It's a science fiction double feature~

No, not really. As in, no. But it was a double feature.

Saw Predators this weekend. It is 1. A Rodriguez film and 2. Faithful to the old Predator films therefore it does have many cheesy parts. Eh, I went in expecting boredom and vomit and got a decent way to waste time. Brody does the growl voice better than Bale. Though Bale gets points for allowing me to improv gay sex between him and Alfred when I wanna make some nerds mad. Soooo....go ahead and see it. Just turn off your brain. Really, if you leave it on then you'll end up hating the film. Because it is wildly illogical and the plot "twists" are stupid. But hey, there's a new Predator in town, so kill kill kill! BTW I don't know what anime Rodriguez watched for the yakuza's scene, but stop. No, put the DVD back in its case, no it is not a good idea, 止まれ pendejo!

And as a note, I for one make the motion to disprove any and all romance subplots in my action films. Especially since they're all contrived bs. Just let me see some guy kick some ass. If he wants to play with some titties afterwards, let it be some one night stand he got using his mojo from kicking so much ass.

Finally caught the A-team. It's alright/okay/meh. I think it would've been better to catch it off of DVD than pay the theater price. Well, in fact, you should probably catch Predators on DVD too. It's not worth theater price. The opening scene sucked, I don't know where Hollywood gets their ideas about mexicans/mexico, because it's off base. And mexicans don't use gringo for whities. I've never heard a mexican use gringo in my life. And how did a cholo get in Mexico? They don't wear that shit there. G-damn. Cooper has white teeth. Some blinding white teeth. I don't remember much about his character, I can't believe how white his teeth were. I always love Liam, too bad he was neutered in the end. Less prettyboy, more badass if there's a next time. I want Liam reading me war stories at bedtime every night. As for the other two, Copley stole every scene that they let him have a line. The real star of the film is he. The other one...who? Annoying whining with no bite when he needed it. Needed more charisma on screen because he was drowned out by the other three.

Inception. Holy shit...

I went in pre-hating because of the awful trailer and add campaign which made it look like a combination of Dark City and Minority Report, only to be knocked on my ass when the movie literally had NOTHING to do with what's been presented beforehand. Some people might sit though the first half going "talky-talky boring-boring!" but once you get to the second half, even pure action fans will go nuts. You are literally watching six movies at once and they all blend together wonderfully. I cannot wait for the home release so I can see how they pulled off some of the scenes in there. There's a certain hallway fight scene that was unreal.

Oh yes! I was wanting to see this purely for Leo but the news that it's not like the trailers makes me really happy. I'll edit this tomorrow once I see it~

When working all night, I decided a movie would be the perfect way to pass time. What else can I do, right? I've neglected to buy this film, but had a shitty rip (seriously, how the hell do I get crappy youtube quality from a 1.5 gig rip!?) sitting on the portable HD forever...time to watch!

Anyway, it's called "Dil Bole Happida" and it stars my goddess Rani Muhkerjee and Shahid Kapoor. The movie is a case of gender bending for a sport, and the usual hijinks ensue. It's predictable and cliche to the core, so I only recommend watching if you like the two actors. Rani pulls off a great performance, as per usual with her, and the onscreen charisma between her and Shahid is great. So...it was a good way to pass the time, but as for a film, it's below average at best.

Inception is the first film I watched in theatres twice within 24 hours. I saw a midnight showing. Then saw it again the next day in IMAX. Thriller, mystery, "spy" film, sci-fi/fantasy, there's even elements of a "disaster" film here. If Avatar, with its Pocaontas storyline, got nominated for an Oscar, then this film sure as hell better get one.

I finally watched Inception, and I will wait for a second viewing to discuss the film.

But, I will have this to say: As I walked out I had the feeling this film will become one of my top films of all time. I haven't had this much fun with a film in years. quickedit - At my showing, 7 people walked out throughout the course of the film. I find this amusing. It may have been that it was too complicated for them to understand, after all, this is the same place that had people walk out of Pan's Labyrinth because quote "What the fuck are they speaking spanish for? this is america! Goddamn mexicans taking over our movies too" or they may have been bored. How you could be bored with this film is beyond me.

hey, I read something really cool relating to that yesterday! Did you know if you think about those vampires scientifically, they're giant bugs? Read it!

I know this is a bot, but it is really a funny/interesting article for those people that require O2 to survive.

I watched the Invention of Lying the other day with my brother. That was painful. The movie has its funny moments, but I had to spend most of the time explaining the movie to my brother.

Bro: How do they not know he's lying?

Me: It doesn't exist in this world.

Bro:How can lying not exist?

Me: It's established in this world, lying does not exist, therefore we believe it does not exist.

