But, I think roots are a lot more acceptable in Japan - I see a lot of dark roots in photoshoots. Unlike whites who bleach their hair, asians are not trying to trick people into thinking its natural <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' />

Must be a regional thing. Around here whenever I see a girl or a woman with bleached hair it looks exactly like in the BoA pictures above. When I try to think of it, hair bleached all the way to the skin level would look weird to me. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' />

I like it that way. Gives it a multi-layered look with the dark below the light. Masae used it a lot with her various multicolored styles.

So those pictures are before she dyed it. Sayu is talking about how all of the 9th gen is getting in their last photo opportunity with blonde Ai.

As much as I love Takahashi's artistic images on her blog it's hard to get an idea of her exact coloring. Sayumi's pictures give a much more clear idea of what Takahashi's hair looks like. And I like it a lot.

Same here. I'm thinking roots showing is a choice particular to bleached hair too since it's such a stark contrast to what the hair usually looks like. And nothing is more jarring to me than someone's face being darker than their hair, so the roots make it a little less blaring, I guess.

When has a new girls hair ever been fluffy when joining Morning Musume? I think they make it super flat intentionally for all new members. (Even Miki had flat hair when she first was announced as a member.)

...Is that bad? I think they always flat iron because flat > frizzy/poofy/ugly. The "big hair" look has only recently become a "thing" again but its not really mainstream (mostly a gal look I think). Just in general, there's something about the water and hair care products in Japan that make hair thinner and flatter like that. The entire time I was there I'd get shampoo/conditioner sent to me because of it.
