[Single] Oshare My Dream vs. Elegant Girl

On October 13th the single, Kitagami Mimi with MM Gakuen Gasshoubu / Ibu Himuro - Gokujo!! Mecha Mote Iincho: Oshare My Dream/Elegant Girl will be released.



Although this will be the 7th single for Ogawa Mana under the Kitagami Mimi name, this will be the first for Risako Sugaya with her Anime character Ibu Himuro. This also marks Risako's solo debut.

As much as I love Ogawa, the song probably isn't my favorite of the Mimi series, Risako's I was very surprised, but only slightly. The song fits her character very well as well as what little of the PV there is and she isn't forcing herself. I kind of got worried near the high notes but she managed through. Can't wait to hear the whole song though.

Wow, Risako's song is some kick-ass old school H!P R&B sound. Sounds great and I'd like to hear the full one, but I can't help but feel like her track is very auto-tuned, but its done sorta subtle-ly. Mana's is pretty boring, and though a lot of her stuff is amazing to me, I haven't even listened to any of the Meccha Mote singles since Genki ni Nare. Its cool to see the series getting more diverse outings besides MMGG and Mana.

However, I'm not familiar with Ogawa at all. What's her story? Is she any good? Any relation to any other H!P Ogawas?



I'd be a lot happier if it was just a Risako deal.

Mana Ogawa is a member of Canary Club from NGP. She's released one album already, Teenage Blues, which I highly recommend. She also voices a character (Mimi Kitagami) in an anime named Gokujou!! Mecha Mote Iinchou and released several singles that were used as opening and ending themes for said anime.



Anyway, I really loved Teenage Blues, but I haven't really been following the anime singles very well. This song's alright, IMO. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's a fun pop song and I enjoyed it. On the other hand, Risako's song is pretty damn awesome. I'm really liking the production. Very sleek and mature.

Ogawa Mana was in a group ? (wikipedia does not say anything about her being in a group)

Mana Ogawa is a member of Canary Club, but I think he was referring to Risako rather than Mana because the latter girl's group is hardly "big" (not to say it isn't great, though).

To clarify, I was commenting on how I think Risako will follow in the footsteps of Mana.

...and that the pairing made me think "this is the present(Mana's career), but this is the future(Risako's career)"

Basically, Ogawa Mana is Tsunku's golden child from TNX and Nice Girl Project! She's extremely talented as a ballerina, singer, actress, and model. Girl's got it all and I love her. <3

Just to rain on the Risako love-fest a little, I found the song fairly dull and generic and her voice lifeless and a little strained in places. Mana's song is OK, bright and happy, but she's worth much better than this as Teenage Blues (which is excellent) clearly shows.

I keep reading the title as "Elephant Girl"



Risako's song really does sound like a Berryz song, just with only one of them singing it this time.



I wish MM Gakuen would go back to doing more in these songs than playing instruments in the background of the videos and screaming "YEAH!" Ogawa's outfit is sufficiently ridiculous for me to like. I think it's the pink socks that clinch it.

Risako looks like the misunderstood rich girl that has no friends and Ogawa's like the popular girl that has all the friends.



Despite the boring PV, the whole song wasn't bad. I wonder if she'll sing this at a Berryz concert?

I never found Risako to be particularly interesting, but she looks good in this.

Thanks to all the recommendations, I got Ogawa's album, "Teenage Blues" and have listened to it a couple of times. Wow. This girl is good! She has a great voice and is comfortable singing different pop styles. She reminded me of Kaori Mochida (Every Little Thing) and old-school Seiko Matsuda. As well as old American pop star Connie Francis ("Lipstick on Your Collar" was probably one of the very first pop songs I was aware of as a young child). I hope they don't screw up her career.



Oh, and I'm waiting for my shipment of the Ogawa/Sugaya CD.
