Following to the bathroom...

When I saw a famous person on holiday I did the same, just left them in peace but you know... even though they are eating they are "at work" so tbh I think you should go and make them work, they would like the attention!

Just don't be weird! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nceman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' /><img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... stling.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

Hahaha, thanks for the link. I just saw this really tall Jack Skellington, they freaked out a bit because they had to raise the camera just to get his face on screen! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

It's nice to watch something on Nico Nico that I can fully understand.

Are registrations closed on Nico? I've been a member for several years, so I can't tell.

Oh, the english version of the live broadcast is here, that might make it easier. Seems like you can even sign up via facebook.

I wonder of they are going to show the Berryz concert on the livestream. It's scheduled from 7 to 8 pm, so I guess that makes it 10 pm for me.

EDIT: Sorry about the large photo size. I thought they'd be reduced more when they were posted. Let me know if I need to shrink them and re-upload.

Hey folks, I finally have time to upload some of the spoils from their visit:

I was fortunate enough to be at the front of the general (non-priority) autograph line on Sunday. I can't stress this enough; they're *far* prettier in person than they are in video & pictures. Sorry about the quality of the pics. My scanner needs a new USB cable so I just took photos instead. Enjoy:

There was a funny moment when Miyabi was trying to dry off her autograph (she used a gold paint pen instead of a sharpie) and we just sort of laughed with each other as she frantically waved her photo. :)

Someone at the Anime News Network either is a closet H!P fan or did their research because Kudos for them for finally writing something that I don't have to scream at for being slightly wrong.

I think they talked just about everything there is to know about Berryz.

Actually a really good write up, could do with a bit more info on the concert, activities, Q&A, photos etc... but still good.

And I think we got a secret mention too..... "Japanese literate fans translating their blogs into English..."

This part of the ANN interview was a little disturbing:

"But did they ever imagine lasting a full seven years (and more) when they first debuted? Chinami Tokunaga, she of the beaming megawatt smile, admits she had her doubts: "When we started out, we were told that the lineup might not be permanent. So every time our managers called a meeting, everyone was really nervous—are they going to announce someone coming out? Someone coming in?"

Even when the remaining Kids were herded into another group, °C-ute, about a year later, there was no sigh of relief. "Even then, we still didn't know if there might be auditions for other members," says Natsuyaki. "There was also the trainee group, Hello! Project Eggs, and we thought that they might jump in. So we were never sure.""

I guess this is part of management's perennial strategy: keep them guessing, keep them insecure about whether they're going to stay or not. That's a helluva thing to do to girls that young. One wrong move and out you go, so you stay in line all the time. I wonder what those who left H!P early, like Megumi Murakami, would say about it. Was her departure a reaction to this strategy? I wish I knew.

That was just Berryz Koubou's concept in th beginning, to change members but they scrapped it and made C-ute instead.

The girls who left early did so because they wanted to live normal lives, it really is as simple as that tbh.

Got back home yesterday~!

Every Berryz interaction I had was just amazing. I don't even know where to start. Everyone I talked to at the convention too will agree that the weekend was just special. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I'll try to summarize the weekend up as simplified as possible~~ I am first drafting this though as a heads up because I gotta run to get my nephew after this~!

The Q&A

-------------------

Very cute, There's videos up of it on youtube. Just get it over with and watch it. There's cute clips of Saki doing a gimpy hiphop dance followed by some beat-boxing. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I also had one interaction with them when their handler asked the audience how we heard about them. I was the nerd in the audience that said I bought a Japanese magazine that featured Morning Musume once upon a time and there was an article about the Berryz debute. They all made face like "Ehhh??" like they were embarrassed some fans have been around since they were baby Berryz haha. It was really cute. ♥

The concert

-------------------

Amazing.... JUST AMAZING. Look at this motherf♥cking setlist and tell me otherwise. I dare you.

(copying from hello online because Patachu already did the work for me)

1. Ai wa Katsu

2. Special Generation

3. Heroine ni Narou ka

4. Shining Power

MC (places we visited)

5. Piriri to Yukou

6. Happiness ~Koufuku Kangei~

7. Tsukiatteru no Kataomoi

MC (JP and engrish lessons)

8. Berry Fields

9. [costume change] CLAP!

10. Maji Bomber

11. Icchoume Rock!

12. Otakebi Boy WAO!

MC

13. Rival

EN. All For One and One For All

AMAZING. I was expecting them to do more music from Berryz 7, or their current tour however I nearly pissed my pants when I heard ♪ SU....PE... ♪ and then Special Generation started playing. Followed by everything else that played~ I don't think I have heard them sing a lot of those songs in a good long while. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I was really hoping it would be a bunch of their older stuff and I got my wish~ ! There was a lack of Monkey Dance and Dschinghis Khan however all was forgiven when we were granted an Encore.... and it was All For One. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Oh! And Chinami rocked the fish dress. hahaha. I seriously can not wait until they release this on DVD. I hope I am not shown in the audience too much but the crowd camera was on me alot. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... smooch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='=3=' /> I know I will be looking unfortunate because it was hot and yucky in the standing area.

The autograph session

-------------------

ALSO Awesome~ ♥ I got to give them their gifts and chat briefly with each of them!

