I guess this fits better the Music Chat now, rather than H!P Chat. The new music really has nothing to do with most of her H!P stuff. (well, maybe a little bit of Glass no Pumps)

I personally like the song a little bit, it seems somewhat catchy to me, but I'm not sure if I'm going to listen to it more than once. That guy's voice is so annyoing...

I'm not particularly biased against avex, but I too think this is beyond horrible. I am so glad I never really cared for Maki in MM or solo, because seeing her degraded to a bling car hood whore would have been just too heart-breaking. If there was any irony and/or humour in that, I am failing to see and appreciate it. I only watched it through to the end because my bandwidth is precious.



Did anyone else notice that the "honeycomb" parts were strangely similar to some of Ayu's more trippy videos?

Clarifying what I said before people jump on me for being a closed-minded fuck. I don't really hate avex the label moreso than I hate what I like to call "avex Hell", which consists of upwards of 3 million women with weird/romanized stage names singing the same 3 or 4 recycled hip hop songs that even America wouldn't take as a collaboration with (never-)has-been rappers over and over until avex finally gets tired of them selling 12 copies every release and drops them on the same corner they found them.



This is where Maki is, and I don't think she'll get out.

Well. Uhhh. That was...interesting. The best part about this song is the fact that it's the first of her avex songs that I don't immediately forget even as I'm listening to it. The don don don don crap gets stuck in your head. And...she looks really hot in those honeycomb scenes? That hair is great on her. Other than that, it's pretty pathetic. The dance is just a train wreck. I'm not against the whole hump action sexy dance thing, but it can be done without making the dancer look like she's insane. The part where she's on the floor crawling and trying to pump her back at the same time are especially ridiculous. I like how this guy isn't even going for a Biggy Smalls version of fat rapper, he's just a fat kid bouncing around behind the wheel. The "I'm going to lose weight for you" line is A+ hilarious. And if she's going to crawl around on a car hood...couldn't that car at least be outside somewhere instead of sitting on a very obvious blank studio set? It's not like they lack budget, the rest of the PV shows they have some money to throw around.



Trike's post about avex Hell pretty much sums up where she's been since she started on avex. Generic R&B song after Generic R&B song with a ton of random collaborations does not a good album make. If this is all they have to offer her, she really was better off at H!P.

I am apparently the only person who really likes this XD I like the song, if I ignore the annoying fat guy. The dancing sucks, yes, but purely as a song I really like it, though I wish they'd ran with the whole honeycomb/bee them more than the...random rolling around on a car thing.

You are missing big point here. Maki is allowed to write her lyrics which is not possible at UFA. And this is why she moved to Avex.

I have the Sweet Black CD (8 tracks) which comes with a DVD that includes four music videos. None of them is the "Queen Bee" video most of you are talking about, and which I still haven't seen. The video I was referring to in my previous post (24 days ago) is "Lady Rise."



Anyway, the reason I bumped up the thread was to ask what Sweet Black is, as in "Sweet Black, feat. Maki Goto." She seems to be a solo performer here, although accompanied by different male singers on a couple of the tracks and female backups on "Lady Rise."

P.S. I like four of the eight tracks on the album. Still not the Maki I fell in love with on "Paint it Gold" and "Shiawase desu ka" but I love hearing her sing no matter what.

Sweet Black is just the name of her cross-media project (singing plus radio show plus whatever). According to her unsourced English wikipedia page, she chose the name and logo herself. So I guess it's only "feat. Maki Goto" so that people know who it actually is supposed to be, I don't think there is anyone else who could be a Sweet Black Girl (despite Girls being plural in her radio segment's title because I think it's about girls).

Thanks for that link. The most important thing is that she's working on new stuff and her career is in motion. Don't know how long we'll wait till the next release but at least we can be assured there'll be one.

I finally watched the "Queen Bee" video. I like it a lot. Why is it not included on the DVD that came with the Sweet Black CD along with the other new music videos? And according to CDJapan there doesn't appear to be a separate "Queen Bee" single V. So, the only place to see it is on YouTube?

No idea why Queen Bee wasn't on the album DVD.. My only guess is they started printing copies before the video was finished.

I don't know about the singles since they were all digital releases I think (though this should make sales extremely easy to calculate). Through unreliable internet searches, the album sold 5,630 for 26th place in Oricon's estimation of the CD's first week.
