Tsuji Opens a Shop on Poupee
Poupee is a Japanese fashion/SNS/doll dress up site. Essentially, you create a "Poupee" (doll in French if you use the proper accent mark) and dress her up with virtual clothes. The virtual clothes are sold mainly through "Catherine's Shop" (Catherine essentially being your host) and are bought with a fake currency called "ribbons" which you earn by playing the game. You can also buy game currency with real money, and this currency is called "Jewels." Recently, several "jewel-only" items have been sold on the site.
Part of the way you earn "ribbons" is by posting pictures of your own clothes/fashion items and receiving comments on them/giving comments to other people's items. The site has been sponsered by popular Japanese fashion brands (or foreign brands popular in Japan) such as Pinky Girls, Rose Life, Hello Kitty, Coach, Mabelline, etc. These brands will open up "shops" on the site and sell virtual clothes, purses, make-up, etc. for you to buy (with game-earned or real money bought currency) for your doll.
Recently, instead of having fashion brand themed shops, Poupee has had several "Celebrity" shops. The first was Kimura Kaela's, which ran for several months. After her's closed and the site gained the "jewel" currency, Poupee opened up an official "Celebrity Shop" which will apparently host several "celeb-designed" items. These items can only be bought with the "jewel" currency. Whether or not the celebs *actually* design the items or their people do it for them, who knows. The celebs also get their own poupee on the site and sometimes post pictures of their own items for comments.
Tsuji's shop is here. As you can imagine, the first items in the shop are enormous headbows. I kind of doubt she really "produced" these the way the message says ("Non-produced Items On Sale Now!"), because they all look pretty similar to items already existing on the Poupee site - I'd say some of them are simply recolors.
I know a few people here (i.e. Vanillacat and myself? ) play the game, is anyone planning on getting her items? I'm personally going to pass on all of it, none of it fits my style. Plus it looks kind of badly animated in comparison to the other stuff on the site. Why are the bows so blurry? @_@

The site is open to users worldwide and has a substantial foreign user base, so they've translated a lot of the site. If you view the site from a computer in Japan (or change your browser settings) it'll come up entirely in Japanese instead.

Is this "game" basically making paper/online dolls? I've seen the pictures in peoples' sigs and never knew they led you back to this big-eyed empire.

Essentially? The basic idea when it was created was to share your fashion style with other friends (you can make requests to other people to become "Poupee Friends" sort of like LJ friends or Facebook friends but with no privacy settings since you don't share the same kind of info). You can post pictures of real life clothing, bags, accessories, shoes, etc. that you own and tag it under the brand it belongs to. People can leave comments on the items and gain game currency by doing so. People who are more into the fashion aspect of the site usually post a longer description of the item that invites more detailed commenting (i.e. I inherited this from my great grandma stories, questions about how to coordinate the item, and so on). There's a whole "Fashion Jiten" which has news updates and info about new trends and looks and where you can browse items other people have post under different brands. Since the site is now hosted on ameba, a lot of people link up their ameba blogs with their poupee pages - that's probably how Tsuji got involved, since she's the most popular Ameba blogger.
A lot of people essentially ignore those aspects of the site in favor of spending all their time collecting and dressing up in the virtual items, so in that sense yeah it's basically an online version of paper dolls xD

That sounds like fun in a way, and if you're into fashion. It sounds like polyvore, but cuter and in cartoony mascot form.

Tsuji shows her poupee online? Tsuji wants to see your poupees? Tsuji's poupee has a hairbow?

I was thinking along the lines of if it was pronounced that way, it would sound a lot like "Tsuji opens her legs on TV" which may be a new career direction.

Re: Tsuji Opens a Shop on Poupee
I think Poupee is the gayest thing that ever gayed in the land of gay and don't understand the appeal even a tiny bit. And I'm a proper girl who loves shopping and fashion and has like 5 pounds of jewelry. It's SO Tsuji though! I'm forever impressed with how she turned her pregnancy into a good thing career wise.
it's just. Us finishing what we started in that hotel in Little Tokyo. - TnA

I predict that in a few years Tsuji will go pull a Kate and show us a photo of her baby's first poupee in the potty.
In the meantime, Tsuji is quite creepy in poupee form.

YES EVERYONE, SUBMIT TO THE POUPEE!
Mine!, in case you were wondering. If anyone wants to join, tell me, I can send you an invite thingee and we both benefit!
Basically, you do things (post pictures of your stuff, comment on other people's stuff, etc.) and get online currency, ribbons. You then use those "ribbons" to buy stuff for your doll/avatar. It's like playing with a Barbie, but online, and plus an actual fashion aspect (although, I suspect a lot of that aspect is mostly in Japanese... most non-Japanese poupee users I've met just do it for the aesthetic value).
I, however, have no credit card, so I can't buy jewels, which are the only way to get Tsuji items... I'm hoping they'll add more, because right now I'm not blown away by any of the items in her shop. The real outfits she takes pictures of herself wearing on her blog are much cuter~

Re: Tsuji Opens a Shop on Poupee
Nope, pretty sure those are produced by Tsuji. I think you're mis-reading the hiragana. It's not "Non-Tsuji Produced Items on Sale now". Rather it's "Non (aka what she calls herself) Produced Items on Sale Now."
I had been contemplating joining for a while, think I might just because it is adorable.
I joined that avatar world thing that Mari is on too but haven't done much on it. Amepic I think it's called, from the Ameba Blogs.

Nope, you're actually misreading my post. I was saying that even though the site SAYS that the items are produced by Tsuji, they're actually recolors of items that already existed on the site. The boots for example, are recolors of items you can win from the shell spring. The earrings are recolors of earrings you could get as a prize for buying jewels one month. She may have looked over their designs and given some input on the colors or something, but she didn't design these from scratch.

This is insanely addicting, so instead of playing it for free, I want to buy the ribbons or jewels.
I am really weak when it comes to fashion
But then does anyone know how the currency work? Like, how much USD is it for the jewels and ribbons?

This thread is getting more about Poupee in general and less about Tsuji Maybe a mod could split it?
Jewels equate directly to yen. 500yen = 500 jewels. They pretty much stick to the 100yen = $1 conversion rate. $5 gets you 500 jewels and no bonus item. $10 gets you 1050 Jewels and one of two prizes (you choose when you buy), $20 gets you 2050 jewels + prize, etc. You'll need paypal to do it, because the other methods don't work for foreign users. I think there's a new method for European users, but I'm not sure how it works.
After you buy jewels, you can convert them to ribbons, but you can't ever convert them back.