Image

Image

I made them each a custom card and wrote a poorly written Japanese message inside. (My best friend helped me write actual proper sentences but my characters look like they were written by a toddler because it's been about 3 years since I took Japanese. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )

I also wanted to give them something American so I got them Easter candy since they were there on Easter weekend. Easter is all about the cute candy and bunnies anyways. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

They were all super sweet, really friendly and tried to speak English to me. It was so cute. ♥ They were impressed I drew their cards and thanked me for the gift~~ (EDIT Ahhh all 7 Berryz also called me cute! I forgot to mention that~~! )I bought a Metallic photo set while I was there and had them sign that. Chinami was a sweet heart and snuck a 2nd autograph for me. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (I was holding her fan at the time~) After seeing her all weekend, she became my favorite because she was so full of personality and was really friendly. She's always been one of my favorites, but now she has the number 1 Berryz spot in my heart. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Sorry Captain and Momo. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

At my last autograph Saki stopped me from walking away and told me that her and the girls saw me up front in the first row at the concert. She told me it was cool (the other girls chimed in and agreed and were giggly... ahhh it was so cute.) and she said they were happy because I knew their music and dances. I was embarrassed but really gay-gay happy too. I can't remember what I said, but I think I said thank you and made hearts with my hands. I wish I could have had a few more seconds with each girl but I was really nervous and their handler was standing over me, making me more so.

The fans

-------------------

I also met a lot of really awesome people there~ One of our own translators on Blog!Project (ROKUN, I believe? ♥), the awesome dude behind Hello Fansubs, Daigong of JPHip, the awesome couple behind Hello!Ranking/Hello Party among a bunch of other really awesome people. I had a lot of fun and it was nice to meet other H!P fans who weren't mentally deficient in one way or another. I wish these people weren't all spread out across the US though. I would love to nerd it up with them again.

The Wota

-------------------

Also a note about the wota. I was surprised to find they were actually incredibly sweet and harmless. I was surprised by their generosity as well as their welcoming and making American fans feel apart of it. I was kinda afraid of them the first few nights when they were camping the sites and coming up with strategies to make sure they were first for everything. (Those dudes are professionals, haha) But I found I was quick to judge and they actually were really sweet and it blows my mind that they spent all those money coming from Japan just to see these girls perform. That's pretty hardcore.

One guy donated a stack of Berryz singles (Geeze it must have been a pile of 30-40) to Hello Party to give away as consolation prizes. (I lost two games but I scored the Ryuusei Boy Single and Heroine ni Narou Ka~ ♪) Others were giving away free glow sticks before the concert of your favorite girl's colors. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Another was giving away free photo sets (of his doubles or left overs I am assuming) to anyone in line waiting for an autograph. And the one that melted my heart the most was one named Kosuke. He was a guy in the very very front part of the standing section of the concert. I was one row and one diagonal to him and he spotted me half way through the concert and grabbed my shoulders and shoved me in the very very first row. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (Mind you, I am four foot 9 hahaha) When thanked him after for helping me see it better he was like "no! no! no! Not me." then he pointed to the stage and said "Chinami" and pointed at the stage than me, like he was telling me Chinami gestured to him to let the shaw-tee to the front row.

It was totally awesome and I don't know if he was trying to make me gay for her, or if he really did it himself but didn't want the credit, but damn being in the very very first row was amazing. And if Chinami granted that, holy shit. hot damn. sflkj asdh gay. gay. gay.

From that point of the concert and on the girls all made eye contact and always had a surprised happy smile when they spotted me because there was a little white gal in between all the wota that knew all their lyrics and parts of their dances. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Most notable Maasa and Yurina would look at me a lot and have the shocked but happy giggling look.

As they finished up their final song and were exiting the stage I got Chinami's attention again~~ You might be able to see it in the concert DVD, but I got her to laugh and she couldn't take her eyes off of me as she left. She just kept waving at me. It was amazing. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Sooooo yeah. Amazing weekend was amazing. PQ and AiAsami I'll get your items boxed up and measured by Monday. :D I still need to unpack and find boxes.

While hanging out at Sakura Matsuri yesterday in Brooklyn Botanic Garden...

Image

and enjoying the sun worshippers...

Image

...I got to hear the full account of Seattle from my friend Josh, who went out there with Usako. So everything I'm relating here is just a paraphrase of what he told me. If I could persuade him to join MM-BBS and tell it in his own words, I would. But, lacking those powers of persuasion, you'll just have to make do with my secondhand version.

Josh was the one who asked the first question at the Q&A, a request that the Captain do some beatbox sounds for the crowd, prompting her and Chinami to oblige. I heard a full blow-by-blow account of the whole stalking-the-girls-at-the-restaurant incident and how the older members of the 14-person fan contingent had to clamp down on the younger ones to keep them from bum-rushing the girls. It was quite funny.

As Josh related it to me, the fan favorites of the event were Saki, Miyabi and, the clear winner, "sweet and bubbly" Chinami. I.e. they showed the most enthusiasm towards meeting their fans. Momoko was restrained and subdued because she apparently was sick with a cold, but once on stage, she was on fire. He says she had a whole "I'm the star" vibe, but was careful to add that she displayed the biggest difference between onstage and offstage personalities. (An aside: I can believe that and it seems appropriate. She IS the real star in that group.) Maasa seemed annoyed by the whole thing, like she didn't want to be there. Risako was shy. "Yurina was Yurina." (I'm assuming he meant utterly dazzling.) He says the concert was fantastic.

Josh says that he saw the girls up close a total of ten times over the four days. Definitely greater access than we had with MM at AX two years ago. He says their handlers seemed to have learned from their mistakes. And he even had kind words to say about the interpreter.

He met lots of other interesting fans, including a 50-year-old Scotsman and an entire (American) Wota family.

In short, I feel awful for not going. I've had health issues for the first four months of this year and I can't help but feel that they would all have vanished had I planned the trip and gone and been in the magical healing presence of the girls. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

^Maybe Maasa felt frustrated by the language barrier? I've heard a lot of idols (of course this doesn't only apply to idols, it can apply to anyone) says that it's frustrating not to be able to talk to the fans directly, and that they wish they knew english or whatever the language is.
