Japanese Producer wants, “SNSD-WG-Kara”

Tsunku, one the most prestigious producers in Japan, has been getting a lot of attention for his interest in Wonder Girls, SNSD, and Kara.

Tsunku had a news conference on the ninth at the Intercontinental Hotel Allegro Hall about the first ever Korea-Japan joint audition project called “Meet Tokyo Girl”.

Tsunku who is the producer for the whole Hello Project artists, including Morning Musume, has been praised highly for his producing ability, thus giving him the authority for the final decision of this audition. Leaders of top Japanese girl groups, Saki Shimizu from Berryz Kobo, and Maimi Yajima from C_ute, also attended the news conference with Tsunku.

On this day, Tsunku said, “I think that the level of Korean music industry is very high. I was not able to access the Korean Music industry easily before. I just recently got familiar with the Korean Industry as the exchange of the entertainment goods is getting more settled in.”

He also added, “I realized that if I don’t try harder, than the Korean music Industry will take over the Japanese music industry. I want to bring Wonder Girls, SNSD, and Kara into my own company, as well as Kangta from H.O.T.”

“Meet Tokyo Girl” is a joint project between Up-Front Entertainment and Mnet Media, in which they will choose a Korean member through open auditions. Starting from the coming 10th to the 19th of April, Tsunku will be choosing the 10 finalists. After the audition, these 10 members will go through an intense training for 8 weeks, and at the end, only one will be chosen to become a trainee for Hello Project. The winner will then go to Japan, and take all the steps that a normal Japanese entertainer would take to debut in Japan.

FINALLY! Honestly, though, I dont think SM or JYP would ever let one of their girls go into H!P or Morning Musume because they are going downhill quite a bit. They would just be tossed in and forgotten. Tsunku should just hold auditions in Korea.

This has a lot of potential to be awesome, since a vast majority of Korean idols are way more cute than most Japanese ones, and Korea usually produces really good idols, when they're actually singing idol music, but its one of the least popular genres of artist over there, so it gets no attention. Their idol industry dropped off and/or went through a huge change around 2004 where a lot of great idol-style artists stopped making music or completely changed to start singing ballads and shitty, boring music or just tried to do the "growing up" thing and the music got just plain boring and uninspired, even if it wasn't ballads. In a way, I think Tsunku could re-vitalize some of that industry if he tried hard enough. If there's anyone in this world that can make someone popular in the Asian markets, it'd sure as hell be that man.

I knew this would happen but it surprises me that it came so late. The Korea boom has been going on for some time and there have been some big cross-over attempts (Boa, obvs but also some of the older girl groups). I was certain they would go to Korea or Taiwan before they went to China. Then again, it was their first overseas experiment and there was much to risk - esp considering the unhappy relationship between Japan and almost every single country in Asia. Weee colonialism. Anyway.

Kangta from HOT?! Oh man, it is like my high school nightmare. HOT was so big when I was in jr high/high school because our area has a lot of Korean-Americans. This boy was so pretty, he makes Yamapi look like a gorilla.

There's been some buzz that the winners of the Korean audition may join Berryz/C-ute. Reasoning being the autograph session the two leaders held, and that the applications say that the winners of the audition will become "Non-Morning Musume members of Hello! Project"

That's not really all that sound of an argument, but it would be interesting. :>

Also videos from the Korean signing:

What particularly prompted this? They're like that with all celebrities in Korea, and honestly, most of them were just media outlets trying to get footage, not wota or something.

Prompted what? What I said, or the actual rush?

Honestly, I know this isn't new. I was just saying it in general. Korean idol fans always spark up really fucking stupid shit. Didn't some crazy bitch put super glue in a boy band member's drink? Wasn't there a huge fan fight at some concert between 2 different groups once?

There were a lot of fans. Did you have the sound off or something? There were a lot of fangirls screaming, and I don't think the media would send women into a mob like that.

Is this supposed to mean that he literally wants to add these groups/people into his own agency, or that he wants to create a Japanese equivilant? Kangta makes the least sense, Tsunku isn't really known for producing male idols.

In all seriousness though, is Kangta still popular? I stopped paying attention to him after he released three damn albums of boring jazz.

I haven't watched the videos Trike was reacting to, but Korean fans have a pretty wide reputation for being crazy - particularly idol fans. Back in the golden era of boybands and girlbands, every time you turned around there were stories from the girls that basically lived outside of So-and-So's house about what he/she was doing that day, episodes where people threatened suicide after some member got into a scandal, attacks on rumored girlfriends, etc. That's not to say that there aren't plenty of crazy fans in other countries - the Koreans just seem to get the most media attention for it.

