The New All Purpose SNSD Thread

Post by Shoujo Q »

I was away and NO one posted this?

Image

SNSD's Japanese name is Shoujo Jidai if you haven't guessed by the title and they released a teaser for their upcoming Japanese single, Genie. Why they chose Genie for their debut I'll never know.

Anyway watch it here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVJ6FssZKD8

Single will be released on 9/8 in two editions! Buy it today and crush AKB48! Hoorah!

I also do not fucking understand Genie. I HAAAAATE that song. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' /> I really wish they would have gone with Gee since it seems like it would stick better, but I guess there's the problem of singing a tongue-twistery song like Gee in a language you don't know, but still. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' /> Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby.

What are they even saying in the preview? Yousei ni naru wa? Yousei means fairy, not genie. :T

Kara had the butt dance and SNSD has the legs. ;D What did 4Minute have? D:

Anyway, If they remove the car bit from beginning of the song I'll be happy, that always annoyed me. :<

PS. I fixed the link, the other one died. :<

I love "Genie" and think it's the perfect song to lead their way into Japan. Follow it up with "Run Devil Run" then "Gee", and show Japan what a good girl group looks like. Girls Generation is the best girl group in the world right now.

"Shoujo Jidai" doesn't seem as catchy as "Girls' Generation" or "SNSD".

Best of luck to them! Japanese girl groups need a serious kick in the ass, and Girls' Generation has the legs to give it to them. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... imshot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

So Nyuh Shi Dae (SNSD) translates in English as Girls Generation <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... joyful.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

Jidai (時代) is more like epoch/era, but it's a good choice otherwise. 少女ジェネレーション (shoujo genereeshon) would have probably been more accurate, but they were probably trying to go for something that was fully japanese so it doesn't seem like the girls are not japanese.

They could have used Sedai (世代) for "generation" if they wanted it to stay all Japanese - I doubt they're trying to hide the fact that these girls are Korean. Since Kpop is trendy, the fact that they're Korean is probably an extra selling point. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

They should have just stuck with the English "Girls Generation" to keep it simpler. It was always so annoying how TVXQ/DBSK/Tohoshinki had 500 names. Or three.

I agree, and it's not like any JPop group ever failed to chart because of the use of English in their name.

When I first became a fan I read a lot of these "bitch" accusations too. They are mostly just rumors, though, spread by jealous CRAZY anti fans. I think they stem from Tiffany being Korean American and slipping up on a couple customary Korean relationships between junior and senior (when they first debuted). Tiffany has that American, outgoing, and talkative personality- which anti fans blew up as being disrespectful to her seniors. BTW, Jessica is Korean American as well :] . They both went to the same high school in California I think...

There are a lot of "Anti 9girls" and "Anti SNSD" videos on yt it seems.

Some of them are... weird...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUbTSuCAU6c

I have a feeling there are weeaboos for Korea too that randomly use Korean words in their English sentences.

Some even go as far as saying Tiffany was found on porn sites. And some say (and I quote a video here): "The reason why SNSD had a lot of albums sold; their fans bought more than one album. Newsites were giving SNSD's CDs away. Fansites did the same. And what else triggred their album to surpass the 20,000 sales mark ? The insides of the CD.

It's basically soft porn."

That's pretty retarded, thanks for sharing!

Anyway, Anti's aren't (predominantly) non-Koreans though, this is a very Korean thing to do. For all the awesome that is contained within the Korean idol industry (extremely talented, skilled, hard-working, funny and willing to take the micky out of themselves), the fans are by far the worst part. They almost ruin the whole thing and I try to forget they exist. Maybe that's why Koreans want to break out to China and Japan, to get away from the fucking fans.

Anyway, here's a link with picture+name of each girl. However, what really got me into them was a program on Korean MTV that gave profiles for each member of SNSD. If you're interested, check it out, I'll link the first part on Youtube for each member (you should be able to find the subsequent parts in the related links). They're slightly outdated, since they did this when they debuted, but it gives a pretty good profile to remember them by, and I thought it was entertaining to watch.

Taeyeon--airhead leader, short in stature, and one of the better singers. She sings the high note at the end of Genie, she's pushed as being the main singer usually. Very down to earth personality.

Sunny--almost certainly my favorite, the "aegyo" queen (aegyo is sort of over-the-top cutesiness, I guess. Korean subbers are idiots who don't translate half the words). Has a good sense of humor. She's also a really good singer, but usually doesn't get that many lines. (Check this out)

Jessica--"ice queen", as mentioned she is one of the two who came from America. However, she seems to be much more versed in the Korean ways, and for English lines they tend to go to Tiffany. Great singer.

Yoona--overwhelmingly the favorite when it comes to looks (don't ask me why, I have several members I would pick over her). She has a great cheeky personality. Not a great singer.

Tiffany--supposedly impolite because she's not used to Korean customs. She is always smiling. She's one of the group's best singers.

SooYoung--sort of mature-looking, debuted in Japan (so it's likely she'll be leading in a lot of interviews). She's not the best singer ever, but a great dancer and a fun personality. Sometimes act as the second leader when Taeyeon is being too airheaded.

Yuri--the "black pearl", apparently because she has dark skin(???), she has a sort of natural appeal. Very pretty girl. Decent enough singer.

Seohyun--the youngest member, "scared of boys", and just generally scared easily. Kind of a smart kid, plays piano. Pretty decent singer, I guess.

Hyoyeon--the dancing member! Doesn't usually sing much, but is a really good dancer and sometimes even helps come up with choreo.

The picture? Not quite sure, a friend linked me to it. Probably soshified since that's the source for most international SNSD stuff.

Here's a bad fancam of the Japanese PV, which looks really cute. Definitely looking forward to the HQ version of that, the girls all look great, and it's much cuter than the Korean video. I have to get used to the Japanese lyrics though... I've listened to the Korean version so much that the Japanese sounds really awkward to me.

I agree with everything you say. My favourite is Yuri.

@eri; Oh! is definitely like crack. It's my favourite song. Gee was the first one I liked (and also their first single afaik), then came Genie and Boyfriend. The Genie/Oh! Mini-Album is also pretty good and has some nice catchy songs.

EDIT:

About the japanese Genie; is it just me or do they still sing Korean at times ?

I also think many think of Tiffany as a bad person just because she likes to joke around, which in my book is nothing bad. I can see why people dislike her, but I myself am neither uptight nor jealous. hah
