Eri, there needs to be a 7th album listening party, you have missed a very good album. Previews don't do it justice.

Also, about 3rdLP album...

OK, listened to the album. Was pretty disappointing overall. Only Fantasy ga Hajimaru is good. Of all the awesome album openers though, SONGS is probably my favorite still. Moonlight night is my favorite when I feel like listening to embarrassing music.

Eri's song is STILL boring. It's more upbeat than all her other songs, but still not great. I'd been hoping for an upbeat solo from her, but nooooo, it's still boring.

Sungoi My Birthday is a Tanpopo# song. Also, they're saying BARTHDAY. What happened to baa-su-day or something. I thought this was one of the worst songs of the bunch, but it's actually stuck in my head.

I'm Lucky Girl is this album's Ooki Hitomi.

All the solos bored me to tears.

Anyways, thanks to Em-El's radio I realized the album came out. And I was listening to it on there for a long time! See we appreciate your radio efforts!

I walk on stage and pic up the mic, turning my steely gaze upon the huge audience I say just one word "Meh".

I put down the mic and as I turn to leave the light catches my proud features, as one the audience rises to give me a standing ovation and as a smile plays across my full lips women in the audience and those men of a gay nature sigh and several pass out. Maybe I am not alone in my battle against the Kusanagi Tyranny

Where's the fun in that?

The whole point of this BBS is to:

a) Agree wholeheartedly with somebody

<img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':punch:' /> Disagree totally with somebody

c) Completely misunderstand somebody's comments

d) Take somebody's comments personally and start a flame war

e) Get upset and go off in a huff

f) Blindly stick to your point of view no matter how reasoned anybody else'e opinions are

I love this BBS.

Yeah, 7 was their last really good album. 9 was decent. This new album is just blah. Boring songs sung by boring girls.

Quick listen through and first impressions...

1. Seishun Collection

2. Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game

I like this ridiculously EPIC opening. I like this song - it is fun.

3. Bravo!

Hm undecided.

4. Sungoi My Birthday

Aggressively cutesy but catchy enough - I like the little "chu lu lu lu". I guess this is the Lemon Iro to Milk Tea of the album.

5. Otome Gokoro to Nanto Yara

Everything about this song annoys me.

6. Ichi Kara Juu Made Aishite Hoshii

Ah and we're back to chorus singing with requisite "Yeah!" and horns in the background. Too bad this song is completely forgettable.

7. Denwa de ne

No.

8. Fantasy ga Hajimaru

A fun, unique song. Thank god.

9. I’m Lucky girl

This sounds like a robot cheerleader routine (bad) mixed with a shoujo anime magical girl's fighting song (good).

10. Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni

Hm. I'm undecided - I don't like her as a soloist but the song is alright...

edit: well, I did just skip ahead after 1 min so this song is boring after all <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

11. Ai no Honoo

This is AWFUL. What the hell Reina? This just proves not everyone can/should be a soloist.

Finally had time to sit down and listen to it.

1. Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game- I think I'm the only one around here that doesn't like this song. Still blows goat ass.

2. Bravo!- I like girls. I like guitars. I like songs sung in chorus. Awesome.

3. Fantasy ga Hajimaru- Fun, catchy, epic trance Sayu.

4. Otome Gokoro to Nanto Yara- Kind of funky and laid back with more chorus style singing. I like.

5. Ai no Honoo- Putting "fire" in the title of the song implies passion and spirit, not boring ass Reina. Die in a fire.

6. I’m Lucky girl- Kind of dig the old school Folder Five vibe, but still a meh filler song.

7. Sungoi My Birthday- Like minimoni and Tanpopo pounded out a baby with Downs Syndrome. More meh filler.

8. 1 Kara 10 Made Aishite Hoshii- Fuck, it just keeps getting worse as it goes along. Pass.

9. Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni- Finally, something not totally ass. A decent upbeat ballad.

10. Denwa de ne- Shitty arrangement, but Ai sounds awesome, so it passes. Just barely.

11. Seishun Collection- I think I'm the only person around here that likes this song, and I still like it. Yo' Mama.

So out of 11 songs, there are only four I'd listen to repeatedly and one's a single. Not their worst album, but definitely near the bottom and a huge disappointment considering that I thought their last was their best album in years. Just go ahead and break up the damn group, Tsunku, since it's like you're not even trying anymore. It's obvious all the effort is going into the other groups now with MM hanging on by the support of its ever-dwindling fanbase.

So, it's not even one year removed from what you considered the best album in years; and, after a mere misfire in the very same year, you're saying the producer isn't even trying anymore?