Bro: That makes no sense.

Me: What, you think Transformers makes sense? Giant robots falling to earth?

Bro: It's ALIENS! Of course they don't exist in this world.

Me: What, you think Skynet is going to take over?

Bro: IT'S THE FUTURE, DESI. Come on! Stupid.

Me: God dammit, there is no lying in this world because it is an alternate universe earth!

Bro: -mimicry- So why don't they figure out he's lying?

ALL. MOVIE. LONG. It was the conversation that would never end. It would go around in circles and the worst part is that it didn't end after the movie ended. I'd say it's the last time I watch a movie with my brother, but that seems to be the only way we can bond. Inception this weekend should be interesting!

I'm going to watch Inception next week with a few friends too.

Usually we have our jokes now and then during the movie, but it's ok. We certainly don't have such conversations during the film like you had with your brother.

Normally we don't have conversations until after the movie. He just refused to acknowledge the rules of that world. Sad too, the movie was pretty funny from what I caught.

Watched the 5h long Red Cliff 1 & 2 (asian uncut version) over the last two days.

Surprisingly it wasn't boring at all. John Woo's best movie in a long time. Probably THE best John Woo movie, since I'm not a big fan of him.

Also finally watched Watchmen. The theatrical version.

An absolutely well done super heroes movie. I also liked the slow pacing a lot. I'm probably going to watch the Ultimate Cut some time, which has an additional 1h of footage.

I keep hoping we'll get another hard R superhero flick like Watchmen, but I don't think it'll ever happen. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I think the Ultimate Cut just includes that animated ditty they released, in which case you're not missing much.

I saw "Dinner for Schmucks" because my movie cronies are sick of my fangirling for Inception and wouldn't okay "Salt". <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' /> I will see my Jolie this weekend! And then some JGL working the suit, cause goddamn.

It has its funny moments. But I didn't like how there were several scenes where you're made to laugh at him instead of with him. It makes me feel bad and cuts my enjoyment of the movie. That said, Carrell plays the most perfect airhead I have ever witnessed in my life. The mice artworks were cool too. I don't care if we're supposed to think they're weird, they remind me of the days when all children's books/movies were anthropomorphized mice and thus totally cute! Anyway, if you want to see it, wait for a rental. Even then there are better comedies out there.

If you mean R-rated with R, then iirc Kick-Ass, which was also a very good movie, maybe even better than Watchmen, was also 18+ rated.

Hard R is how I describe something that would normally be considered NC-17. Like The Dark Knight, I'd consider it to normally be an R film, but it was rated PG-13 (i.e. hard 13). The rating system here is utterly confusing and inconsistant and thus I make up my own ratings system which will only confuse more. Sorry!

I saw Koreeda's Air Doll (kuuki ningo). It was soo beautiful and soo tragic. The imdb comments are, of course, totally inane and the rotten tomatoes score is abysmal. Maybe it is because the movie was drastically cut down to about 90 minutes for the indie theatre release? The original is a little over 2 hours.

I've been watching a lot of movies!

I saw Oldboy a week or so ago and was really disappointed. I came in with completely the wrong expectation (after having seen the awesome 50 vs. 1 fighting sequence in a top ten of badass moments in film), namely that this would be an action film with great cinematography, beautifully choreographed out fights and a silly story, a-la early John Woo. Instead, it was a super serious, super slow psychological melodrama with the occasional violence usually in the form of gruesome and extended torture scenes, but almost no real fights at all. Since there was no action to speak, I focused in on the story and... I didn't really like it. It made very little sense and took itself incredibly seriously (I was gonna try to do some kind of "no tongue-in-cheek" reference, but I couldn't figure it out. If you've seen the film, you know what I mean.). Half the time I was laughing at how overblown everything was, and the other half I was just bored cause the pacing was so sluggish. Really disappointing stuff. Nice cinematography though (although that color filter annoyed the fuck out of me, as it always does.)

A bit later I saw the darkly hilarious Observe & Report, about a mall cop who takes his job a little too seriously. When a flasher shows up in the mall, he tries to score points by cracking the case, but the real police get involved too, with a detective rubbing him the wrong way especially. This premise sounds like a setup for goofy slapstick, but actually it's played almost frighteningly straight, and all the characters are pretty realistic. It's cringe-comedy, in much the same way that Jody Hill's other work is (Foot Fist Way, Eastbound and Down). Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I love this guy's work, and I was impressed with the high quality production on the whole thing. His other work usually has more of a pseudo-documentary cheapo style going, but this looked pretty Hollywood.

