Se7en - Girls feat. Lil Kim
I don't know much about Se7en except that he exists, but I was about to log on into myspace, and on the music tab on the page of where you log in, his american debut song is featured.
Anyways, here's the song on the myspace website: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoID=53701934
Not really crazy about it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... eeping.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' />

Re: Se7en - Girls feat. Lil Kim
I loved this song so much more when Lil Kim wasn't in it. It's not her I don't like, per say, just the style of it. The notes she hits make it sound like she's singing an entire different song. But Se7en! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' /> I adore "Girls" otherwise. I didn't like it at first, if I remember correctly, but it grew on me till I kept it on repeat.
I think Se7en has the best chance of getting popular out of all the Korean singers trying to break in. Anyone know when his album is supposed to be released? Is he even doing one? I assume he is, since BoA is...

Man, Lil Kim looks HORRIBLE. I haven't seen her in years, but she looks like a used up prostitute. I also like how they tried to cover his Asian-ess by making the bulk of the video of him in shades.

Re: Se7en - Girls feat. Lil Kim
This is a perfect example of why I love foreign music more than American music. I'd probably like this song if it was in any language I didn't understand, but the lyrics are just too retarded for me. I'd like an instrumental though. :/

Re: Se7en - Girls feat. Lil Kim
I'm pretty sure this is a cover, but I can't remember who of. Either way, this is an awesome song, but something like this just won't get off the ground since they can't launch a marketing career based on the fact that he's Asian, unless he leaves his huge sunglasses on the entire time. Its pretty sad, cause this is a fun song, even if the lyrics are retarded, I like the music a lot. Seven has also done some good stuff in the past, so maybe my bias is a little less intense than some other people.
Re: Se7en - Girls feat. Lil Kim
Yeah what's up with the lyrics. Oh my god I now realize that I'd hate Idol songs SO much if they were sung in english (although I've read many translations and haven't felt that way). Anyways, the lyrics are retarded and his accent is the thickest of all the Asians that are trying to break it in America right now (BoA, Utada and him).
The song is cool, but it would be better if I didn't understand what he's saying. I do and it makes it all worse. xD
I've always thought that that dude is one of the best looking Asians in the entertainment industry so maybe that will be his catch? I wish him good luck.
On a second thought though, I think the lyrics thing goes deeper than that: I don't know why, they have the Asian singers have songs that repeat the same two or three words 200 times. I know that people like B. Spears (Womanizer) and Rihanna are doing that with some songs, but I really think it's annoying and it should be changed. After all, even though I don't undestand most of the Jpop-Kpop-Cpop lyrics, I know for certain that there's not too many songs that follow the format of repeating the word of the title 300x in the whole song. It's irritating.
And I want to hear bubblegum pop, dammit! That's what made them popular in Asia in the first place and that's what would be different in America, so why not do it?[/rant]

This has nothing to do with being asian, it's just mainstream-rap, has it ever been different since it has taken control of the pop industry ?

Yes, but isn't this supposed to be pop? I mean YES I know many pop singers are using rap elements, but still it frustrates me that these people are trying to do what everyone's doing already. I guess what happens is that I was like "OMG we're going to have JPOP (or Kpop or Cpop, you know what I mean <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ) in english and it's going to be sooo col YEZZZZ" but no, we have standard current american pop/rap sung with an asian accent. Boo.

Sorry Sorry and Gee are two prime examples that are hits in Korea right now. I'm brainstorming on J-Pop examples, but the best I could come up with was Yamapi's "Daite Senorita", but that's not... really the same, I guess. Help here?
I think what they're trying to go for here is that if the song's very repetitive, you're more likely to get it stuck in your head or remember it, and thus are more likely to go and get the song or look up the artist. Plus, with people's musical attention spans these days..
A collab with BoA would be fan-fucking-tastic, but I think there's some agency conflicts that would prevent that from ever happening, boooo.
Lil' Kim looks like vampy trash. She pretty much adds nothing, and... yeah, just ew. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/sick.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I know Se7en likes ALL them girls, but couldn't he have picked a less frightening one?

Doesn't Se7en sing R&B in Korea though? What I've heard of his music isn't that different from what's popular in America now, so this song isn't all that surprising. If say...Girls Generation came over to the States and released some song in the style of The Pussycat Dolls, then I could see feeling that way <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> But so far the artists attempting to cross over into the American market haven't strayed too far from their sound in their native countries, save for maybe BoA who has more variety to her sound in Asia.

I don't know, I think Gee is a little bit different, kind of in the way of Daite Senoirta. The same word is repeated, but it's done in between varied lyrics and isn't the chorus of the song. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, but in that song I feel less like I'm being bombarded with the same word over and over in lieu of an actual chorus, the way this Se7en song and Womanizer. That Sorry Sorry song is a great example though. It seems to be a trend in Rap and Dance music in general though, rather than being something that's used in all genres in either country. This is probably why I don't usually enjoy Rap or Dance music XD
As for this song, I'm not feeling it at all. Just like Utada singing about Photoshoping out her memories, I'm annoyed by Se7en telling me to Google him. But he's got a good voice so I wish him luck. I think he has as good a chance as BoA of making it with this style, and having Lil Kim in his video is a smart publicity move.

Re: Se7en - Girls feat. Lil Kim
I don't really like the song very much. Not really feeling the PV and the lyrics are kind of lame and repetitive. I notice just in general in English pop and rock songs, there is a tendency to repeat lyrics especially at the end of the songs, singing the same line over and over. Can't think of any examples right now though.
Big Bang is also part of YG family like Se7en, and they released some CDs in Japan which contained some remakes of their songs with English lyrics. The lyrics there weren't so cringe worthy so it can be done. *A*;
Actually, I just found this. It sounds better when he sings it live I guess because there aren't all of these sound effects his voice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN71k4Q3DWo
There are other songs from the same concert:
Money Can't Buy Me Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6HkWJ0Jld4...feature=related
You Got Me Now & La La La : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ophyjgiYxW8...feature=related
Money Can't Buy Me Love sounds a whole lot better so I'm kind of hopeful that the album will be okay. I guess they made Girls as his debut because of Lil Kim.
Anyway, I wish Se7en the best of luck in this though. I like his voice so I look forward to his future releases.

YOU CAN GOOGLE ME BABY
The song is easy to put on in the background and not really think about. I think the music video is fine for what it is, but I don't see this taking off at all. I'd definitely put this a notch below BoA in terms of recent crossover attempts (haven't heard Utada's new stuff).
Also, aggressive autotune is really not a good fit for Lil Kim <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hatthe.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