~Taking your bratty daughter to shop for a new doll~

You arrive at this toy store, and think, geez, I was JUST here in March.

She eyes a dramatic display case for the special edition Russian doll. What really makes this a special edition? It's just minor changes, but the dress is so elegant. Can you justify the price? Can you put a price on your daughter's love? Moving on.

This next doll is really hyper and keeps repeating the same line, and in a weird way, makes you want to join it. This could get annoying, fast. Next

She approaches a fantasy princess doll with a soft whispering voice feature. Your daughter thinks this is the coolest one so far. Might come back to this one.

The next one is sweet and comes with a little music box. It's very catchy, but the doll itself has been known to be obnoxious.

Now, the winking doll. You are reminded of the Maki doll from late 2007. It's okay, but your daughter doesn't find this to be as interesting.

She is soon distracted by the Robo-Doll. This could be the one!!! It's well constructed, reasonably priced and she really likes it. You read over the description and your daughter takes this opportunity to wander off. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [is that what you named her? It's pretty, is that German?]

You run to another aisle, she zips around a corner to evade you. Why is this store so big? Oh, there she is, with the My 8th Birthday Doll. It's cute and made by a very trusted company. BUT IT'S NOT THE ONE.

Now she spots a big set of dolls. No way, not happening. They're cute, and you could finally leave this damn store, but there are better choices. Quick, find something to distract her [what do you find?]

How about an Elizabeth doll, sweetie? This has been around for about 6 years, but has improved so much since debut. She kind of likes it, but then drops it and runs off again. [You need a leash for this kid.]

She picks up an Ai doll. It comes with a phone accessory, the doll seems sad, but your daughter finds it to be beautiful. [but not beautiful enough]

Not again! Well at least she's running out of options. This doll is okay, but you then realize why she ran to this one. It's because it's like the one you got her in March. So what does she pick?

The store is closing in 4:41 minutes, and she has decided. You are ready to checkout. [Yeah, as in put a bullet through your brain]

You leave the store. She runs over to your beat up station wagon with her brand new Robo-Doll and Fantasy Princess Doll.

(I'm Lucky girl & Fantasyが始まる)

[Two dolls? You really are a sucker. Well, she'll be happy with these for a little while]

It's been a couple of days and the album's mellowed on me, but I don't think it's any major disappointment. It's more rushed than their last two, but at worst it's a decent stopgap until they release something else. It's relatively cohesive, and it's got at least 3-5 album tracks I could see myself listening to a while from now, which is better than most pop albums. Overall, it feels like a transitional album, what with JunLin and Eri leaving. There'll probably be more effort put into their twelfth album.

1. Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game- I like opening, other than that, I've already heard this song and so meh.

2. Bravo!- I didn't like it at much first, I hate the "BURABO BURABO" parts, but I love the "Kai kai" parts

3. Fantasy ga Hajimaru- LOVE<3

4. Otome Gokoro to Nanto Yara- I really like it, it's interesting! Risa ftw!

5. Ai no Honoo- It's actually not as bad I thought it would be, but it's Reina so bleh, but it's okay I like it normally.

6. I’m Lucky girl- This song really grew on me~ I really like it!

7. Sungoi My Birthday- I love this song~ I love the cute songs~ This song works good for Aika.

8. 1 Kara 10 Made Aishite Hoshii- Ehhh, nothing special, just a somewhat boring concert song.

9. Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni- I love this too. EDIT: but listening to it again I wish they had left JunLin out of this, the song doesn't fit their voices well. But this song is perfect for Reina and Eri, I love both of their voices here.

10. Denwa de ne- Kinda boring.....I love Ai but...I liked Reina's song better, but listening to it again, I really like this one best...<3

I think they gutted the 2010 shuffle to make this album happen. We don't get 9 new songs even when they take 2 years to put out a studio album. So this becomes magically possible in half a year?

I imagine it would have been something like this...

Hello! Project -

(S/mileage)

08. 愛しく苦しいこの夜に (真野恵里菜)

09. I'm Lucky girl (あぁ!)

10. 女心となんとやら (ZYX-α)

11. 愛の炎 (HIGH-KING)

12. Fantasyが始まる (続・美勇伝)

13. Our Songs (Buono!)

14. Going On! (ガーディアンズ4)

15. エレガントガール 氷室衣舞(CV 菅谷梨沙子/Berryz工房)

16. ○○がんばらなくてもええねんで! (TopNude Remix Version 02) (S/mileage)

The Reina & Takahashi solos could have easily been a HIGH-KING single & c/w.

(and the line distribution would remain unchanged.)

FINE! I'll also chime in on the album. I guess it couldn't hurt to have heard an MM album from this decade.

1) Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game - God, I just hate this song. I like the new opening, but I'm really tired of the Russian-style songs and it just isn't a style that lends itself to playing with rhythm. Also DAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Also also DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

2) Bravo! - Not bad. It's just a tame Melon song though? It doesn't help having all 8 girls singing on it at once. THE MEMBER COUNT IS TOO DAMN HIGH. Also SUKI SA SUKI SA SUKI SA SUKI SA

3) Fantasy ga Hajimaru - Can't review; spent the entire song trying to figure out where that intro harmony is from. Seems okay, though the rhythm is so stabby. Stabby-stabby. Also SEKUSHI (sekushi) FANTAJI (fantaji)

4) Onna Gokoro to Nanto - "Oh, this is a cute int-- NOPE.AVI" Again, a stabby singing song. GOD. Also YEH YEH YEH

5) Ai no Honoo - The poorman's PG-13 Melodies. REINA DOES NOT GET AN ALSO <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /noway.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' /> Also <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /noway.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

6) I'm Lucky Girl - bleh. Also AM RUCKII GARL

7) Sungoi My Birthday - An attempt at Tanpopo? Aika, spit that peanut butter out! Drop it! Drop it! Release! God, will we ever get a truly intense, body-shaking MM song? Also CHU LOO LOO LOO

8) Ichi Kara Juu Made Aishite Hoshi - Again, I'm too busy trying to figure out what three songs those horns rip off in the intro to listen to this GO GIRL clone. It's part Tank! and part Sakuranbo and part something else.

9) Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni - What is this, the credits for an upcoming Hot Shots Golf game? (insert clips of insane shots from playtesting and ching-chong names) Also MEEDLY MEEDLY MEEDLY MEEDLY MEEDLY MEEDLY MEEDLY MEEEEEEE

10) Denwa da ne - <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... eeping.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' /> Also <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... eeping.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

11) Seishun Collection - What a shitty and exacting rip-off of Nanchatte Renai. Also :amdisappoint:

I guess this is why I don't listen to MM anymore. 'This' being all of that in the other text parts. DID YOU EVEN READ THIS <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... omgwtf.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omgwtf:' />

I didn't think the album was half as bad as you guys are saying. I liked three songs (1, 3,6) , thought three were okay, and by my count it's a decent album. I've never liked every single song on any mm album, and really all of them are at least decent. haters gotta hate, I suppose.

Why does it have to be "haters gotta hate"? Why can't it be, "fans are disappointed", or "some people don't like this album"? Lumping everyone who doesn't like it into the "haters hatin'" group is no different than me lumping everyone who likes the album into "eternal sunshine of the MM fan hive-mind" group. It's really easy and convenient, but sure doesn't paint an accurate picture.

It's really easy and convenient, but sure doesn't paint an accurate picture.

[/quote]

As if this board could ever become hive-mind, much less a sunshine one.

I've been listening to the album over and over and my opinions have settled in. I feel apathetic towards most songs and skip past them. However, the songs I do like are standing out more (Onna to Otoko no Russian Song, Fantasy Ga Hajimaru, Sunnn-goi I'm cute chululu). So 3 out of the whole album? That makes it okay for me - passable but not a purchase.

[quote name='CO2 Blasted Idols' post='88271' date='Nov 29 2010, 10:24 PM']What the hell????? Okubo is capable of Fantasy ga Hajimaru and AiRisaReShigeEri Koto wa Nai no yo, yet, the single track we get from him is Seishun Collection?[/quote]

No, he also did Naichau Kamo, Nanchatte Renai, and Kimagure Princess. He's progressed pretty well, I think.

Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game (AL Ver.) ★★★★★

The added intro is pretty epic. I like seeing interpretations of songs done in different styles, so the intro is right up my alley and it sounds great while doing it. I liked the original song to begin with-- yes, they've done Russian-style songs previously, with varying degrees of quality, but that doesn't mean that there's a moratorium on them now, or that I'm going to mark a strike against the song because it's not a nü style. I like gimmicks in songs, so I like the pauses.

Bravo! ★★★★☆

I question the song title, since it adds an extra (sub?)conscious connection to Buono!, whose style MM can only belie (lie lie lie).

The fake chorus at the intro (Buravo Buravo! Kyou wa Tanoshii ne) is fairly lame and cheesy, but the verse more than makes up for it and saves the song from going awry (ry ry ry).

The real chorus is a little better, but it's still not memorable and is something I'd characterize as a bit dry (dry dry dry).

The requisite instrumental breakdown is too short and not particularly spry (spry spry spry).

