons of steam based on hype and the title itself, with droves of weeaboos and people who normally don't have much interest in video games acting like they care about it to fit in with their friends, but I'm not sure I can attest to it being such a great game. I played the arcade machine a bit and was bored, so I'm wanting to wait until KOF instead. And those graphics are gorgeous.

The other big down-side is that one of the biggest joys of fighting games is playing them with other people. And this doesn't mean online, because I've never really liked fighting games online, and at this point, anyone who actually comes over to my house has no interest in playing fighting games, so this completely falls flat. Back in college I could pull together 4 or 5 people to sit around and play Street Fighter all night, but there's just no possibility of that anymore besides online, which I don't like. Online lags and just misses the whole feel of playing with other people actually sitting there.

Sadude mentioned reviews, but reviews don't mean shit to me anymore, because I've become of firm belief in the last year or two that a vast majority of reviews (if positive) are just paid for by the company who made the game and really don't reflect anything meaningful. Besides them being completely arbitrary to begin with, even a lot of what would normally be useful past that, like solid facts about the game, often have the reviewer's spin on it to where even that isn't all that useful anymore. Playing demos or trying a game for myself is the only thing that will influence my opinion on a game.

And if you think the scores for this are high, my guess is Resident Evil 5 may be way higher, though that game is going to be way more deserving.

I hate you Americans and Japs sooooo much. >:U

Nah but dammit, why can't they just release it all at once <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

A friend of mine is getting the game and 2 of the arcade controllers. I'm hoping to buy one of the controllers off him later so I can play puzzle fighter with it, but first we're gonna have us an arcade gaming party. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /drunk.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

Like Augen I hate playing fighters online with a passion (online gaming on consoles in general is one of the worst inventions of our time), so the only way I'll play it is local multiplayer.

I'm absolutely not interested, I dislike street fighter very much actually.

Though I played some SSBM now and then with friends and loved Soul Calibur 2, I've never been a beat'em'up fan.

street fighter is just one of those generic ones I don't like at all.

Generic? I think you children need a history lesson... With the possible exception of Karate Champ, Street Fighter is the father of the fighting genre. The far flung year of 1987 is when it came out. It's older than 90% of the HP members. When SF2 came out in the early 90's it was responsible for bringing arcades and competitive gaming back from nearly a decade long lull. So show a little respect.

Would I preferred that it been in hand drawn 2d? Yes. Will KoF XII likely be far more awesome? Yes. But it plays extremely well and is the first step in bringing back a genre that has fallen out of the public eye for nearly 10 years, and that I like.

In response to AP's post (as I see Al just posted): that wasn't really what sadude asked. That said, why are you posting in this thread? I'm not trying to be a dick or start anything, but sometimes I feel like you pop in just to say you hate things, and I am genuinely curious as to your motivation.

Edit: Re-reading it, OK. Acceptable response, I guess. I'm not sure how I read it the first time. I still feel like you enjoy bashing things, though! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ek3run.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

Just because something is old, doesn't make it good.

It was generic to me back then when I had a SNES and it is uninteresting to me now. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... eeping.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

@Pflaume; there are a lot of threads I don't post in, just when something stands out as being praised by so many and I don't like it, then I feel having a little contrast is good. I guess that's the little AEUGN in me !

After all, I didn't flame the persons who like these kind of games. I never have been in a fight in this forum as far as I can remember, contrary to most other users. =P

Agreed. I don't really think your response was out of line so much, and I also think I shouldn't be the only one who voices their opinion here, be it negative or "against the grain" if you will. That's what we're supposed to be here for, not to just circle jerk each other about how great something is. There needs to be some contrast to have any interesting discussion, no matter what the subject.

The limited edition is a huge waste of money anyway. I might have bought it if you got to choose which costumes you wanted. :< Also the DVD and soundtrack are all very easily piratable.

EDIT: And apparently the netplay is really good! Even though they don't use the GGPO code!

Most likely, BUT... will it have action figures with 4 arms to "simulate" rapid punch action like the DBZ toys? I think not!

The reason I still stick with Street Fighter (primarily the Zero/Alpha series) is that I've always preferred the hand-drawn look, and the games play fast & "feel" right to me. I just haven't come across the 3D fighter yet that didn't feel overly "floaty" or held back by it's own physics, even the Tekken & Virtua Fighter games. I'm -hoping- SFIV will finally break this long chain (I've actually never played it, I couldn't even tell you where a machine might be haha) and not be a glorified EX Plus Alpha rehash, but everything I've read so far seems to alleviate that fear.

I got it today. It feels like what would happen if CvS2 and SF2 had a baby. The only thing I really don't like is how ridiculously small the window is for linking normals. IT SHOULDN'T TAKE ME 10 MINUTES IN TRIAL MODE TO LINK MP INTO HP!!! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> These trials are going to take me forever.

Other than that, the netplay is pretty okay. There are some laggy matches, but most of them feel fine. I'm still not entirely used to the game though, as I have no idea what to do on knockdown and always get fucked up whenever I try something other than a meaty fireball.

I played this with some friends today and I really enjoyed it. Much more than I thought I would, since I tend to really suck at combo-oriented special move fighting games like Street Fighter, but 4 is actually really fluid and easy to pick up.

... But I still have a lot of issues with me doing, say back circle x and somehow managing to launch Chun-Li into doing something completely the opposite of what I wanted her to do. And charge moves SUCK. SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK. We spent almost two hours trying to beat arcade mode with Chun-Li (ON MEDIUM) because the AI is a cheap motherfucker and will not allow fucking charge moves to go off, especially at later levels.

If I do have to complain about the game, it's the cheap and very predictable ways the AI will react against you in arcade. We spent so long on Ken that I can tell you right now, that he will always do shoryuken if you jump towards him, always do an EX Tatsumaki if you're guarding or back against the wall, always do hadoken if you're far away, and is generally a cheap motherfucker.

But versus is fun. I guess. We spent more time on arcade trying to unlock characters than actually fighting each other tonight, so I dunno.

I've been playing the 360 version for the last couple days and love it. I was prepared for disappointment after not quite connecting with SF3, SFA3, and ST, but this is just perfect. I wish I could get better at controlling it without having to buy additional hardware. I know it's possible.
