I don't get the stuffy sound from Miki so much. I get it a lot from Akane, though. Sayumi never lost that stuffy timbre in her singing voice, and Haga sounds more like Sayumi than any other member of MM to me. Kanon-level of singing is likely aiming way too high for her, as Zukki is one of the best singers in the group right now. Seriously, if Haga can attain Konno or even Ishikawa level, she can still be useful, but H!P girls don't generally improve a whole lot after debuting. There are exceptions -- Risa chief among them -- but most girls improve a little bit then plateau for the bulk of their careers. At 13, she does have time on her side, though.

Although Miki was the best here, and ahe does have some skill that makes her more bearable than the others, the tone of her voice is very painful. My thoughts, anyway.

I'm surprised because Oharu didn't sound this bad in her duet with Maachan on the TRIANGLE OST but dang does she sound like she needs a lot of work.

Miki sounds the best of the four which is great and while her voice does make me think of Riho's for some reason, with more training she could be a great voice.

Akanechin could sound great if they focused her on taking a lower range because she cannot deal with those higher notes, but ask her for low notes and she has this really cool glow to it (little like Sakura)...I'm not really getting any Sayu vibes from her though >.>

Maria...for someone that's been in the KSS for a while, she doesn't seem to have gotten better...of the 4, she's the loudest but she's also really pitchy and off-tone which bothers me to an extent...

They aren't the best, but it's still less than a year, I don't think 9th/10th gen sounded that great in their first years

The vein popping out of Maria's neck honestly terrified me... having been that horrid, technique-wise, watching all of them is painful for me. I think Miki and Akane are the two good ones right now (Akane in more of a low range, though I get what JPope is saying by "stuffy" sort of timbre), but Miki is a bit shrieky on some parts.

Oharu HAS massively improved if you compare her singing to what that beyond horrendously off-key squawking we saw in the audition footage was like, but of course, despite that improvement, she has graduated from being ridiculousy bad to just bad. If she keeps it up, she could be decent.

Maria is very, very shouty and strains a ton, but I think if she could learn to chill out and sing instead of shout, she'd be decent.

If they all really want to improve, they will. Just look at Uemura Akari. She was the weakest singer in J=J next to Yuka, and while she's still not quite KarinSayukiTomoko level, she's far, far, far better than she was at first.

Akane has mentioned wanting to improve and wanting to acquire vibrato, so I feel like she'll definitely put work into it. Miki has a musical background and seems to enjoy it, so she might as well. The other two... I don't know.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the future.

Ugh... Maria's neck straining. I've seen Miki do it too, and that's probably why she lost her voice during their first tour.
They need to fix that quickly or they will cause some real damage to those vocal cords with the amount of singing they do. The longer they do it for, the harder it will be to stop.

Kanon's finally gotten to a point where I don't hate her voice anymore, and Eripon can manage to stay on key lately, so there is hope for them yet.

Ozeki Mai's been out of commission due to throat issues so I hope they stop and realize they might need to do something about that or they are going to have more girls straining themselves. This the song around the girl, not the girl around the song. With so much new blood in the music department, it's going to be a challenge. When it was just Tsunku, he knew their limitations because he worked with them more closely, when you have someone new doing the songs, it's not always the case.

This video was cute, but in practical terms it lacked a few crucial steps and information to dealing with Tenso. So it should be considered more of fan service or eye-candy than an actual guide. Damn, you made me realize I basically witnessed aiko's whole career out of the corner of my eye. I was still pretty fresh to J-pop when "ashita" became the hottest shit ever. I still can't get over the AWOO~ she pulls out in it. Never been a fan of her, but she's always been on all the top 10 artist lists, Music Station SuperLive, Kouhaku as long as I can remember...

aiko was the very first Jpop artists I got into, and my first Jpop purchase. I ran an aiko fan-site. Around the time of her fourth album her stuff started to sound formulaic to me, and other artists had taken my interest -- mostly MM, Shiina Ringo and Go!Go!7188 -- that I just stopped following her. I'm still kind of in awe at how long she has managed to sustained her popularity, though.

Filed under, the things you find on the internet.

You ever want to know all there is to know about teeth? And by teeth, I'm talking about an idol's teeth,(Or celebrity in general) because there's a website for that.

I went ahead and poked through to see if I could find anyone relevant that I knew. I did.

Morning Musume , C-ute, Berryz, S/mileage, Trainee Reina (This is old because she's since had her teeth fixed) / Juice=Juice Akari/ Mano Erina

For me it wasn't the tone or anything of Miki's voice that hurt me, it was the fact that she was very clearly straining her voice. Its the same thing that happens with Riho a lot. I can just hear her damaging her throat and it hurts me.

That strain in Maria's voice is really painful, and seeing her overly strained neck is no less painful. If she continues down that path, she might cause some serious damage to her vocal cords. On the other hand, hearing (and seeing...) these girls strain a lot is hardly a new thing. It is just such a shame they are not taught to sing properly, there are girls who have potential to be good, but instead of singing correctly, they shout/shriek and strain so much they lose their voices.

I sometimes see booklet scans included with single/album torrents, but are there any good places for finding them gathered on their own? A quick Google search gives me this jplop thread which has a ton of Morning Musume's up through about 40 singles, but it doesn't seem that would be all. I'm interested both in seeing them and wondering if there are any gaps I could help fill from my collection, without wasting time repeating work already done.

Tangentially H!P. Somebody left a message on the wiki that Nakanishi Kana's sister Marina (now going by Rina) joined the group Camouflage which I don't really know anything about. She also seems to have ditched her old Twitter account (with the great handle of @fishisfriend) in favor of the Camouflage-based @rinanakanishicf. Before this she's been part of an idol cafe and an H!P dance cover group in a UNIDOL competition, though presumably due to Camouflage she didn't stay in that group through the whole competition.

Kobushi performed Ai no Dangan (1st song) and Kacchoi Uta (around 13min, last song) at Tokyo Idol Festival this year.

They did it quite well, even if Sakurako and Rena sounds a bit weak, compared to the others, in my opinion. They're enjoyable performers to me :).

Sooooo if you'd like to see the emotion Maa-chan had behind Memory Seishun, check out this vid from Nico Nico. During this tour, Maa-chan's throat was in bad condition (from being sick), and it affected how she sang. Not only did she think "Is it okay for me to do Memory?" she also was frustrated she couldn't sing properly/to her full potential. This medley put a lot of stress on her :(

You also get to see how she's all over Duu and feeling jealous of her lately, lol... She even went so far as to calling them twins and saying no one can have her since she's her twin. She made it a ban ^-^ Duu commented on their relationship-- "When I think about MaaDuu and who's going to graduate first, I can't even imagine it. It's too early to think about. But I get the feeling we'd graduate together."

What's interesting as well is that it seems.she was singing the lower part of the harmony (first few lines) up until the Budokan performance?? I swear it's her singing high in the beginning at Budokan.

I just had a thought that a MaaDuu duo would work so much better in terms of appeal and dynamics as a sub-unit or even a solo unit than TsujiKago did.

H!P confession [tinytext]lol[/tinytext]: I never really cared too much about TsujiKago. :pirate:

Ah, from this video right? She is really thin, but she's always been thin I think so it's probably just her natural size + increased activity after joining Momusu made her lose a little more weight. (Hopefully)

That's what I would assume, but apparently even the Japanese fans are getting worried. But I know that I myself had a period in high school where I was eating plenty but just because of all my extra curriculars and metabolism at the time I was super skinny and the school nurse thought I had an eating disorder so I am giving her the benefit of the doubt at this point.
