I almost added a clip from Invincible Youth of a baby smushing its face into her bosoms. I think my taste level is plummeting. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
Good times, good times. "I can't give you milk!" etc.
Still loving this song, even if the MV was disappointing. Some ridiculous rumor is going around that this comeback was rushed and unplanned. It's probably entirely baseless, but the MV does seem a little.... I don't know. At least this way they'd have an excuse.
I think the basis for that rumor is basically "nobody knew about it/it came out of the blue", which either means they kept it secret (which I guess is hard in the Korean industry?) or they rushed it in order to surprise people. I think there's some basis in that idea, especially when you consider the other songs on the album (as much as I like them) could basically all be recorded at any time post-Gee, so they could be tracks that didn't make it on the albums before.
But who gives a shit, it's a great mini-album, probably the best one SM has ever done as far as I'm concerned. >:3

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
SNSD became the first non-japanese girl band to have a Top 3 single in the Oricon charts since 1980:
http://www.japanprobe.com/2010/10/31/girls...gle-since-1980/
Congratulations, girls !
The Japanese Gee is still extremely weird (disgustingly high pitched) to me and I will never listen to it.
I started to like Hoot however.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Does anyone notice that Sooyoung seems to enjoy her higher profile when they're on Japanese TV (cuz she doesn't need the translator to know what's going on)? She always has this kind of mischievous "I know what they're saying and you don't" look on her face. Those route0 days are finally paying off! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Haha, totally. Wasn't she made unofficial subleader in Japan? Or was she always subleader? I forgot. But yeah she's relishing the extra attention for sure, and showing off her Japanese. Good times. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> She's really funny, definitely one of the funnier characters in SNSD, she was amazing in that MTV documentary (where they visited her house and had a barbeque!).

Am I the only one that doesn't really like the "Hoot" album?
The covers are wicked, but I think that's the only thing I really *like*. Everything else is just kinda...substandard. :c

You're not the only one, Haru. I'm not a huge SNSD fan, but this was a disappointment after Oh!/Run Devil Run. It bored me, especially My Best Friend and Wake Up. Hoot itself is all right, though.

As always (I despise all pop ballads), I hate the "ballads" on this album, however, I really started to like Hoot after hearing it ~3 times and also like the other songs.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
My favorite SNSD era, in terms of music and image, is still the ITNW/GG period. Kissing You was an abomination best forgotten, and directly led to my first exit from SNSD fandom. Of their 2009-2010 material, Hoot (the title track) sits somewhere in the lackluster middle. Mistake is kind of bland but pleasant enough to listen to, and the only reason I'd listen to the remaining 3 tracks is if I was too occupied to hit the stop button.

I think the Korean promotion cycle makes it easy to talk about Eras for any group that's been around a few years. Since there are specific times when they were active for certain songs and then weren't active for a bit after that, I think it's fair to call them eras. I completely disagree with moralar on everything else he/she said though XD

Korea is silly like that, yeah... Like, technically, you could say that Run Devil Run was an "era", all on its own. That's how it got promoted in Korea anyway!

There's no separate pay app - you have to buy the full package via in-app purchase.
I loved the fact that they made an app for Run Devil Run and I loved the song, but I felt the $8 they were asking for it was a bit much. Also, I put the video and the mp3s on my phone already- why do they need to package it into an app that's going to be more limited? I don't quite understand it.
I'll at least check out this free Hoot one and see if my thoughts on this change.

After watching the SNSD performance for the Daijun special, my only question is why do management make Hyoyeon look ugly all the time? She's not the prettiest girl in the group, that's for sure, but she could look SO much better if they styled her nicely. What the hell with those bangs on her for example.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Hm. I have a question.
I've listened through most of the Into the New World live album and...is it just me, or are all of the songs lip-synced? I notice very little difference between the album and live versions of "Gee" and "Oh." I mean, I know they're all talented girls and such, but it's just a tad disheartening to talented girls lip-sync.
Also they have the most amazing English known to man.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
They lipsynced a lot of the songs during the concert itself, but the live album was REALLY cleaned up in post production. It was to the point where it sounds like a studio version. This happens with most of SM's "live" albums. .___. Disappointing really. But come on, who wants to listen to these girls at their worst. I know I wouldn't. LOL
Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
I think I read somewhere a while ago (so do not quote me) that they also often sing live and are then dubbed and polished over for concert releases (DVD's, etc.).

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
The DVD release definitely needs some polishing with the vocals. The fancams of the Shanghai concert is a good example of them singing live. Those girls were not trained to sing and dance for 2+ hours. :/
Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
Once again, BBS posts are relevant to things I have just noticed.
Does anyone know the frequency of longer, single-group concerts in Korea? It seems like these appearances are relatively rare, certainly compared to H!P. I've only seen mention of major Korean groups doing concerts in foreign countries or for special events, and I've found no DVD releases outside of the Japanese Hoot showcase bonus DVD.
It's no wonder they're messes after long concerts if they train primarily for short bursts like music show appearances and group concert segments.

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread
It's usually just like one concert a year. No one in Korea really has a "tour" even if they'd like to call it that unless they're a solo act. The idol groups usually have like a 2-day thing in a big arena and then the "encore" concert at a later date.

Wow, a group is about ~3 years old and you're already talking about "eras" ? hah
For some reason, Korea's idol industry gets really into image concepts, so the group will intensely promote a song for like, a one month period, then move on - but then the next song they promote could involve some wildly different new concept. (For example, Super Junior went from this in July of 2007 to this in September. Yeeeaah.) In that sense, the difference between songs would seem to make them separate "eras".
I'm not sure how to translate it into Japanese terms, since Japanese groups don't really do image concepts quite the same; AKB48 is almost always "cute" and Koda Kumi is almost always "provocative" and Arashi is almost always... whatever they are, "gay"? It's also hard to think about in H!P terms, since we tend to define eras by the members. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
There's also the fact that SNSD was unpopular/embroiled in a lot of petty fanclub shit up until Gee, so if you wanted you could define eras as B.G. and A.G., because there was definitely a big style change following Gee.
tl;dr there are totally eras because all of SNSD's songs are really differently themed/they've been through a lot despite not being that old of a group? erp I done rambled again
This is BEYOND awesome and ought to go viral with the k-poop community. You could become a rockstar, Surasshu!
