For a dude named "Phil" he certainly seems to make non-native speaker mistakes. Perhaps he's French.

Yep that blog is official... and makes me want to email Hello!Project and tell them that I could do a better job blogwise and I think I have a better grasp of the English language. Still it is interesting that something like that is opening.

Foreigners like foreign shit right? Quick make a blog post about some Korean that nobody cares about!

Seriously I worry about Up Front and the thought process they go through to reach such choices...

I'll have you know, I was really worried they were keeping her locked in her cage. It's nice they finally let her out to do something besides fester like they did with poor ice cream musume.

It's nice for her to finally be acknowledged and not talked about in the corner in whispered tones.

On the bright side, at least Dayeon looks somewhat cute in that pic. Moreso than any others I've ever seen her in anyway. I have a feeling she's going to grow up and look somewhat odd looking.

I'm so embarrassed for them. WTF is this? And the graphics? And the garbled English?

Not to mention the goddamn boring ass blog entries. What IS this?

I bet they just hired anyone who could claim to be bilingual in French and English. However, the English side has way more comments than the French side and arguably, the English-speaking fan world is much bigger than the French (as English is the dominant international language). It is a mistake to have the blog owner be primarily a French speaker I think. Sorry but, French is barely an international language anymore.

In fact, the SPANISH speaking fan world is also probably bigger than the French. There is a huge Japanese-Brazilian population so I'm shocked that they didn't think to have someone write in either Spanish or Portuguese

edit: just perused the few comments and yup, lots of annoyed Spanish speakers! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I bet they did this because a French-primary/English-secondary blog seems more "cool," exotic, and impressive than say an official Chinese-language blog.

I also love how quickly racism shows its face on those innocuous blog posts.

Everything about this annoys me.

Largest number of Japanese is in Brazil, and vice versa; plus a lot of Brazilian H!P fans on H!O...but Eri, babe, they don't speak Spanish in Brazil. Portuguese.

Maybe France is their next target audience? I'd have thought they would go into Thailand or Malaysia more, what with Berryz going to the former last year.

Plus the fact you got French-Canadians on the go too. I figured that seems a bit more likely for their reasoning on a french blog; They've already made a few appearances in the U.S, with Berryz coming there this year, why not try the more northern part of North America.

Yes I realized <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' /> But, isn't Portuguese similar to Spanish? Or is it "similar" in the way French and Italian are similar (same roots and structure but not comprehensible without classes)?

My dear, I hardly think anyone is targeting French-Canadians as the go-to group for anything <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I guess the French is cause H!P went to France's Japan Expo but it is still a stupid idea imo.

Whatever, my point is, they need to fire this guy and hire a better English speaker. Oh and, USA! USA! USA! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... wheely.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

HEY.

I guess I'm the only French-canadian out here

<.<

>.>

H!P is barely know here. Even by Otakus. Anyway.

(I had a Niigaki Risa shirt at a convention and no one cared about me. See? Maybe because it was a Niigaki shirt.)

I think it's just that there might be a lot of French people in Japan? Or just because the guy is freaking french and think he can handle english well? Anyway. XD

It's not looking really official anyway.

Yes and no. In some ways it's similar, someone who speaks Portuguese could get the general gist of a Spanish conversation, and vice versa; but there's no way you could learn Spanish and then pick up everything in Portuguese. Some words are just totally different. (Compare "Silent Night" in both languages. Your brain will be fried.)

...Portuguese is my third language okay. /shot

Jang Dayun will probably get a tour around Japan (last I heard she was with Linlin and Junjun), be told YOU CAN NEVER BECOME FAMOUS HERE and then be shoved back into her close.

No matter how much the blog makes us cringe, I still think it's great that they are finally making an effort to keep the non-Japanese speaking fans up to date somehow. Even though I'm jealous that someone kind of took my wishful idea of going up to UFA and asking for the chance to make H!P more accessible internationally, I think he did a great job to actually get to them. He's obviously a fan. So good on him.

The sad thing is that it's quite obvious it isn't some native speaker and it's even more obviously not written by a fan of the groups, the words are straight and cold and the use of English is broken and awkward.

There are a lot of people doing fantastic work in translating and supporting H!P in the non-Japanese speaking world that would actually deserve some official recognition.

This "blog" is just another horrible failure, it's doomed before it has even started.

Have you seen the latest blog? apparently Mano Erina performs with energy on stage and has a new cd out soon...

Then they should make an effort to contact/badger the offices of UFA to make their efforts worthwhile, no? I agree with you, I used to translate blogs, and it was extremely time and energy consuming. And it ended up not being worth it without payment or recognition so I let it go. But if someone, or a group, were to seriously approach the management and speak for the people who do this out of the feelings they have for the girls, then yes. I believe that if they're willing to hire this Phil guy to do something like this, then what's stopping us from trying? I know the translators do a great job, they should be noticed by UFA. So why doesn't anyone try to get themselves that recognition instead of complaining?

I kind of want to believe that "Phil" is actually "Takuhiro" and this is like one of those outsourced customer service things. I can't decide which better represents a terrible decision by a company. I wonder if the French is native-level.

Hey! Really? You should help us on our mm-bbs blog!project then. It's worth it when you do it in a group <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I agree with your earlier point that, I'm happy they at least recognize foreign fans.

Maybe we should hold off a bit. The blog has just started and maybe the higher ups are asking "Phil" to do some introductory posts first to gauge the reaction. If anything, we should be whining directly to Phil to step up the game.

I sense my dislike for this is also due to the irrational hate I have for the name "Phil."