And finally, I just came home from seeing Inception and absolutely loved it. The only downside aside from Leonardo DiCaprio (who honestly gave a solid performance) was that the action sequences were typical for Nolan--too close, too many cuts, super chaotic and hard to follow. It did get better as the movie progressed, but especially some early action sequences were so chaotic I ended up wanting to take my glasses off so I could zone out. I guess I also expected more surreal imagery, and the "paradox" thing was really underdeveloped and quite frankly unnecessary. However, I did love the way they didn't go on and on about "what is reality" or any such nonsense, and just went for their concept wholeheartedly. I usually am iffy about "dream" movies, but this one did it about as well as I can imagine it being done. I thought the sound and music were fantastic.

The Expendables- I'm so glad they didn't fuck it up by giving it a plot. It was 100 minutes of people getting shot, stabbed, punched and blown up. And that was exactly what it needed to be.

My dad rented Hot Tub Time Machine yesterday and, despite watching it with about 70% attentiveness, I kind of enjoyed it. It ended a little suddenly and don't get me STARTED on the science of a hot tube that travels through time (seriously, that was your issue with that movie?), but I thought it was decently funny. Seeing Rob Corddry with cum on his face was an unexpected gem though.

I dunno about fantastic, but then I'm not really a fan of love stories, so those parts of the movie dragged a bit for me. The FUN stuff was a lot of fun though, the battle with the Katayanagi Twins being one of my favorite parts. That, and seeing Superman as a super saiyajin vegan. This is the first movie I've seen starring Michael Cera, and I have to say he started annoying the living fuck outta me halfway through. I laughed extra hard when his gay roommate quipped "and you were worried about ME gaying up the place?" because GOD he's such a douche. Admittedly, I've never read the comics & I've only played through the 1st level of the PS3 game, but is this really how the character is supposed to come across? I got the impression that Scott at least had some attitude from the game & comic covers, Cera seems to only have that when he's in a fight, and then it's kind of a stretch to believe it.

Anyway, fun movie overall, but I think it could've been better with another lead.

Yeah, I have mixed thoughts about Michael Cera in the movie, but overall I'm alright with it. I haven't read the comics either (and got to the 3rd level in the game) but I got the same impression you did.

My only real beef with any aspect of the movie was how Ramona was portrayed. I thought they were going build her up to be this perfect dream girl way out of Scott's league, and they didn't really do that. I felt like that buildup needed to be there so we could really understand why Scott was so drawn to her, but she just comes across as any other girl.

But yeah, I really did enjoy the "fun" parts of the movie that you described. I loved the use of the "vs." before each fight, and the whole "extra life" do-over of the last fight.
I honestly wasn't expecting a whole lot out of The A-Team, but wow was it a helluva fun movie! Liam Neeson's Hannibal is considerably gruffier than George Peppard's was, but he still has enough charm & sort of commands a bit more respect as a leader, so it works out as an overall improvement. Quinton Jackson however, is no Mr. T. The guy's just not MEAN enough when he needs to be. There's a moment shortly after his (spoiler alert!) jailbreak where I thought they were about to completely nerf the character of B.A., but thankfully it's resolved by the end of the movie.

Aside from a couple borderline slapstick moments, a borderline annoying villain, and a couple textbook "why the fuck don't you just SHOOT the guy now?" moments, the whole movie's pretty tight & packed with some pretty clever action scenes. "I love it when a plan comes together" is probably the TV show's most famous line, and this movie has a number of plans that are explained at the right moments & in thoroughly entertaining ways. If they make more A-Team movies with this cast (and B.A. gets his REAL balls back) and they can make them at least this much fun, I'll gladly pay to see them.
We just watched this last night, and I was pretty happy with it. The final scene on the dock was a bit over the top and cluttered, which I found difficult to follow, but overall I thought they did a better job with A-Team than any of the other 80s TV show film adaptations. Liam Neeson is great, and Sharlto Copley's Murdock is awesome, if a bit less crazy than the original. As I watched, I kept wondering how James Roday would have worked as Face Man, not that Bradley Cooper sucked in the role, but Roday's comedic timing would have lent itself well to the movie. Rampage Jackson as B.A. Baracus was the casting I was most concerned with, but the only real problem with it is the script. There were brief moments when I had no problem believing he was Baracus, but for long stretches of the movie I was thinking "B.A. doesn't just stand for Bosco Albert, fools!"

I thought the method they used to explain the plans as they were developing before you was the perfect device for this movie, as it kept an otherwise overly long movie tighter. This could've been a total disaster, though, and ultimately I was left hoping they make a sequel.

We just watched Ong-Bak 3. If you like Tony Jaa, don't see this movie. It is indescribably bad. Even the fight scenes are disappointing. It's so bad I'm kind of pissed, and I didn't even have to pay for it.