However, I like the parts I do like so much that they make me give this a rating higher than the sum of what I've written would imply (ply ply ply).

Fantasy ga Hajimaru ★★★★★

I do loves me some synth/trancepop. The rhythms in this are great, as are the synths: both the blippy kind and the screechy/swooshy kind. Vocoded Sayu should've been done since 2003. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' /> Great semi-title track, but should've been track 1.

Onna Gokoro to Nanto Yara ★★★★★

Not digging the music box intro, but the rock-reggae combo is great. The style of the lyrics in particular make this: from the semi-rapped/semi-sung verses, the staccatto repetition in the chorus, and the mix of the two in between. Risa sounds great in this. It's a great song for her to lead.

Ai no Honoo ★★☆☆☆

I've never been a fan of Reina's solo songs (Kira Kira Fuyu no Shiny G, her version of Memory Seishun no Hikari... what else has she done solo?). She's always been brought up as one of the (relatively) better voices in MM, but to me she has a voice that works well in a group balanced out by other people. I find it a little grating on its own. The "futari desho" and the sustained "deeeeeeeeee" at 2:36-2:49 are especially painful and bring it down to 2 stars. The song is nice enough; I'd like to see someone else's take on it.

I'm Lucky girl ★★★★☆

"Decent, but not great or outstanding" I thought as the verse was playing. It has a bland type of repetition (Girl: "I am saying something, now you all repeat it;" All: "I am saying something, now you all repeat it.") The little instrumental (vocal-ish/synthy) dink is annoying. But the bridge and especially the chorus are much better, balancing out the other parts and helping the song pick up steam in the second half. Someone should graft the verse from Bravo! with the bridge and chorus from this song.

Sungoi My Birthday ★★☆☆☆

LinLin usually sounds much better than this, and JunJun doesn't sound too great, either. The Chu-ru-ru-rus get sort of annoying about 2/3rds of the way through, and there's just not much here that grabs my attention. Slightly below average, at best. Pass.

Ichi Kara Juu Made Aishite Hoshii ★★★☆☆

Rare are super happy uplifting all-group songs that I like. And I find this fairly average for a group song. It's decent in parts; if it comes on on random or if I'm doing a playthrough of the whole album I won't skip it, but it's not something I'm going to come back to and look forward to listen to.

Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni ★★★☆☆

Nice sendoff to Eri, but nothing special. It's hard to find something to fault in this song, but it's also hard to find something to praise. Tilting to the good side of average, but still average.

Denwa de ne ★★★☆☆

Takahashi has a pleasant voice. She doesn't have the chops to go solo, but hearing solo songs from her once in a while is nice, and this one is better than her previous efforts (Yuki / Ai x Anata > Suki, Yume Kara Samete, Furusato, probably something else I'm forgetting). She sings this well, but the weakness here is in the song itself- it's not too interesting. Average for you.

Seishun Collection ★★★★☆

This is not as awful as people make it out to be. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> It's not interestingly catchy like you'd expect a single to be, and I think this is people's main problem with it, but I still find this pleasant to listen to. It sounds better as part of an album instead of a single A-side. I enjoy it, I'm slapping a 4 on it.

Album rating without looking at the average: 3.5

Average rating of the individual songs: 3.64

Some good, some bad, not a total loss. Standard fare for H!P by now.

Finally got a listen of my album. Here's my horrible review. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game (AL Ver.)

It's an okay song, the intro makes it better but I don't think it should be the first song on the album. But I guess it fits the fantasy theme they are going for.

Bravo!

When this first song started it sounded like, this sounds like a S/mileage song, why you give to Morning Musume? It's not bad. Though I don't like that they are reusing track names around Hello!Project. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Fantasy ga Hajimaru

Robo-sayu is the best! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> At first the song was okay but it really starts to pick up half way through and so far this is my favorite song. And I hate Sayu singing so this surprised me. More robo-sayu!

Onna Gokoro to Nanto Yara

I don't like Risa's voice at all so at first I don't like it but when the other girls join in it's not so bad. The beat is good, not my favorite song though. I like the namida parts, this might bore me if this was performed in concert. It MIGHT be fun if they did some air guitar at the guitar solo. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ai no Honoo

Reina... I like her but I really can't stand her solos. She whines when she sings (that's what I call it when she hits the high notes). She has her moments but she's never really been given a good song. I hate slow songs. Pass!

I'm Lucky girl

It started out SO SO promising! Like OMG!!!! this should have been the first track and then the singing comes in and I want to cry because it's falling short of awesome. I'm sure it'll be a killer concert song if they ever perform it. Can someone else perform this? I want to hear what C-ute, S/mileage or Buono could do with this. This needed some robo-sayu.