There is no way he is just gonna pick one. He is probably gonna pull something out of his ass and pull 5 girls or something. I don't know, but he should at least pick two because one might drop out. Korean fans are intense and super sensitive. It's why I <3 it here so much and I hate having to bite my tongue at other kpop forums. But anyway~ Yes they're insane. I think DBSK as the biggest single fanclub in the world and they're just...nuts. Creating rumors, trying to hurt others, etc. There was a girl on SGB last week that said she had a lot of anti-fans and they sent her a dead rat. It's horrible really. xX

Didn't Tsunku basically do exactly that? I'm fairly certain SM/JYP/YG didn't let go of any of their trainees. MNet (think the Korean equivalent of FOX or something, I guess?) just kind of helped him, and MNet isn't actually affiliated with any particular record label or entertainment agency.

Ah, Korean fans... oh come on, because posting pictures of your cum all over a picture of a teenage girl isn't weird or crazy? They're just crazier in a more... juvenile sense, because the idol groups tend to obviously attract younger fans.

And yeah, there was a big deal where a bunch of boyband and a rival girlband fanclubs declared a mini-war on a particular girlband during one concert.. it was basically a silent protest while the girlband was performing, but there were reports of other incidents, blahblahblah.

I dunno, being as there isn't really a truly competitive girl group equivalent in Japan (you're kidding yourself if you still think H!P counts), most of the JE fans remain happy and content that their boys are always and forever on top...

I'm not saying there aren't some/many batshit insane fans, because holy fuck, there ARE. Don't get me started, fanclubs even have in-fighting... but there's lots of normals, too. I think it's very extreme to make a generalization like calling them all scum. I could say all wota are scum for the jizz-on-the-pictures, but I don't.

Anyway! I'm super excited, as it's no secret that I've kind of converted to k-pop in recent times. I hope they find someone good, although I don't have high hopes - I'd think that the cutest and most talented Korean girls have already been snapped up by the Korean agencies, particularly since idol groups are on the rise there. But, hey, H!P's standards are a little more... lenient? So who knows. We'll just have to wait and see~

This kinda makes sense, but unfortunately, as weird as it sounds, this probably stems from how small of a country South Korea is, even compared to Japan. Stuff is pretty close together and it has to be way easier to find someone if you really want to. There's no one to blame for this, but yeah, I've seen some crazy stuff, especially in a lot of the Seo Taiji footage I've seen, there are some crazy ass fans. I don't think they're any more or less crazy that the Japanese wota/fans, they're just crazy in a different way.

There were no eyesores in this, either. I don't really think it's the new members or lost members that upset us old fans as much as the producers unveiled attempt to simply cash in on the success of groups like SNSD. It's basically like if Momusu went from Do it! Now to AKB48-style we-dress-in-school-uniforms-and-flash-our-panties! They might all be equally cute, but KARA was never a cute-type group before which is a serious let-down for those of us who aren't that fond of groups like Wonder Girls or SNSD.

Hmm so this is the audition Makoto was referring to during the HP Award concert.

But the way he made it sound seemed like it'd be exactly like the process for New Star, and this sounds a bit different. Though I assume some of it will still be televised as Makoto said it'd be broadcast in a program on M-net.

I'm looking forward to it.

In some ways it would make sense to add a couple of members into Berryz/Cute because you have to assume that one will graduate eventually and their member numbers will gradually decrease.

I can't speak for their popularity, but yes, the old Kara was better. The member that left had some serious lungs, and the songs they had just instantly grabbed me and got me hooked. Their two mini-albums and the singles off them have ranged from awful (Rock U) to good-but-still-not-as-good-as-their-first-three-singles (Pretty Girl). The member who left wasn't an eyesore, either, so I don't know where that comment came from.

What Ang said, also, as I think is evidenced by the best thing that they've made since the new generation joined: a cover of Lee Hyori's U Go Girl.

Edit: Why couldn't that have been their song.

I love Pretty Girl, so so much. I actually always thought it sounded like something H!P would do. The sound did change a lot but I like stuff from both old Kara and new Kara.

I gotta say though, I think the Kara girls have better vocals than most of H!P in the first place so I wonder how they would feel about being put there based on that.
