I don't picture Tsunku totally revamping MM that in the next 2-3 years, but it is certainly possible. He might be deadset on flushing out all generations except for the 9th and just starting over from there, but I think he recognizes that many of the longtime wota fanbase are there for Reina and Sayu, so they're probably safe for now. Sayumi might just outlive us all in her MM tenure.

I don't mind if Sayu graduates, she's my favorite in the group now along with Ai, but if she does graduate, she'll undoubtedly go the Yaguchi route and still be active on TV.

Well although I didn't expect a completely positive reaction with all the naysayers here I didn't think it would be so negative either. 9th gen has brought so much new and positive energy into Musume that although there were mutterings of "Isn't it too soon?" in the audience there was also a lot of happiness that things are returning to the way they were before the lull. As a fan since 2002 it is something that I am happy with.



Do I expect this will make Musume number 1 on the charts again, no. But that isn't what I want for them. They are essentially idols and whether they are household names or not doesn't matter. AKB may be huge (blitzkrieg) but if you ask most people about any names they can maybe name three or four girls who have been pushed into everything, otherwise it's just "There are too many of them I can't say."



I am hoping that now that Tsunku sees great young energy he will add at least one 15 year old, and then maybe one 10 year old (that ten year old being Karin or Cuca if she has her birthday soon).



Musume is not dead for me, the power they showed at the Maji release event was amazing and I look forward to seeing how they all act in Hawaii <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nceman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' />

MM definitely needs Sayu more than it needs her, but she has stated several times that she WILL lead the group before she leaves. I imagine she'll stay on at least as long as Risa leads, just so she can be the undisputed longest running MM member.



If they add Karin to MM, I'm all for it. I think the 10th should exclusively be Eggs (or that Cuca midget) because they need trained talent more than raw potential when 60%+ of the group will be rookies.

I'd be totally cool with them flushing all vets out -- even Sayummy -- if it meant adding a few legit talents to the group and giving them honestly great material to sing, but that hasn't happened for a long fucking time now. I really hope this means that Aika head is next for the chopping block.

Personally I doubt Tsunku would add any 10 year old that wasn't Riho ready to kick some major Idol ass from the womb. Because there's just too much you need to work with in order to get them ready. You'd end up with Mogi 2.0. (I wouldn't mind seeing Mogi again, but only if she fixed her face.)

Agreed. If they choose good members, this will help round out the group a little better and hopefully help fill the void when Ai is gone. I don't have any high hopes that they'll find someone as vocally talented, but if they could at least create something else for us to focus on (a fun, happy group with decent singers and lots of personality), that would be nice.

With MM auditions, I'm not so worried about if talented girls are found, I mostly worry about the talented girls getting eliminated in favor of the least capable singer gimmick. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

It's taken her ten years to finally get interesting. She's got a couple more left in her.



My big problem is that MM is about that mix of new and old, but after this audition it'll mainly be new. Like I said, Reina will be gone by the end of the year. I see Risa hanging on for another year, then Sayu takes over. Word was it would take Eri 2 or 3 years to get all of her medical condition taken care of, so if she returns to showbiz, Sayu will leave the group and they will become a brilliant comedy duo. If it makes it to the point where Aika is the leader, MM won't even be the flagship group anymore, because Berryz and C-ute will have both the age and experience seniority.

Ai-chan reminds me of Nakazawa with her hair like that. I always like watching the auditions and was happy with the 9th gen results so I'll be looking forward to the 10th gen. There might not even be any graduations announced this year. If they add 2 and Ai-chan graduates you are left with 10 members which is a nice number. I'm hoping for 15 to 17 years old, but if Karin joins I'd be fine with that (at least we know she can sing).

Edit: I do hope he only takes 2 girls. He's never taken just two girls, ever (And the panda's don't count because they were thrown in with Aika). So now would be an awesome time to do something he's never done before.

There's nothing they can really do about the seniority over Berryz and C-ute thing, unless UFA starts ruining those two groups by suddenly switching out the members or they suddenly freeze MM graduations and keep Risa around until the end of MM time.



The group Morning Musume itself has been around the longest though, so I wouldn't be surprised if UFA continued to treat them like the 'flagship' based on name alone. But really as long as all three groups remain good, I don't care who's name gets billed first.



Edit: Brief summary of what's going on in the clip -



Riho - She's too surprised to even say anything.

Mizuki - She's pretty shocked too, but says she'll do her best not to lose to the new gen.

Kanon - "What's a 10ki?" They reassure her, that's the 10th generation! 10 comes after 9! They ask her how she feels about being senior to someone, and Risa asks what she'd do if a new member asked her to teach them her praying mantis impersonation. She gets all flustered, mutters some nonsense and goes UUGH xD

Erina - She's worried about how she's supposed to teach new members things when there's still so much she doesn't know. The others tease her, maybe she'll teach stuff wrong. But they say that's all part of the learning experience.

Then why did the single bomb so badly despite the aditional publicity generated by the arrival of the 9th Gen?

One thing I have just realised is that Mikan had 3 versions, regular and 2 limited, whilst Maji had 5, regular and 4 limited, so arguably Maji had less people buying it even if it scraped higher sales.

Yes it does, if you want MM to continue they need to be popular, if single and album sales continue to decrease then logically concert attendances will decrease and at some point UFA will swing the axe.

Because it's really only the wotas who care about Morning Musume. Group's been around for nearly 15 years, they're (I hate to use this term, but oh well) "old hat." No one really cares anymore. AKB48 is what it's all about now. I doubt there's anything that can boost Morning Musume's popularity at this point.



Sorry to be all horribly pessimistic about it, but that just seems to be the way things are.

I'd rather get another Sayumi than another Riho or Mizuki. They can dance and sing, respectively, but they're pretty cookie cutter and not very fun to watch. Sayumi's singing is awful but at least she's fun. Forget talent, might as well just get some girls who will keep the wota interested.

I seriously love how everytime something is announced about Morning Musume the board becomes Nostradamus and predicts the downfall. It's been years and they're still trucking along. Single/Album/DVD sales don't matter, I bet they still make buttloads off their concerts since they're constantly touring year-round. Morning Musume will stop whenever they're not profitable, I think we've had this discussion ten thousand times already.

That's my point exactly (which I first mooted about 5/6 months ago and nobody seems to have answered), why fuck about with things if it's only making MM, at best, the same but probably worse. Anybody want to bet against the 11th album not making the top 20 and/or selling over 10K.



Why didn't Tsunka/UFA move the pre-9th Gen MM into Dream MM who primarily would be a concert group and members could come in and out as other work/pregnancy etc. dictates and then start again with a totally new group with no previous H!P allegiance, spend some serious money on promotion and take on AKB48 at their own game.



I would rather see MM retire gracefully whilst they still have some respect then deteriorate into a pale, unpopular shadow of what they once were flogging around Japan to bring in a few more bucks to the UFA coffers.

I honestly think MM won't be interesting again until they're either in danger of being scrapped or back on top, because the girls need to be competitive to really DO anything worth watching. The only reason we got crazy personalities like Yaguchi in the first place is because there were so many more talented front girls already and the underdogs wanted to make sure they got a piece of that cake. The problem now is that everyone pre-9th gen is just so terribly comfortable. The threat of the graduation chopping block hasn't really hovered over their heads for a while either, so even less reason to make yourself important in the group.



Now having said all that, I'm not quite sure if either of those extremes will actually make the girls compete for TV/fan attention again, but I still think more competition and all-around caring about the spotlight would lend itself to more interesting girls.