Sungoi My Birthday

I guess everyone needs a Birthday song? This is bleh... 8th gen deserved better, at least LinLin deserved better. I love you Aika but I don't like your singing.

Ichi Kara Juu Made Aishite Hoshii

I miss the days when Dekkai Uchuu Ni Ai Ga Aru was the group song I hated most. Now I find I miss songs like that. This is not a song I'd actively search for on my iPod.

Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni

I do love Eri's singing, more so then Reina and this is a much better song then the Reina song. I wonder if she'll use this as her graduation song or pick something else. It sounds like a nice enough send off song, even though I have no idea what she's saying. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Instrumentally it does. (I'm praying to all the deities that the 6th gen perform Do It! Now on Graduation day. It NEEDS to be done!)

Denwa de ne

Takahashi's gonna become a theater girl and we'll never hear from her solo wise again. Maybe once in awhile she'll pull something out but I doubt she'll make a career out of it. This song proves to me how much I wouldn't want to hear a Takahashi solo album. Nice voice but she makes me want to go throw my CD out the window.

Seishun Collection

All I can think of are the outfits and trampoline. I don't care for this song so I'm glad they jammed it at the end of the album.

Sadude, the Okubo comment was only about what he did this year. It was more like, "He arranged a few MM songs this year and the most promoted was the least interesting of his efforts" (because it was just a reiteration of Genki Pika Pika.)

The phrase "haters gonna hate" just shouldn't be taken seriously at all, you failed nothing. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Actually, you still owe a different epic...

^ I actually like this album a lot as well. It doesn't have any omgawesome!!! songs on it the way Platinum 9 Disco did, but it's much better than 10 My Me. It took me a couple of listens to decide I liked some of these songs though, so I can understand a lot of the initial reactions.

Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game (AL Ver.)

I still love this song, and the small changes they made to it make it even better.

Bravo!

Yeah, Buono had a song with the same word, but so do 500 other Japanese groups. I liked it right away, really cute and bouncy and fun. I could see this being a good concert number.

Fantasy ga Hajimaru

Hahaha, robo-Sayu. They've made it work much better here though. In Ookii Hitomi it was just ridiculously obvious they thought she sucked since she was the only one auto-tuned, and auto-tuned throughout the ENITRE SONG. This time they blend the effects among the other girls much better. And Takahashi's oooo's are gorgeous.

Onna Gokoro to Nanto Yara

I love Risa, but this really drags. If it had picked up somewhere around the chorus it would be better, but it just lulls around on the same exact beat for the entire song. Pass.

Ai no Honoo

I'm not a Reina fan by any means, but I usually end up liking her solo songs. Not this time. Zzzzzzz.

I'm Lucky girl

This took a couple listens to grow on me, but I think it's a fun song to bounce around to.

Sungoi My Birthday

Not the best singing, and the birthday thing is overdone, but this grew on me too. It's pretty cute.

Ichi Kara Juu Made Aishite Hoshii

This one took a few listens as well. Something about these big "all together now!" type songs always gets me though, I end up really liking them.

Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni

Looove Eri's voice, and this song is perfect for her. I'm going to miss her in the group a lot <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Denwa de ne

SNOREFEST. Takahashi got gyped here, it doesn't highlight any of her talent as a singer at all.

Seishun Collection

Never was a big fan of this song, so I'm also glad it's at the end.

I wish they'd saved the Takahashi and Reina solos for the next album when they have a bunch of new girls that will hardly get any lines and the album will be carried by the shell of a group that's left after the grad. Eri/Jun/Lin solos or Eri solo + Jun/Lin duet would have been a better use of those track spots. I actually would have liked to see more of those small group songs, like maybe one Eri/Jun/Lin and another Ai/Reina/Risa. Oh well, not a bad sendoff as an overall album.

I've listened to the album a few times now and it's just not working for me. For much of it, I'm not sure I'd recognize it as Morning Musume if I didn't know ahead of time that it was. Only "Seishun Collection" really sounds like them, probably because it's so derivative of other songs they've done. As such, it stands out as the only relatively distinct song on the album. I'm not faulting their performances--the songs are just too damned generic.

Remember when their albums had pleasant surprises? Rainbow 7's "How Do You Like Japan," anyone? Or "Genki+" on Sexy 8? And, not so long ago, Platinum 9's "Take Off is Now!" and "Guruguru Jump"? And those are just off the top of my head. Their albums are generally fun to listen to. This one's a chore.

Oh, and I miss Koharu's screeching. At least there was personality at work there. Where's "Rainbow Pink" when you need it?
