It's even on Wikipedia. It suddenly made much more sense when the article mentioned My Neighbour Totoro.

Are the "new" girls in S/mileage (Akari, Meimi, Kana, Rina) considered S/mileage 2nd Gen? If not, how are they referred to in order to distinguish them from the original four (Ayaka, Kanon, Yuuka, Saki O.)?

Also, how do you find out when the girls joined H!P? The Generasia pages don't provide this info. I'm particularly curious about Kanon Fukuda.

Thanks.

Yes, they are the 2nd generation. They joined October 16th 2011; it can be found on their H!P Wiki under the group's history.

Their blog only calls them S/mileage new members (スマイレージ新メンバー), I don't know if I've ever heard them being called 2nd generation.

This may have been asked befor, but why doesn't Wakkyanai (Z) have an official PV? The other indie singles do.

Because, reasons.

There was only a live version released. It was on the first C-ute PV collection. Here

The Hello! Pro Kenshuusei page on Generasia has the info you need about that since all four of the original members were Eggs (and were also a part of the first 31 members that begun the Egg program).

They are not up to date with any of the 2011 and on trainees, but the Hello!Project database is pretty good for anyone else. Kanon is just listed as June 2004.

Is fan mail sent somewhere to be sorted before being sent to the idol's home? I can't imagine they release the girl's real home adress. Also could one send fan mail from outside of Japan?

I thought about this after reading Yajima's blog post

They get sent to the appropriate Up Front office and then the staff check them and forward them either by hand or in this case by mail to the girl they were addressed to.

Other than 3, 2, 1 Breakin' Out and Takahashi and Niigaki's graduation songs, do any Morning Musume b-sides have PVs? I've been watching all of their videos and want to make sure I'm not missing any.

Koi wa Hassou Do the Hustle! has a PV since it was originally meant to be the A-side. Also the album tracks Ganbacchae, Hey! Mirai, and Dance Suru no Da have PVs. The Best Shot fanclub series is also full of PVs if you haven't found those yet.

Ok, I know that "Morning Musume OG" means the graduated members, but what does "OG" actually stand for?

Ah, thank you.

I was guessing something like Old Girls, so I wasn't far off.

(That girls part got me thinking about what would happen if a boy were to pass an audition and join H!P, even as a soloist.)

I know in the UK, Old Girls refers to upperclassmen that have graduated. In Japan, I've seen OG used as Original Generation. And here in the US, dat shit be Original Gangsta!

What is this Hello! Project "Pokemo' iOS app? I installed it awhile ago just to kind of support H!P doing stuff like this. I think it has been used to chat directly to the girls, but I don't know much about it.

Pokemo stands for Pocket Morning. It's been around forever as a subscription service through mobile phones, and recently they came out with the app version. If you just install the free app you get basically nothing. If you become a monthly subscriber you get access to:

- Random special sections (previously there was a Mano Erina graduation special)

- The "image collection" section where you can write in what image you have of a certain member. They tally up the votes. In the past they've substituted this section with a drawing contest between 3 girls at a time.

- "Imaginary Phone Calls" section. You click on a member's name and you get a fake "phone call" from them where they pretend to be having a conversation with you (there are pauses where you'd respond).

- Tour Diary section. This is where they have blogs for each tour. Now that almost everyone has a blog it's kind of pointless because their entries are really similar to the ones in their public blogs, but there are sometimes different photos. This is where I found Sakura's blog entries to translate since she has no official blog (and before that 9th and 10th gen).

- Wallpapers. Just images you can use as cell phone backgrounds.

- Live Chat - once every 100 years some members appear on Ameba pigg chat with fans. This doesn't happen too often.

- Hello Shots /Shop Photo - Each weekday they upload a photo of a different girl.

- Artist Q&A - These are the pocket morning questions H!O translates.

- Voice - you can download alert tones and ringtones of the girls talking. It's basically wake up calls and the girls saying heeey your phone is ringing.

- HappyBirthday - You can hear messages from the girls on their birthday.

- PokeShot - Random photos of the OGs.

From the wota PoV.

The main reason is that these girls are idols, for the wota that means the girls they dream they were dating. Imagine dreaming about dating a girl who is dating someone else....

Personally, as long as it's their private life and it doesn't effect their performances or attitude I don't personally have a problem with it.

but then I'm not the kind of fan that goes to concerts, events and shells out a ton of cash for their favorite idols goods and photos etc.

From the agency PoV.

Boys means relationships, relationships equal headaches and nightmares, who cares about a work contract when they are in love right?

An idol who was dating someone brings in less money than the ones not dating.

From the average Japanese persons PoV.

People "in general" don't have casual relationships in Japan. If you start dating someone on a regular basis people will start asking when you are getting married, when you get married they ask when the kids will be arriving.

So dating means marriage, marriage means kids, kids mean the mother can't/shouldn't/ doesn't want to work.
