S/mileage wants your smile!

Everyone's favourite dictator Tsunku makes his appearance in a video message to the S/mileage girls telling them their major debut is in sight. HOWEVER, they have a mission to clear before their major debut. They need to collect 10,000 smiles and only have one month to do it.

So join the fun! Go to the S/mileage website and upload a picture of your smiling face to help these 4 adorable girls achieve their major debut in May. Should they fail, their debut will be postponed indefinitely. Results will be announced at the Mano S/mileage joint concert on April 3rd.

I was juuust about to make this topic, and then I went to the board again to make sure someone didn't already post it, and got beaten. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> My post had the pretty banner in it, too. I'll just paste the extra information and my thoughts here then:



Sooo I guess the basis is like, they're called S/mileage, so they need to capture people's smiles or something? I dunno. The scam is that if 10,000 people send in pictures of them smiling, S/mileage will be able to major debut in May. If not, it'll be "undecided" if they debut or not. Every picture that gets sent in will be posted on a "Mosaic Board". No idea what they'll do other than that. Too tired to boot up Rikaichan and read deeper, but I'm not sure if there's much more than that. Results will be revealed on April 3rd's Mano Erina & S/mileage concert.



I guess this might be interesting? I'm sure they'll hit the mark, and if they don't, there's no real proof needed to show that it's actually your face, so they could just fill up the remaining. I'm predicting that like, half of the board will be full of whities. Japanese people aren't too big on the "showing your face" thing, where as Americans will post their pictures wherever they can. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sigh:' />

That's kinda cool how he's taking it back to the old days like MM's debut. Saki's constant pout-face in the video is beyond adorable. I will definitely participate. If you think about it, 10,000 really is a LOT of people, so I hope they do reach it. If you think about how not even 1,000 people can attend any given H!P concert, and like some people said, Japanese probably aren't too keen on showing their face, it can give you a little scope. I hope this works out for them, they deserve the attention.

I imagine they will make some sort of a collage out of it, for the CD sleeve or booklet. Or a slideshow to fast-forward through during the concerts or in the PVs. If someone can read the fine-print on the site this should give some insight into what will the photos potentially be used for. In before whitey's faces are automatically rejected.

This is such a cute and fun idea. 10,000 really is a lot, they don't even sell that much do they?



I skimmed through the "fine print" and it seems fairly safe to send them your pictures. Most of the stuff on the site is about what not to do, like don't use a copyrighted image, don't use someone else's photo, don't submit your own photo twice, don't send a photo that doesn't fit the guidelines (i.e. it should be a photo of you smiling and not you flashing your titties/wanking on S/milage photos). They have the right to reject your photo if it breaks any of these guidelines, etc. I think they do say they have the right to change the color of your photo or otherwise manipulate it, which probably would be part of what they need to do to make the mosaic.



If you submit a photo and don't get a confirmation email, you'll need to submit it again. The email I got kind of sounds like you're supposed to get another email later, but I'm not sure about that.

just done some calculations, 10,000 pictures on a 4m *2m board gives us 8 cm² per picture (2cm * 4cm), gonna be hard to spot yourself on that unless they do close up shots of it
