I don't care that Riho is going to possibly turn MM into a loli-centric group, but her singing voice is really obnoxious and she's boring. As far as I'm concerned, she's just as dull as Mizuki is. I'd rather listen to Reina whine into the mic for the entire song.

But about half of the group is still my age or older (Haruna is the first member to be close to my age), though, so that's not really an issue for me.

Riho boring? Nigga please. That girl is a mini Miki just full of adorable evil.

But the group is definitely going to need severe restructuring. It'll be at least 6 months to a year before they probably figure out what to even do with it and all the new tykes. I definitely see more focus going to S/mileage in the meantime.

I think I'm gonna wait till the winter 2012 concert (not that far off--my, time flies when you're not having fun) to see how the new Gens play out. I imagine the Fall 2011 concert will just be a warm-up. (I'm sure I'll get it anyway, though.) I just hope that Tsunku & co. understand that the new MM needs to put on one really fine show at the winter concert for this group to gain any traction with fans. The winter concert will also probably be my first glimpse of the new S/mileage.

There's a part of me that wishes they'd get rid of the remaining older girls, just to make a fresh start and clean break with the past. But then there's a part of me that wants to see Sayumi making mischief with the younger ones. And a part of me that doesn't want to let go of Risa and Reina. I'm torn. And I suspect I will be for some time.

I hate the direction Morning Musume is going, so instead of simply saying so, I'm gonna project my feelings onto the world and assume that means Morning Musume is doomed.

Emel should make his own idol group.

I wonder what it'd look like.

I think the issue is that once you start getting older, it feels weird to idolize these girls who are so much younger than you.

It just feels weird having them all be so young, but I can deal with it, it just depends on what direction they go musically.

This is what she was saying.

Because she is thinking now that it's weird for her, doesn't mean she liked it back then (only) because it was the same as her.

That's a wrong converse argument.

LOL Riho is going to be center girl? Great, just what we need, loli. As if being an MM fan wasn't hard enough already...

I don't think MM can ever return to the way it used to be. Now that Ai is gone from the group the only chance of good vocals comes from Risa, and we all know she'll get the shaft. The only hope for MM really is to hope they can hold on for a few years so that they're older. I can't fangirl 12 year olds anymore, it's weird. The ages of the girls used to not bother me when I was 15, but now that I'm 25 it seems just a bit off that I have to cheer for kids in a group where most of them used to be older than me. (Just my own opinion, of course.)

[/quote]

It probably won't return in your eyes, but I'd bet that there are some newer fans who are 15 and think they all sound like angels, and will never believe otherwise. Heck, we were probably the generation of fans who were seen this way by the people who have been fans of MM since the start. It's a cycle, but it also spirals downward.

MM makes (still) young people take a good look at their own mortality, that's why it's weird to follow them as you go from teen to twenties. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /ph34r.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm not really sure what you're getting at. I wasn't responding based on my tastes. I was responding based on what I beleive valid topics for Morning Musume being doomed.

Acceptable reasons for wondering include:

"Morning Musume used to sell-out large arenas, but now only play in halls. Is this a large problem?"

"I noticed that CD sales seem to be slipping. Is this a something we should worry about or is there a larger context in the music industry?"

"I read on Sanspo that they hired a monkey to direct Morning Musume's newest PV. They paid him 10 bananas. Does this mean they're running out of money?"

Things that don't mean MM is doomed:

"There is an 11 year old in Morning Musume."

It was more or less just a joke, since you have students around you and potentially could make an idol group composed of them. You could be your school's Tsunku !

It isn't really an issue for me, either, because a good chunk of the group is still older than me, and I don't think the age gap between me and the ones younger than me is big enough for it to make me feel uncomfortable. 9th and 10th gen are the first generations to have members younger than me.

For me, it's more of a journey to enjoy the members from when they auditioned to when they graduate.

Like a roller coaster maybe, people just need to learn to enjoy the bit in the middle.

In this analogy age would be the color of the roller coaster, the color doesn't matter as the ride is just the same, they audition, they are a member, then they graduate.

I know this is an old comment but I wanted to say....

I don't idolize the girls. Idol music is my secret happy space because it is a wonderland of happy little girls. It reminds me of being young and having no responsibilities. About 10 years ago, I idolized Nacchi (who is my age). When the dynamics of the groups changed, I realized there were other reasons why I still liked them.
