BAM! NEW THREAD

Apparently MKB performed ロマンチックを突き抜けろ!~break it now~ ...way back in NOVEMBER.

Live preview

I like it more than some of the collab songs, but I don't imagine it's the killer track of the album. Also, I imagine a clear version will make me like it more.

What? On H!O I see that MKB had an actual 2009 tour DVD and that had some of the songs that are on this album. the setlist

Shindou Atsushi was responsible for the track 愛だ!今すぐROCK ON!????

I looked at that track and had a good feeling about it...

I dunno, based on last year's singles (apart from the Beat Crusaders one,) I'm thinking maybe they should be.

I really liked the last of their colab singles, I'm really looking forward to this CD and hope it just keeps getting better for the Melons after this.

I think I already like it more than the other tracks, and it's a scratchy radio version. Hmm... It almost sounds like they're saying "Damn it, I want you"

This is the review!

01. メロン記念日のテーマ (Rock Ver.)
Ehh, basically a hard sound followed by an E.guitar playing the familiar tune, no vocals. It's cute, but not really much effort, OH, they keep the Tsunku? saying "here we go!" at the end.

02. DON'T SAY GOOD-BYE I like the little touch of synth in the instrumental, I love the verses and the attitude, but it kind of goes away once they sing the chorus.

03. ピンチはチャンス バカになろうぜ! (Album Ver.) The only real addition is the talking before and after the song, it's a minor detail, but enjoyable. I love this absurd clown song. This way really fun in their concert DVD (they did it twice) I love how it's so nonstop and crazy. Plus the chants, the random non-sung parts, and the super dramatic finish. #1 choice of the singles.

04. sweet suicide summer story: Probably my (very-close-but-2nd-favorite) of the collab singles. I like to think of the piano in this as being played by someone's face. I like the "kankei nai kara~" parts, but my favorite is the "Kudaranai..Aa-!" (as my lyric choice revealed on my T-shirt)

05. 青春・オン・ザ・ロード It's a very sweet sound, I didn't give it much credit when it came out. I like the chorus where the collector vocals pop in. I like the distortion effects and I like Murata's line after the guitar solo.

06. メロンティー This was also overlooked. Now my 3rd pick of the collabs. The chorus is more catchy than I would expect from just repeating the title.

07. ロマンチックを突き抜けろ! ~Break it now~ It's like they took a moonstone and evolved Onegai Miwaku no Target. I really like the repeated lines and the percussion.

08. ALL AROUND ROCK: The song that was left last, I didn't hear this until the CD was out. It's very rare for the remaining song to become my favorite, but this did it! It's ska + spy + 60s Batman. Funny how most of what sounds like rock is actually LOCK. After the cool guitar solo, I like the sexy voice followed by the random mention of the philosopher JOHN LOCKE. Haha, I just noticed a line about Scotch with a Guinness chaser.

09. 愛だ! 今すぐROCK ON! Shindou Atsushi should have been called back sooner. I like how the chant tricks my ears with "Ima sugu! Iu ze! I WANT YOU - Ikinari! You Say! I LOVE YOU. The song has great energy, I listened to the radio preview so much that I am compelled to say "F.M. PORT" every time the song ends. The wedding bell "tone" that they imply near the end is cute.

10. ALWAYS LOVE YOU More Beat Crusaders synth. I really like the verses of this, and the chorus will probably be a tear jerker when they do this at the final concerts. I like the simple guitar parts during the chorus. I love that they each get such long solo verses, not very typical. Even more rare, Shibata doesn't come into the song until very late. Is her first line at 3:13? WOW.

I didn't care much for a few of the singles at first, but I really started to get into them right before the album came out, so I appreciate this album for each single, and each new song had something cool to offer me. I'm glad they put out a full album before they retired the group. I think the single order actually considers the progression of an album.

I'm happy with how this ended, if it truly had to stop the group, they accomplished quite a lot to conclude it. They worked with some interesting bands and got to be on a cover album in tribute to a beloved Japanese rock band. Not many acts who left H!P were as fortunate with the opportunities that MKB had. They were kind of ignored for so long and they finally got an honest effort put into their songs, after going 6 years without a full studio album. Melon Juice was a nice surprise though, I never expected solo songs to be released.

