Really not liking what they did with Watashi ga Obasan..sounds way too overproduced and they fucked around with the melody and progressions which is the #1 no-no for me when it comes to covers most of the time. The main driving rhythm of the song is terribly downplayed and just sounds underwhelming in the chorus, and that's also when her vocals become a little too digitized and irritating.
I always thought with covers, there were no rules. You can copy it closely, change it a little or change it a lot, isn't that the fun part of cover versions?
Changing the actual songwriting composition or structure is very different from just changing the recording arrangement. Its just personal preference, anyway. I pay lots of attention to the nuances and small details in a song's composition, so when its changed around too much, it irks the hell out of me. Obviously this only applies to when I actually like the song, which I very much do like the original of Watashi ga Obasan. If the song sucks originally, some compositional changes are very welcome, but I'm not inclined to seek out covers of songs I don't like...

Here's the MV for Sotsugyou.

And we go back to the vocaloid styled instrumentals.

Another MV is out, this time for Kaze wa Aki Iro.

This time it lacks a lot of that elctrobeats in the instrumental and brings more guitar, but the guitar sounds like it's in a can.

Is she singing through her nose? It sounds like she's singing through her nose, especially in this one.

I actually like that Kaze wa Aki Iro arrangement better than all the other ones so far, but the songwriting itself is a little boring and the key seems slightly out of her range. She sounds fantastic when they keep the pitch somewhere in her range, but that song is a little too high for her, there's too much strain.

STREET FIGHTER SONG! I was looking forward to this a lot. I used to be obsessed with this song and TK, the composer, once upon a time.

I think she did a good job. The scenes with her in the black suit are so very 90's even the way she dances. So I guess she captured how the original was like pretty well.

They just upped her version of 17sai, which is one of my all-time favorites, but they really fucked up the arrangement and downplayed the main melody a LOT and just have tons of pulsating bass in the arrangement. The video is really good (a huge throwback to the original Moritaka video) and she sounds great, I just wish they wouldn't have crapped all over the song :( I can't up the link cause I'm at work, but its on the same YouTube account as all the other videos for the album.

Here's the video for 17sai.

I like the outfit though.It matches, how cute. (Even the bow in the hair!) <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... R#>/8o.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8o' />

I've heard this before since it was a b-side to one of her singles, and I liked it right away. I wasn't familiar with the original, so I looked it up when the single was announced. I think it's pretty faithful, just updated to sound more modern. But I think I'm a lot less of a critical listener.

I'm finally getting around to watching all of these videos, which have refused to play on my computer for whatever stupid reason. The 17sai video is cute, as Aeug said a definite throwback to the original. I'm not familiar with the original videos of any of the others she has on her channel, but I assume they're all throwbacks? She mentioned that the "cosplay" was embarrassing xD

Itoshisa to Setsunasa to - I looove the original but for some reason I ditzed out and didn't connect the title until the song came on. I don't like what they've done with the super noisy electronic sound, it's a little overbearing. But I love her voice here *_*

Sotsugyou - Aaauugh. This is basically the remix style I was afraid of. Her voice sounds gorgeous when they leave her alone, but the skippy autotune parts they throw in between verses are really irritating. The super electronic instrumental doesn't seem to fit the song at all. I'm only vaguely familiar with the original through hearing it on every best of count down ever, but it sounds like they took a random unrelated piece of music and slapped these vocals on top of it. It makes the verses sound like she's stumbling a bit and off beat, because they don't match up to the instrumental at all. Sadface.

Kaze wa Akiiro - Much better. The instrumental sounds nice and we actually get to hear her beautiful voice. Woo! The only downside for me is I don't find this song super catchy and memorable, but it's pleasant to listen to.

Watashi wa Oba-san ni Natte mo - I just got my copy of Darling to Madonna the other day and heard this for the first time. It's took me a bit to warm up to, but it's really cute and fun. They should have put this video up when the single came out, she doesn't get nearly enough single promo. She's too adorable in this PV.

Maji de Koi wo Suru 5byou Mae - I feel like I'm in a Mario game... in a good way! This is super adorable.

I'm really looking forward to Secret Base. Compared to everything uploaded so far it's got a totally different mood, so I wonder if they'll even do one of these little cutesy videos for it.

I'll definitely agree the Moritaka arrangement wasn't all that great (I'll be the first person to tell you I hate overly 80s arrangements at large,) but it was still more fitting to the songwriting and less annoying than this one by Kikka.

Loving Samishii Nettaigyo. As a die hard W fan I loved this song when they did it and I love her take on it as well.

Then again, I love songs about fish. XD

Oh and on the front page where the song listing is and who it was sung by orginaly you can list Saito Yuki next to Sotsugyou since it's her version of it. The song is from 1985.

I'm late as hell to the party, but holy SHIT I love this version of Samishii Nettaigyo. I just got around to listening to the album a few days ago. A lot of Wink's songs had the hard rock edge to them, even if the final arrangement ended up being largely 80s synths and crap (even though they did have a few with rock arrangements,) the songwriting was very rock-ish, and I'm finally glad to see the song getting a much more fitting arrangement. This is as good as this song will ever get, hands down.

The rest of the album really doesn't do nearly as much for me, though some of the other ones are pretty listenable (Kaze wa Akiiro, Watashi ga Obasan, to a lesser extent 17sai)