Now that this cd has had time to sit in, I shall review. As I listened to it for the first time I was overwhelmed. Happy that they're going out on such a high note, and sad that there won't be anymore after this. Truthfully, I'm glad they went out with such a bang, I expected MKB to disband without so much as a proper goodbye. I'm already going to name this as one of my top ten albums for the year, aside from the intro, there's not a single track I dislike.

01. MKB no Theme (Rock Ver.)
- Kinda mad a track is wasted on this. I hit the skip button everytime.

02. DON'T SAY GOOD-BYE I liked this song a ton when it came out, and was still listening to it pretty heavily before this cd came in. Hearing it in high quality was awesome, as was finding out the real (english)lyrics hahahaha.

03. Pinch wa Chance, Baka ni Narouze! (Album Ver.) I don't think this song had a ton of love on the board, and I didn't like it at first listen, but after hearing it more and seeing it live, it's such a crazy awesome song I can't help but love it. Each listen breeds more love.

04. sweet suicide summer story - this is such a chaotic song. The piano parts remind me of the piano break in X Japan's Art of Life, where Yoshiki starts banging on the keys with no rhyme or reason. It's so different from what they've usually done, and really stands out on the album because of it. I like it ton.

05. Seishun on the Road This song is so soothing and reminds me of the end of summer. Out of the collab singles, I liked this one the most because the chorus gets stuck in my head. It's not the flashiest of the singles, but I like the laid back vibe compared to the rest of the album.

06. Melon Tea A really fun song, the kind of song that's great in concerts. I can't complain about it, and again, I really like it.

07. Romantic wo Tsukinukero ~Break it nowSuch an awesome pumping song. To quote Sir Koolaid, OOOOHHH YEEEAAAAHHH.

08. ALL AROUND ROCK: And my rocking out continues. I love to drive to this song.

09. Ai da! Ima sugu Rock on! - LOVE. THIS. SONG. Sorry to sound like a broken record.

10. ALWAYS LOVE YOU - To say something rather embarrassing, I teared up when I first heard this song. Realizing it would be the last thing I ever heard from them, combined with what little I understood of the lyrics...yeah. It's a nice way to end an album and career.

I'm going to miss my melons.

Petit, I was about the same way. I was like "i-i-is it true melons. will you always love us."

As horrible as it is for me to say, it's my favourite of all the songs.

At least they're going out the same way Zone did, with an almost identically named B-side album (Ura-Melon, to Zone's Ura-E).

And I really hope that they'll all reappear as a new group on a new label, or that at least a couple of them will keep making music since they're all amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if UF kept Ayumi around just to turn her into more of a traditional idol.

I watched the five videos on the DVD that came with the CD, performances of what you're calling the "collab singles," in which they rock out with different rock bands. It's nice to see them performing together with male musicians and singers. And they're really enjoying themselves. It's fun and exciting to watch. I actually prefer watching the performances to listening to the CD. They do fun things with hair, costumes and makeup. They all look and sound great. Plus, there's five minutes of backstage footage from the tour. My only complaint is that the whole DVD comes out to about 27 min. Too short. If there's a concert DVD of all this, I want to get it.

I don't think the exact details are out, but their final B-side album has one more video from this album and at least a partial live concert. Also, not putting out a DVD of MKB's final performance would be unforgivable, so I imagine we'll have one by the fall.

It would be like that Richard Pryor documentary they released, which is actually a comparison I'd been making a lot recently.

He made it, in part, to refute many rumors going around. Was called, "Richard Pryor: I Ain't Dead Yet, Motherfuckers!!"

Then again, he died not too long after that documentary came out. So maybe that's not their best role model.

[/quote]

And it appears, unfortunately, that this comparison was dead on.

Except in this case, the delay between release title and death was much shorter.

HA, you see the joint suicide pact between you (I took your silence as a tacit agreement), me and Haru obviously had the desired effect and UFA crumbled before our combined onslaught.

Even though they heard nothing about it.

Ah well.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get a region two DVD player.

"Watched" the concert while cleaning today. As always, it was awesome. They have great chemistry onstage and their audience always seems to be more pumped than the other H!P girls. In fact, it was so good I watched it again after it finished. I'm going to miss them so much when they're gone.
